Dream - 6/20/12 - 4 nt - Great Start to the Summer of 2012!!! FE #217 DIS Meet #216

The deck does get s VERY hot  while waiting to ride Aquaduck. We were on the Dream in March 2011 so I can only imagine it will get even hotter in June. We wore flips flops and the cast members just have you sit on your shoes while you're riding, no need to store them anywhere.

As for breakfast, we ate at Cabanas or just skipped it. We enjoyed the selection of items at Cabanas which was a huge benefit having 2 picky, young eaters. We could always find something for the kids to eat. Ummmm, Krispy Kreme donuts!!:worship:

Good to know on the shoes! I think I remember reading one time there is a place to put them in the back? Not sure if that is true or not? :confused3 I'm just glad we don't have to stand in line, with the ground on fire, w/out shoes!! :)

Thanks for the info on Cabanas - having DS who is 8 1/2, he will likely prefer Cabanas as well since he can see all the bacon he wants :) lol

Can't wait!! :cool1:

Heather

My DD was on the 1/3/12 Dream and she said there are cubbies to hold shoes before going on the Aquaduck.

Jan

Another thing I noticed is the new Disney Pixar movie "Brave" comes out June 22nd (while we are on the cruise) - is it possible we would have a Premier (or premear?) at Sea on that day? :woohoo:

Heather, we were on a November 2010 cruise when a movie was shown at midnight on the official opening day. We still have special DCL buttons received on the Wonder in 2003 when we saw Nemo.

I seldom go to the movie theater on board as I seldom go to a movie theater at home. Last movie I saw on board was Cars and the gentle rocking of the ship put me to sleep!

So things on my end have changed a bit here for our Summer plans. We are still sailing with all of you but there has been a a little bit of a Disney madness going on with my wonderful husband. So we are flying in earlier but into NYC and joining the Canada cruise! :cool1::cool1::cool1: I am so excited! But now I am all freaked out about NYC. Neither one of us has ever been but it is on our Bucket List. I am a tried and true California girl. And DH isn't a whole lot more traveled. The biggest worry is transportation. We are not staying at a Disney Hotel as we saw the rates and :scared1::scared1:. Also with DS, who knows how he will be as he will be totally out of his comfort zone, too. And we are only giving ourselves about 24 hours to see a few sights, so we have to narrow our list of "must do's" way down.

We did get into the Dessert Party, Thank you, Heather for your efforts. I just kept going to the site and checking. I actually had forgotten to check for about 3-4 days then it popped up the other night. Unfortunately we had to cancel our Ohana reservation. But I'm going to keep trying with that, too. Weird about Photobucket. If you have a link to the folder that would be nice but if you are not comfortable with that I will wait until June. :3dglasses

I love the idea about the movie premier, I will have to see if that is something DS will want to see. He has become quite the movie addict. :happytv:
OK so I'm off to try and make a calendar so I can keep this all straight. Much to say, don't hate me, hate my crazy DH. He has it stuck in his head he wants to be a Gold Castaway Club Member before 2013. pirate::love: Can't fight him as he has busted his butt off to get this bonus that is paying for our trips. :worship:

Sue

Hi, I hope I'm not too late for this...
I am very new to disboards, but not to Disney.
My family and I go at least every 2-3 years to WDW and I am the biggest Disney nut in my family. (they think I'm OCD-Over Compulsive Disney!)

I am taking my very first cruise (EVER) on the Disney Dream leaving on the 20th of June. Do I have the right posting?

There are actually 12 of us going (sort of combined family trip).

I really don't know where to start in meeting other people or even the fish extenders.
I have made FE's for other people going on other Disney cruises, but since this is my first, I wasn't even sure where to do.

My part of the trip begins one week earlier in WDW (POR) then 2 days at Universal with the rest of the group. We all finish the trip with the cruise!

We are beyond excited and have moved into hyper and are still 69 days out before we leave! The day we board (6/20) is also my niece's 16th birthday-which the cruise was her request instead of a party. Smart girl! :yay:

We can't even schedule anything on the cruise till 4/6-I'm hoping things are still available! :scared:

Any help anyone could give us would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome sewsweet and family!!!

I will add you to post #1 which lists all DISers/families.

Fish extender sign up - deadline is May 1. If you and your family decide to participate, I'll need stateroom #, # in each stateroom, for kids, need to know age and gender.

I'm going on DCL cruise #17 and I'm so excited, too! Sailing on the Dream is a first for us. Just love DCL. I can almost guarantee that you'll be hooked on DCL before the cruise is over. My daughter is positive there's "something in the drinking water" - ha-ha.

Nickyda on our thread has cruised on the Dream before and I'm sure she can answer a lot of Dream questions.

If you can't get Palo/Remy reservations pre-cruise, don't give up. Time slots are also available upon boarding. There will be a designated area/time to do that - on the Magic and Wonder, it's usually 1pm at Rockin Bar D/Wavebands. If all time slots are booked, ask to be put on the waitlist.

We are staying 4 days pre-cruise at Caribbean Beach and 4 days post-cruise in Port St. Lucie. We're celebrating my DH's retirement. He's into day 4 of retirement and likes it so far!

All I know is that 4 days of cruising is not enough for me! But, we are cruising on the Magic the Saturday after Thanksgiving this year. My DD, her DH and our two DGDs twisted our arms. :cool1:

And, since we have DVC points to use up by February 2013, we plan to go on the Magic again that month. I won't book this cruise until after we get off the Dream to take advantage of the 10% discount on points.

Also booked on the May 2013 Panama Canal cruise but will move it out to the fall Panama Canal cruise when booking opens.

We are heading to northern Michigan for the weekend. Next weekend, we'll be in Morgantown, West Virginia to celebrate my DGD's 7th birthday.

Thank you so much for responding!

WOW #17!:worship:

I was telling my mom about everything that I found on this site, and she and I were overwhelmed...in a good way! :dance3:

I would like to participate in the FE exchange. I have to ask the rest of my group if they also want to as well. I tried to PM you, but I have to have 10 postings before I can send one. I hope to do that in the next few days so I can get the information to you.

Should I just post here who all is in the group? (not specifics)

I can say that we have 4 cabins and all but one are 9A guaranteed, so I don't even have a cabin # yet which is a little stressful for me because I have no idea what we are getting, yet. :scared:

Thanks again and you will be hearing for me! :thanks:
Stephanie

Welcome Stephanie! :cool1:
If you want to post a couple of things to get to the 10, then go for it! Maybe a general run down of everyone in your group? :wizard:

I am still making my mind up about the FE. Money and room in my luggage are my two concerns. I know it can be as simple as I want to make it but I tend to be like a snowball with stuff like this. Oh this would be cute and off I go to Michael's. Then I get there and one thing leads to another and I've gone a little overboard. :confused3 Then I have to worry about getting them into the luggage especially since I over pack anyway. :hippie:
So is everyone excited!!!:dance3:pirate::cheer2::dance3:

We are at the AKV pre-cruise for 6 nights, I should be completely exhausted and ready for a relaxing cruise by then. I am trying to get my last ADR in @ Ohana but it isn't quite working out. I had to bump it out as we had one on the same night we wanted to do the Fireworks Dessert. Now I am bummed as DH tells me he was really looking forward to Ohana. :sad2: Planning and keeping everyone happy can be so frustrating at times. :headache: I' keep working on it though.

I hope all is well in everyone's corner of the world!

Thanks! Oh boy - midnight? :) Fun but gosh, I hope to sleep on the cruise! When I read this to my DH, he said, "ooh I love midnight on a cruise ship"...um okay but don't make me have to "schedule time to sleep"! :rotfl2:

WOW Sue - awesome!!! After I join Jan's family, I might join yours next :) SOunds great and I'm excited you got into the dessert party. I haven't forgotten about the pictures. I can email them to you? If you'll PM your email, I'll be happy to send them to you. It's just two or three I believe?

Welcome!!! We have a nice group here and I can't believe we are all getting so close!!! Your plans sound awesome - heck I might join your family too! We are doing Kennedy Space Center before the cruise and then one night after the cruise at POFQ and Downtown Disney before heading home. It was SO hard not to do Disney this trip but we wanted to save the $$ and put towards next year when most of the expansion is open and/or add to a cruise combo.

SO tonight is the night for me (and some others?) to do any excursions and check in. I'm the most excited and anxious about the check in as I want the earliest possible. Wish me luck guys!! I hope it's worth staying up until 3 am :surfweb:

WOOHOO

Stephanie and anyone else who wants to contact me about the FEs,

Get in touch with me by email - grananajan@gmail.com.

No problem with you not having staterooms assigned. Those are usually assigned by the time you get your luggage tags - about 3-4 weeks precruise.

For all FE participants, if your stateroom changes after we board the Dream, just call me on my cell the first day at 517-290-1277 or call my stateroom - 5515.

Ok, fellow cruisers, I've been thinking ... and when I say that to my friends and family, they all roll their eyes :rolleyes1 and say "now what".....

I am wondering if anyone would like to have a DIS meet on the day we board. Usual time for a DIS meet is 3pm. The bars, pools, etc. close down by 3:30 or 3:40 for the mandatory 4pm life boat drill. So, if anyone would like to get together for a few minutes and get to put names with faces, let me know. I have read several trip reports about good locations to meet on the Dream. On the Magic and Wonder, my favorite meet location is the Promenade Lounge.

Yes, I think it would be nice :) I like the idea of meeting inside somewhere so it's not as hot, you can hopefully hear better and we wouldn't have to worry about the "weather" if it turned bad. Keep me posted!

Thanks Jan ;)

Yes! 3PM but where? Plus it has to be easy to find and not crowded with other things going on as the Prom Lounge is on the Wonder/Magic.
Count us in!
Heather, I will PM you in the AM. I'm trying to climb into bed and realized my computer was still on. :rolleyes1
See you in the AM!:surfweb:

WOOHOO!!! Got port arrival time 11:00 - 11:30am!! :cool1:

I'm thinking that we might change up our rental drop off strategy. I've read a few threads lately where people were dropping off car rentals (ours will be Budget) on departure morning and due to the influx of the passengers getting off the ship, and only one person working there, some have waited a very long time. :scared1:

My DH was going to drop us off with the luggage at the port, right before 11 and then head to drop off the car and take their free shuttle back to meet us. I was thinking it might be a better idea ? to have him drop it off in the morning and catch the free shuttle back to the hotel and we all three take the shuttle from the hotel to the port? I have to hope we'll get an early shuttle from the hotel (you have to sign up), if not just take a taxi?

Any thoughts from you all that have done this before?

Heather

I'm up for that too! With this being both my first cruise AND my first Disboard event, I'm up for almost anything. :lmao:

I just got 11:00-11:30 too! Being a GTY, I thought getting there early would be the best. I could be wrong.:upsidedow

I'm SO excited now! Port Adventures gotten! :cheer2:

Plus this makes my 10th post..so now I can sign up for FE! :woohoo:

I almost forgot.

Thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome. :flower3:

About 4 years ago we did this and had Avis. It took DH about 45 minutes to catch up with us at the port. But this was before the time slot way of boarding. We still haven't decided how we will do the transportation. We want to get there a little early so see if an upgrade can be had. :cloud9:

Is it my imagination or does every one have an 11-11:30 check in time? :confused3

6 years ago on the Wonder we took pillow cases for each Grandchild in a Ziplock bag, along with their name and room numbers to the desk and they had all the charcaters sign it and they put it in the kids room on their pillows the last night of the cruise.

It was a great souvenir that didn't cost much. Just a Pillow case, Sharpie Marker & Zip- lock bag. Hope they still do this as I'm all set!:flower3:

Jan should be along shortly and get you squared away with FE sign up.

So what excursions/activities did you get a chance to sign up for?:yay:

I'm with you Sue; is a bit odd we all got 11-1130 check-in times. Oh well, guess we're the most eager group:laughing: Last time we did the 11:00 check-in, got Jazzy signed up for the Oceaneers, and were having lunch in Enchanted Garden by 12:05. I hope it goes that quickly this time :thumbsup2
