Dr. Brown's Bottles???

I'm going to be a new mom very soon and I've been looking at bottles to put on my baby registry. Does anyone use the Dr. Brown's bottles? Most of the complaints I've seen on websites have been about all of the parts to clean on those bottles. Are these bottles good or are there better ones to choose?

I tried Dr. Brown with my oldest, and he didn't like the nipple shape. Switched to Avent, and *I* hated them (leaky, leaky, leaky), but he loved them. Starting using the Avent with my second boy, and he hated those (yay!). I bought Soothies (Playtex, maybe....), and we were both delighted - no leaks, no gas, happy baby, happy mommy.

I used Dr. Brown's with my third. He had colic an dthese were by far the best bottles for him. I also nursed him and he had no problems with switching between me and the bottle's nipple. I just threw all the parts in the dishwasher so it never bothered me to clean them.
I used avent with my second and they did leak alot. I wasn't impressed with them.
I used playtex bags with my first and I really liked them. I'm not sure they even make those anymore

When my DD was born 4 years ago, we invested in a whole supply of Avent bottles, all different sizes and varieties. We quickly found that DD did not do well with these bottles. Also tried Dr. Browns, but in the end, we found that the plain old Gerber bottles worked best for her and for us. Every baby is different. My advice would be to try a few of each, see which ones work best for you and your baby and when you decide which you like best, send DH or someone else to the store for more.

I loved these bottles - I used them w/ my daughter who had horrible reflux.
I had no trouble cleaning the inserts at all - she took the nipples without a problem & it did help with her reflux.
Plus, if you have a dishwasher they are super easy to clean in there.

I loved the avent bottles.They do leak, IF you don't dry the pieces before putting them back together, or the nipple isn't snapped in all the way.Once I figured out that I was getting leaks because the pieces were not dry, I had no more leaks.My daughter had colic and reflux, and these were the only bottles that worked( I tried them all)

We used Dr Browns for the majority of DS's early months, however we dropped them as they are not BPA free and we feel it BPA is a concern. Currently, we are using Playtex drop ins and quite simply, WE LOVE THEM!!! Don't get me wrong, now that Dr Browns has glass and is coming out (if they haven't already) with a BPA free bottle, I would strongly consider them for a potential baby #2. The parts, as said before, are easily washed in the dishwasher. However, the playtex drop ins are so easy to clean, BPA free and great for DS's acid reflux and horrible spitting up.

Just an aside...but I used to work for Dr. Brown. yes - he's a real family practice doc and I was his summer file clerk. =)

I used Dr. Browns with DD who is now 4.

She had colic and they helped alot. There are a couple extra parts, but it all goes in the dishwasher so don't see the big deal.

The going wisdom around the higher order multiple world-where colic and reflux are extremely common-is to get a small selection of different types of bottles to see what works best for your baby.

We used regular cheapo bottles at first, then my mother insisted on the Dr. Brown's. Keep in mind that I needed 32 bottles to do 24 hours of feedings and making formula ahead was one of the ways I could keep my sanity. So the price seemed exorbatant (sp?) to me. 3 of the 4 had projectile vomiting (believe me I wish I could not type that part, but it was life) with their reflux, even after medicine. The Dr. Brown's had NO EFFECT on the reflux. If you were to ask my mom, she would say differently, but that is a whole other type of thread.

Anyhow, get a few of each type to see what your baby prefers. That way you won't have a slew of bottles that jr. doesn't care for. Good luck!

When I was expecting, my mother told me to buy differnt types of bottle to see which one my son one like. I personally hated Dr Brown's bottles (too many parts to wash and no dishwasher, except me ) and I also tried the Playtex Drop in, Avent and Gerber. My son likes the Playtex so much he doesn't want to give up the bottle now that he's 2, but that's an entirely different thread....

Dr Brown's bottles are supposed to be excellent for babies with colic, which my son had. But he had sucking problems and never could get the hang of the nipple so I went back to the Playtex....and they are alot cheaper.

Be sure to buy BPA free bottles. They are available at BRU. If you have already purchased some bottles that contain BPA, most BRU are allowing exchanges. Avent is the worst kind of bottle with BPA and they don't currently have replacement bottles. Dr. Brown's do have BPA free bottles.

Had to post another opinion....if I were you, I would register for something a bit more basic than the Dr Browns (such as my other highly recommended favorite, the Playtex drop ins ) If those don't work b/c your little one has pretty bad colic or reflux, then invest in the Dr Browns. They are great, but the added pieces and cost really won't be worth it if your little one doesn't "need" it.

I used avent for both of my kids, both were primarily breastfed, which can help you make your decision. If you are nursing mostly you might find one bottle works better, for us it was the avent, most like nursing for the babies. If you are formula feeding, you will want to go for convienence and comfort, I have heard great things abour playtex with the drop ins for cleaning and ease, very baby and mommy friendly. My girlfriend bought the dr. browns and ended up leaving off all the special pieces and used it like a traditional bottle, didn't think it was worth the money.
I would buy a couple of the most popular and try them out once baby comes
