Dream a Little Dream: May 8-12, 2011

I am starting to try to figure out whether we will stay on or off property at Disney after the cruise, which depends on whether or not we rent a car after the cruise and the cost of everything.
So far I am seeing that Sam's Club may no longer be offering car rental discount codes, but Costco is. It seems their best offer is 30% off of Budget which would get us a Taurus for one day renting at MCO returning at Port Canveral for $49. That will get us on the boat.

Check Hotwire.com they have great deals. We are renting a car for the full trip and it is only 230.00 dollars for all 9 days.

Well today we found out my husbands uncle has passed away. My uncle has been given days to live as well. I can not wait right now for this trip we really need it in this house. Thanks ahead of time for all your thoughts. :sad1:

I just booked on Hotwire for our car. It was actually cheaper for me to rent the car for the whole week and pay for parking at the port versus using Disney transport to the ship and then renting the car for the remaining days at WDW. Here's the breakdown:

Car for the week: $162.46
Port Parking: $ 60.00
Total: $222.46

Disney Transport to port: $70.00
4 day Car Rental (port to MCO): $182.53
Total: $252.53

I've used Hotwire in the past, and it's always a huge money saver. Our rental ended up being Hertz, which we've rented from before. They are in the airport terminal...no shuttle needed.

So, now I'm actually saving $30 and I'll be saving time too, as I don't have to wait to use the Disney Transport going to the port, or wait to get a shuttle to get the rental when I get off the ship!

A savings is always great...we did the samething.

i have a driver reserved to pick us up at the hotel to drive to hotel at port (we are going a day early) and from port to airport. it is $ 150round trip includes tax and tolls. just have to include tip. he will also make a quick stop on the way for wine or whatever.
im not renting a car because believe it or not, i want to try the disney magic bus from the airport! i want to see what it is like to not deal with our baggage. We are taking the free hotel shuttle to port...unless anyone knows of a one way car rental to drop off near port. hope this helps.

sorry for your loss:sad1:

Don't worry it will all work out in the long run. And you will have a great trip. Just take one thing at a time.

what do they mean "equip" the thing? is it a dw stroller or one from a rental company? check out private companies if you haven't.:flower3:

DD11 lives with special needs and she is now too big for a kiddie stroller. To buy a "special need stroller" is over $500 at very best. She never uses it at home. She is mobile enough for everyday life, but since she also lives with Mild Autism, she also needs some kind of a break, or a bubble to prevent melt downs in a crowd. She also cannot stand for long time and even though it's supposed to be "regular" time at WDW, she could not stand (litterally) in lines for a long time. So, airport + 9 days at WDW + Universal and Sea World post cruise, and back to airport "waiting time", would be way too much for her... and for me. (I'm the one who takes her on my hip or piggy back when she is too tired to continue.)

I rented the special needs stroller by phone last week at the only available store in town. Friday, I went to see what they were suggesting. Really, it looks like a very light wheelchair, and not like an umbrella stroller, as the lady described it on the phone. So, there is no basket underneath, nor is it any "pockets" or "cup holders" or anything an umbrella stroller usually has. So, she said I had to "equip" the stroller if I wanted to, even thought she thought that it couldn't be done "because nobody did it before me".

It would be nice to rent from Orlando, but she would have to "float" at the airport and my intuition tells me it's not a good way to start 18 days of holidays when it's gonna be the first time away from home, from dad, from regular life to the crazyness of Buffalo and Orlando airport when someone can be scanned or touched in front of her, etc., etc., The stroller will be her bubble from home. (I was lucky enough to have DISigners to DISign cute little things to decorate the "special needs wheelchair".

Hope it clarifies my dilemma.

clochettenordique, that stroller rental lady got me when she said "never "!!!
she doesnt understand that is a word NOT used by those of us who are familiar with "special" difficulties. As you have noticed, I am a person who has to try to help out, so i hope you dont think i am intruding, im trying to offer any help i can. Sometimes two heads are better than one. First, im sure you are familiar with the pass persons with disabilities can get at guest services upon entering park. It will help with some of the waiting times. There is a list of rides or shows where even with the pass, there will be wait times, but the pass will be a huge help. I was online and i think i saw the stroller you are talking about. There is a thing made for under the stroller to hold items and im sure you dont want to purchase it. Maybe you can get them to purchase it and pay extra to rent it...They can rent it out later; dont you think others would love to pay extra for that convenience. If not, would a large tote bag hung over the back help with holding things? And maybe you can duct tape a cup holder onto it somewhere. Also, there is a DISabilities thread on here, maybe someone there has run into this problem and they can give suggestions on how they solved it. Hope it helped.:flower3:

I have an idea for you too...what about the Mommy hook...they sell them at target and they are made to carry lots of bags..they can hook right not a wheel chair or stroller and are only 5.99. Might help you keep your hands free. Also they make cup holder that you buy for strollers that can hook on the armrest of the wheelchair or stroller. I had one you can pick them up at a baby store like Babies R us. I wish you the best of luck and you should get that pass from WDW there are very few rides that you will have a wait then. Most will be right on and off. They will work with you. You can even call ahead of time and see what they offer. Too if you want to rent in FL you can call the airport and they will have a chair for here there too. Airports do work with you. They even meet you at the gate when you dboard. the full treatment. Also tell the gate when you get to the airport they will let you board early before anyone else they are great with working with you. Just once you get your boarding pass and walk down to your gate check in there and they will give you a special pass to baord early. Hope that helps you out.

Ok so yesterday I posted that my husbands uncle passed away which was a shock...but this has been one bad weekend. I got a phone call today just before 6am you know those are never good.:sad1: I was told by my mom who was very upset that my uncle Terry who is honored Vet..had lost his battle to cancer. My uncle Terry passed away. This has been a very hard day for my family and my kids.

We had to go buy clothes for the kids to wear to the service of both uncles.
I told my boys to hang in there it will get better. They both asked when do we go to Disney. I said soon. They both said good because we need this too. I laughed and agreed. I think they heard their mom say that a time or 2.
We are so ready for this trip right now...If I could pack and go today I would.

meghan, when it rains, it pours!!! so sorry you and your family are going through this tough time. my heart is with you.:flower3:
