Down memory lane at some Disney restaurants.

Here's one:
Narcoossee's used to be a very different restaurant--at least menu wise.

Remember the alligator spread they used to serve along with the bread? We used to LOVE that. I miss the old Narcoossee's...

I remember Ariels. It was the fancy beach club restaurant, just as the Yachtsman Steakhouse was the fancy Yacht club restaurant. I think it had a fish tank (or maybe I am just misremembering?).

Noooooo you aren't misremembering. LOL Your memory is FINE and I remember this place too! Great big wall of fish tank that divided the room! We had several wonderful meals here too and were sad when we went back one year and it was closed.

.

I do remember that spread they served at Narcoossees--.
And the Fishermans Deck was that seafood spot on the Empress.

And how about the old Seasons restaurant where the Disney Institute used to be?? We went when they very first opened and they had a different menu each of the 7 days of the week. One night was "New Orleans" night. Next was San francisco night . A third was '"Northhwest night"--and that's the night we went. Each of the nights featured regional cusine and the food was brought out to the table and served on a lazy susan. Mighty fine (they even had their own draft beer!!) and a unique way of presenting things. Of course it didn't last and the very next year the place went to a "Florida" menu, then something else, then it closed. It was never very crowded, and suffered from it's location. Wasn't terribly cozy either--was in a big barn-like room decorated with murals from the 4 seasons of the year.

And at Areils--we went twice, and the very first time we went (the first year they opened and also the very first time Mrs. U had "blackened" seafood) they had a 3 piece combo playing dixieland music. I have them on tape!!

I was not going to read this thread but I am glad that I did.

Top of the World -- Honeymoon :rolleyes1

The moose one at campground was the first onsite trip with our children --- lots of fun. :grouphug: It really was corny and fun.

Our last lunch at Disney for the longest time would be a large family meal at Fireworks Factory! The cornbread was the best!!!!

We would also (kids too) get all dressed up to go see the show at the Top of the World! Us kids (at the time) thought the shows were soooo cheesey but we got to act like adults for a minute! One memory of the fam doing this there was 7 or 8 of us and we had a front table so the entertainers came over to have us sing along with them. My cousin (an still to this day he is so goofy) was supposed to sing "Hello Dolly". He didn't. He decided to sing in the microphone "Hello Dummy" while everyone else was singing the regular song! Still to this day we laugh at that.

I also miss the lounge up there-grap a seat for the fireworks and have a Mickey Mouse!

I don't remember a whole lot of where we ate a Disney when I was a kid, but I do remember a couple. My parents brought us to the character breakfast on the Empress Lily. We thought that was the coolest thing ever. I also remember, if we were really good all day, they would bring us to the French restaurant in Epcot for dinner.

Thanks for the memories!

Jen

i remember when the beirgarten was a TS and i could have weiner scnitzel i miss it soo much it was 1987. same with the non character dinner at CRT wish they wouldn't change restaurants

I really miss Tangaroa Terrace at the Polynesian. It was a comfortable, family restaurant with a great breakfast buffet and banana stuffed french toast! We would always go there for breakfast before heading for the airport on our departure day.

Does anyone remember when the California Grill was Top of the World (?). I remember having an awesome brunch there on Sunday monrnings. Pricey (for the time), but wonderful. Anyone else remember that?

Also, Chef Mickey's used to be the Contemporary Cafe, I think. As a young married couple with a young child, we thought the buffet there was quite a bargain, lol!!

We went to the Top of the World when we went to WDW on the "Grand Plan". It was a show as well as a wonderful dinner. I have great memories of that night and that trip as a whole. Oh to be able to do that now. :rotfl2:

I can't remember what the restaurant was called, but we used to go to this breakfast buffet in Poly (non-character). I used to look forwardto it all trip. There was this omlet chef there named Wendel. When I was a kid I hated eggs, and he used to make me "an omlet without eggs". I don't know how he did it, but I was thrilled. We stopped going when I was about fourteen, but now that I'm pregnant (again) I actually dream about those omlets. :worship: "All Hale Chef Wendel!"

Remember when Artists Point (Wilderness Lodge) had the Pooh character meal? I was lucky enough to go there right before they cancelled it :guilty:

I remember that one. :)

We absolutly loved the "old" Norway restaurant. :teeth: It was a Great Buffet with food that was unique to any Restaurant at Disney. I very much miss that as when we tried the new version :furious: : well I dream that some day they will return it to the way it was in the begining.

The one I remember.. and it's nothing special.. is from waaaay back when in '74 in the MK, there was a Counter Service restaurant somewhere in Adventureland, I think in the building behind the Dole Whip stand. They served asian stuff, fried rice & egg rolls and I can remember it still!

Early Early days of WDW when Campgrounds and Contemporary were the only resorts. There was a Charater Breakfast at the campground with Chip and Dale, and Buff and the gang from the Wall at Country Bears. It was a SUPER breakfast with plated Scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, hash browns, juice, milk, coffee, HUGE chocolate chip muffins, fruit and a breakfast granola bar. The show was cute and funny, and we all got kazoos. Pretty sure it was in what is now the HDDR building. This was probably around 1976, we had a blast, and still remember those muffins, and Buff.

Must have been early indeed to be before the Polynesian, which opened in 1971! ;)

I am really enjoying this thread. As far as WDW goes, I don't go back as far as many of you. Our first trip was in 1992, and I recall the names Papeete Bay Verandah, Empress Lily, Ariels, etc I wish I had dined at these places, especially Papeete Bay because we stayed at the Polynesian! But one can only eat at so many places in 5 days, and little did I know we wouldn't return for several years. Lesson learned -- experience as much as you can, because you never know what's going to be missing when you come back. :sad2:

Who remembers when Fulton's was the Empress Lilly?
We had a wonderful meal here years ago, and we also made a special trip back to go to the Lounge. They had good drinks, great atmosphere, good appetizers and an entertainer who was awesome. I think his name was John Thomas? Anyone remember. We had a great relaxing evening then.

I do. This was one of the few Character breakfasts available 20 years ago. Just thinking about that lovely restaurant is bring back warm memories of a family time when my children were young.

OMG! I was thinking about both of these places. The first time I went to Disney, my then BF took me, and we had a wonderful dinner at the Top of the World. People who miss the dress codes would have loved this place. Formal setting, amazing food, and oh the ambiance. This was the first time i ever had wine served, and can still picture DH face when the wine steward wanted his okay. Several years later we took my kids to teh World, and we took them for Brunch. Now this was a ten day vacation with five of those days at the CR. We had been taking them for breakfast every day because DH did not like cereal and would not eat out without everybidy. This was big bucks for us back then. We waltz into the most beautiful brunch I had ever seen, and my little angels ate rice krispies in the box! I thought DH was going to have a stroke!

We also liked the breakfast character meal at the CR. It was one of our bargains!
