Downtown Disney "Box o Potato Head" question

OK - we just got back from World of Disney store (NYC) and this is a very weird question. My son had his little Potato Head box all filled with the accessories that are solely sold in NY (very cute, little pretzel, pizza slice, Statue of Liberty crown,etc). The CM came over and said "no, you have to buy a potato too". Since when??? Am I wrong that this is not the policy at the Disney in Downtown?

Not a big deal, but we already have 2 potatos, why would I need another? We left the stuff there.

I read something on Mousesavers about how the potato heads are the best souvenirs from disney, and their suggestion was to just fill the box with arms and accessories, and buy an old head from a thrift store or garage sale.

Next time ask the manager.

Last I heard you do not have to buy a potato head.

From Mousesavers: I would suggest buying your Potato body somewhere else like Wal-Mart and saving all the room in the box for the special Disney stuff. Even with a CM helping us, we weren't able to fit in a few of the bigger items.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm going to call there today. It is probably a different ownership than Disney World, who knows. Thank Goodness DS4 wasn't too upset about it - that could've been a disaster!

We were just at the NYC toys r us on Feb 8 and the CM at the potatoe head display told us to fill up the box with as much as we could and we didn't need to get a potato head. I would call the manager and see about getting some kind of perk for the mistake.

Thanks Diane! I will call but really don't anticipate going back for a while. Unless while DH is in the parade today he can run out of line really quick and pick one up! Yeah right!

I had even said to the guy - why would I want another potato if I already have 2 or 3 at home. It didn't make sense but not something I will get too upset about - I'm just glad DS didn't get too upset or we would've ended up with yet another potato!
