Downsizing ADRs

We have been planning for almost a year to take our 10th trip with my DB and his family. All together there are 8 of us.

Well, as of today, my DB and his wife have decided to file for divorce. There is no way this is going to be fixed. I know that showing up with 7 people won't be that big a deal - we would have to be a bigger table anyway. But if my DB decides to cancel all together, there will only be 4 of us. How hard is to downsize our ADR? Should I be prepared not to have any of the ADRs and not to be able to get anything?

One additional question. Currently, we have an ADR for CRT. Now if my DB and his DSs show up, can we get reimbursed for his wife? Or should we call ahead of time and get the money that way? If all of them cancel, how does that work? If anyone can help with any of these questions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Good question! I know we lost a few of our ADR's when I added my Grandpa to our last trip. (We went from 4 to 5 people).

I am curious too, as I am making ADR's for 4, in case my husband can join us for part of our trip.

Sorry to hear about the divorce. Divorce feels like a death in the family sometimes.:sad1:

Have a good trippixiedust:

Honestly, you need to ask your DB if he and his kids are still planning to come. You are leaving for your trip next month and if they are not, you need to be able to get on the phone pronto and see what can be changed/fixed. It's not fair to string you along and then be totally s.c.r.e.w.e.d. in the end.

As for the CRT reservation - if your DB and kids are coming, just call them and tell them that someone is unable to make it and they probably will refund you the money for that meal especially if you explain the situation.

Sorry to hear about DB and his bride. Let us know how it turns out at CRT.

Make sure you call and change the number in your party. I am sure you will be charged for any not there as reserved.

Similiar thing happened to us when we went in 2007. My parents were planning to come and I had all our ADR's booked. Then they found out less than two weeks before our trip that my mom had to have open heart surgery. They had to cancel since it would have been too soon after her surgery to go on the trip.

I thought I would be nice and call ahead and try and reduce the people on our ADR's opening up some more spots for others. BIG mistake... I had to argue with several CM's over canceling my ADR completely and not having any other openings for that same night. I found the best thing to do (other than the ones you will be billed for) is to just tell them when you check in at the podium.

I am sure I am going to get flamed, but when you are going with 3 young kids and have discussed the character dining you will be doing I am not going to disappoint them by trying to be nice. And yes I do understand the dining table top seating booking system, I just don't feel people should be punished trying to be nice.

This year I've learned my lesson... we have some extended family that "might" be coming. I am planning to let them make their own ADR's just in case they decide at the last min. they aren't coming. I don't want to take any unnecessary chances with our anniversary trip. :)

Hope you have a great trip!!

Stephanie

(And we were going from a table for 8 to a table for 6)

Thank you so much for all the replies.

I was very fortunate this morning. My DB definitely decided that my DSIL (or soon ex) is not coming so I was given permission to cancel her. Made my day since I couldn't pretend to like her for a week. But I digress....

I managed to get a very understanding CM on the phone. She explained to me that usually when they book tables for 8 - they put you at a table for 7-8. For this reason, I could modify all but one of my ADRs to be for 7 people and not 8. She told me for the one we couldn't change to just explain it to the folks at the podium. There were no openings for that one. None of the changes required a change in my confirmation # so no cancelling and rescheduling.

I was also fortunate in changing the ADR for CRT. The CM said that normally they do ask that they cancel the ADR if there is availability. Since it was CRT, of course, there was no room at any other time. She was nice enough to call someone else (the guru of the CRT ADRs apparently) and he refunded the amount for my DSIL.

So we are all set at least for the ADRs. Wish me the same luck on the resort reservation!

So glad to hear you got a great CM!!!! :cool1:

Hope you have a wonderful trip!!!

Glad it worked out and good information to know...thanks for posting

I know this won't help you right now but this is why I book completely seperate reservations and then ask to be seated together at the podium.

I'm glad I did this because my IL's just cancelled their trip and I just cancelled ALL of their ADR's. Thank goodness we weren't all on one ADR!
