Downloading photos with a Netbook?

My husband has a new Netbook. I'm thinking it would be way better to bring that on vacation and leave the old laptop (affectionately dubbed the "crap-top" by my 16 year old son......) behind. The netbook is much smaller and easier to carry around.

But I want to be able to download and see my photos as we go. I have an external hard drive I will be putting them on. Is this possible? Or am I stuck with bringing the old "crap-top" complete with missing keys...... because it has photo-editing software......

Loading your netbook with a viewer like BreezeBrowser, IrfanView, VuePrint, etc. will allow easy viewing of images directly from the memory card. We carry a 9" or 10" netbook on our trips partly for this purpose.

Not all viewers will open the thumbnails generated by RAW images but most will. Even Windows has a viewer that works with RAW.

Jpegs, yes. But if you shot RAW you might need software to view them, though you can go very basic with that.

also get a card reader if you dont have one. With some cameras you need the manufacturers software installed on the computer for it to pull the images off. Card reader will avoid this issue.
