Drawf mine train - are we setting ourselves up for disappointment?

I never look at rides in Disney as having a thrill, but I do expect a high level of presentation. As long as the presentation is Disney Quality then all will be good.

This. :thumbsup2

Well, with the exception of RnR and ToT - two of my favorite rides ever!

Even though RnRC and ToT (and others such as EE, etc.) are "thrill" rides, it is the amazing theming that makes them into an experience that is way more than the sum of their parts.

Have you ever ridden RnRC without the music? I rode the DLRP version not too long ago and the music was not working on it. Even though it was still a coaster with multiple inversions, the ride seemed a lot slower/tamer and, to be honest, a little boring. The adrenaline-pumping loud music makes a big difference in the experience!

Good point.

Without "Rock 'n' Roll", the "Rock 'n' Roller Coaster" is just the "er Coaster".

;)

I think that a ride can be both thrilling and well presented but I can't see that being the case here. I can't imagine a thrilling ride being placed in Fantasyland but I bet that it will be cute.

I think the mine train will be cool. It won't be a scary thrill ride---that goes upside down, or has a huge drop--its for kids. But the new ride vehicles allow the individual carts within the train to swing from side to side independent of the whole train. I think that itself is a cool concept. Here is a video of the cart design (ride vehicle) http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTyOITQmpsg From the construction video on youtube of the seven dwarfs mine train it looks like the queue will be like the inside part of splash and the actual ride part will be like BTMR. Either way, I don't think it will be a disappointment. It will definately be better than stitch!

I am assuming the Dwarf Mine Train coaster is going to be a tamer, shorter, but infinitely better themed version of the old Big Bad Wolf coaster at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. In our Disney fan parlance, a D-ticket. I can be happy with that. I do think DMT will be a crowd pleaser, but if anyone is looking for an answer to HP or anything else UO has been up to lately they should look elsewhere.

For me, and maybe I am alone in this, the entirety of the Fantasyland Expansion is a bit of a joke just because of the ridiculous timeline. The very existence of all the construction walls and cranes looming over MK for so long has created this notion that something earth-shattering or jaw-dropping is coming. I just don't think that's the case. For whatever reason Disney has chosen to draw this thing out to absurd lengths. I just hope they haven't inadvertently bought themselves an unexpected PR nightmare.

I think kids will love it. Which I think is Disney's point.

It looks quite short though, didn't they shorten the length of the ride down at some point?

both my wife and I were disappointed by Harry Potter actually, so it's all about opinion.

I'm sure it will be way better than Harry Potter. I can't stand that ride, it made me so violently ill.

Don't forget that the Mine Train is an addition to the original plan for FLE. I think that real estate was going to be just more princess or pixie M&Gs. Now we're getting a new ride there instead. I'd say that's a positive. I'm not expecting the new attraction to be big on thrills, but I think it will be very entertaining.

i agree with this post!

I'm not expecting anything too thrilling in a thrill ride sense, just a cute kiddie coaster, so anything above that will be a plus. I *am* expecting great theming, and the same level of effort that Disney puts into its other attractions, and I don't think I'll be disappointed there. :)

I like the fact that Disney is a theme park and the majority of the rides are made for the entire family. I currently have no interest I universal as I'm not paying loads of money to spend the day in Seuss land. Disney gives us 4 parks that we can all enjoy. Now that said, once my youngest is tall enough and ready to enjoy the thrill rides we will probably visit Universal but I don't think disney and universal are comparable to who their target audience are.

I'm excited for it, but don't think it is going to be the end all/be all. It isn't going to compete with HP, that's for sure.

However, to go slightly OT, I do think that in the relatively near future, we are going to see Star Wars Land at DHS. I love Harry Potter as much as the next girl, but a SW Land? I mean, come on. That is going to be awesome for generations to come. So, I'm holding out hope that the next big investment will be something along those lines to really compete with HP. I don't think the new Fantasyland was ever designed to go after that same crowd, but more to bolster the whole Princess thing that is so lucrative on the marketing side. Bring Star Wars Land to DHS just makes so much more sense than Avatar-land or whatever at AK. The merchandising alone...

I have not seen Avatar, although I think I get the general concept and it seemed to be popular. I welcome anything exciting and new at WDW, if it is carefully planned and themed well (not rushed just for the sake of building something new.) I think Avatarland , at night, at AK would be worth it.

I don't like Avatar at all and don't think it will be a movie series that will stand the test of time like Star Wars or Indiana Jones (or Harry Potter for that matter) but I DO think that it's could provide a deep source for some excellent rides and elaborate theming. It could very likely become a case where people forget all about the movies and think of Avatar as being just a Disney World thing. Like Song of the South or something (which I know is a weird case because plenty of people know about it have never seen it, but just bear with me, I'm making a point :thumbsup2)

Doesn't look like a kids' coaster. Barnstormer is a kids' coaster. This one looks closer to Big Thunder Mountain which is a fun ride but not ultra thrills. Anyone expecting something Harry Potter's Forbidden Journey-like will probably be disappointed in this one. If it's closer to Barnstormer than BTMR then there will be more disappointment. I'll be waiting to see if it has a height requirement. If it has no height requirement then it'll pretty much just be nice ride, hopefully with something cool to look at. I'm thinking kids will be able to ride the mine train, but not babies or really little kids.

Not only can young kids not ride Forbidden Journey, but if you get any kind of motion sickness at all it's probably not the best experience. Not sure Disney wants to go with something like that, but they could sure use the technology at some point. Disney did get bashed in some places for building Mission:Space which also has motion sickness issues.

I saw a presentation out at D23 in 2011, John Lassiter did a presentation. I don't think it looked like strictly a "kiddie ride". The car swings side to side as it goes down the track, it looked closer to BTMRR speed than Barnstormer. I would expect a height restriction.
