Hi, I`ve read elsewhere on these boards that there is a mini mart close to Downtown Disney.
Can anyone tell me exactly where it is, wanted to get some supplies for the hotel room cause I know the shop in our hotel is expensive.

I've heard that the Hess petrol station has a good shop which you can get essentials from - there is a supermarket at crossroads mall but apparently it's very $$$!

There is an area called Crossroads, just a few minutes past Downtown Disney by car, about 15 minutes if walking. This area has TGI Fridays and several other restaurants as well as a local supermarket, which even sells UK newspapers! To get to Crossroads by car, pass Downtown Disney keeping it on your left, continue straight on into Hotel Plaza Boulevard and you will come to the end of Disney with the 435 road crossing, go straight over and this is Crossroads. TGI Fridays is at the far end past the supermarket.
So many places, Uno, Olive garden, Black Angus at Crossroads, never been to Bahama breeze yet but that’s supposed to be very good

:cool1:

The mini-mart in question would be the Hess petrol station, which stocks a range of basic supermarket goods cheaper than most hotels. For the full range, the Goodings supermarket at Crossroads is the closest, but is also the most expensive (and their fresh produce can be rather poor). A better bet would be the Winn Dixie supermarket a little further up Apopka-Vineland Rd (turn left out of Hotel Blvd, go across the next traffic light and it is in the shopping placa behind the ABC Liquor store on the right).

For the best supermarket in Orlando, though, nothing beats the new Whole Foods store at the junction of Turkey Lake Rd and Sand Lake Rd (no more than 10 mins from DD). It is expensive but well worth it. :thumbsup2

Any idea how much a cab to Winn Dixe would cost from AKL or DTD?

Will the cabbies all know the supermarket I mean?

I can't decide whether to do a grocery run on the first day or to get a garden grocer delivery...

Yeah I`m staying at the AKL too, and as I`m on property I`m not renting a car so need to know this info too.

The Hess station saved our skin last Sept, like an idiot I let our gas run until we were empty, was driving desperatly trying to find somewhere, I was about to ring Greenflag and get them to ship me some gas (joke) when purely by chance we came across Hess. It has a good supermarket also.

Why is the Whole Foods store so good?

hess is like our garage mini marts and us 7-11s.Great for stoking up on essentials ie beer, water, krispie kreem donuts and crisps.
Have don it from pop and it took me 45 min on buses there and back(get off at planet Hollywood),if were at SSR its a 12 min walk.if were staying at the broadwalk area we go to that one outside the boardwalk this one is better stocked.

Cool, thanks - so if we were to ask for the Publix on the 192 would they know where I meant? Am I best to say near Gaylord Palms?

I'm so used to our taxi drivers here not having a clue that I like to be prepared!!

you answered my question- I was about to ask if there was a publix near as a couple of years back when we had a town car they stopped at one and I was v impressed.

Now is there a wallmart near - we wont have a car so it will be a cab ride from SSR? I am worrying about straighteners and am thinking of buying some when we arrive:rolleyes1

Walmart don't have straighteners in or I certainly couldn't find them. I spent the whole holiday with out them :scared1: I had forgot mine and had previously seen them on Walmart website so thought they'd have them in.

Yes, Walmart is reasonably close. We were staying at POR last year (next door to SSR) and it cost us $20 each way in the cab, with extra $5 (each way) for tips because we had to cart the wheelchair as well as shopping with us! Thankfully Bell Services took us all on their buggy from the entrance to our room - we bought waaaaay too much! :rotfl:
