Downgrading a ticket from UT

We have 8-day Non Expiring Park Hopper and Waterpack tickets purchased from UT about 2 years ago. We paid about $570 each after tax. They have not been used at all. I think the current gate price of these tickets exceeds $700 each.

We are thinking of getting Annual Passes this year. Can we use the price we paid for the UT ticket toward the price of an annual pass? The problem we are running into is if we use them first and then bridge them, the value of our tickets exceeds the price of an annual pass. The other scenario is not to use them first, in which case the purchase price of our tickets is less than an AP. However, this approach would result in us paying quite a bit to change to APs.

First of all, are we able to make this change? If so, is there any way to do it without paying a large amount out of pocket?

Have you tried requesting some kind of exchange with UT first? You might only get what you paid for them, but if you're going for an AP, you don't need the non-expiring part anymore, and that's a big chunk of the 2015 sticker price.

Use them first.
Then upgrade.

There is actually a CHANCE that the ticket CM at WDW will refund your over-payment on a Disney gift certificate.
(It has been posted more than once about such "pixie dust" for guests.)

Otherwise, at the "worst" (no refund,) you'd just (basically) be getting the AP at no up charge at all.

I agree with Robo that it's better to use the tickets once and then upgrade. There have been posters in the same situation who said the CM won't refund the difference, but gave it to them in a Disney gift card so hopefully you'll get a CM who will do the same.

The current regular adult AP is $675.21 inc tax. Currently the 8 Day MYW PH & WPF&M No Expire is $734.85 inc tax. So if you paid $570 inc tax you'll be over by approx $60. However, if you upgrade without using the tickets you'll have to pay considerably more for the regular AP because Disney only knows what UCT paid for the tickets, not what you paid.

On the other hand the Premium AP which includes water parks and Disney Quest is $803.01 inc tax which is more than the current value of the tickets you have.

Edited: Thanks, Chartle, I forgot Disney would credit only the UCT wholesale price.

The issue here is that the amount you would get is what UT paid for the the ticket. Not what you paid UT.
