Down memory lane at some Disney restaurants.

I remember eating at Tangora Terrace before it was a buffet. They would bring out your breakfast in individual sized skillets.

We also ate someplace at the Disney Inn (now SOG) that had a clogging show. I can't recall the name.

I also remember when the Odyssey restaurant was open in Epcot. It is such a huge space, I wonder what they use it for now.

There was a brunch at the Lake Buena Vista Golf Club on Sundays...you had to take a boat to it and you got champagne (or ginger ale for kids) on the ride over...I  doing this...got all dressed up and felt grown-up with my champagne ginger ale!! :teeth:

Heidelburg Deli was the site of the Great Bologne Sandwich of '78...a story that still gets told in my family to this day.

Fireworks Factory is the restaurant we miss the most...my fave pic of my dad is him sitting at a table which is covered with beer glasses and rib remnants... *sigh*

The Baby Care center is there. Also it is used for special events such as the Food and Wine Festival, or CM events. But as far as I know most of the time the restaurant sits empty.

I am enjoying reading all of these posts--. Memory "lane" appears to be memory boulevard :) :)
Come with the young(er) Uncleromulus back to Sept. 1975--first visit to WDW ever. We stayed offsite that first trip, and decided on the Papeete Bay Verandah for dinner. What a choice!! First we were greeted at the podium and Mrs U got a Hawaiian flower lei. Then we went in just as the 3-piece combo and a hula dancer were just starting a set. Great group--they played Alfred Apaka kind of stuff--nothing loud or boisterous--very relaxing. The food was out of this world good. And of course the great view of the Castle and the Electric Water pagent as it went by. A couple of Seven Seas Cocktails to go along with it all and it added up to one VERY memorable evening.
I REALLY do miss that place----

I'm still trying to figure out what they're doing with the Odessey as well. Everytime I walk past it, I glance in the windows and it looks like its just being used for storage. The only thing over there are the restrooms and the first aid center. We used to always eat there when I was a kid.

I also have memories of the Empress Lilly---I think the first time I went there I was 4, soooo, yeah early '80's...very early '80's and I was so impressed because of the guy that came around to your table and had the crumb scraper and cleaned off the bread crumbs from the linens...funny houw I recall that..it made such a big impression on me.

I remember the fireworks factory as well, but sadly, I was never that impressed with the food (...mostly the ribs). Guess it was just because it was a family specialty and the only ribs we though that were excellent besides our own were Montgomery Inn's in Ohio.---still the best ribs there are...EVER. I was actually happy when they changed it to Wildhorse because then it reminded me of home when I was there (Nashvegas!)..actually had my rehearsal dinner for my starter wedding there.

Does anyone else remember when all the butter served at all the restaurants on property were in the shape of Mickey's body? I loved dissecting him as a kid---sick I know, but fun!

Also, my family LOVED Captain Jack's when Disney owned it. They had the BEST crab cakes. There was hardly any bread crumbs in them...just all lump crab...and the strawberry margaritas. This place was a must do everytime growing up as a kid. When Disney started selling off the restaurants the crab cakes were the first to go because no other company wanted to pay the money to have the crab shipped special just for that restaurant from Maryland..they had only one distributor that they bought from. My parents were devastated...

Ahhh, the memories.

I remember when O'Hanas was the Papeeta Bay (spelling is most definitely wrong  ), and breakfast with Minnie was a buffet. It was alot of fun, and all guests received a pin that said "I had breakfast with Minnie". Also, the Kona Cafe used to be called (I think) Seasons. They definitely made the right choice by ripping that place out and building Kona :thumbsup2

I also remember Chef Mickey's being in the Marketplace. It was a sit-down meal back then.

Remember when Artists Point (Wilderness Lodge) had the Pooh character meal? I was lucky enough to go there right before they cancelled it :guilty:

I still have the "I Had Breakfast With Minnie" pin. It's on my cube wall at work. Got that in 1993 when we took our then 3 year old son to the character meal.

We had a drink at the Papayate bar right after check in on our honeymoon in 1985. We had pina coladas and they served them in frosted glasses shaped like heads (kind of like Easter Island) that you could keep. I have those in my dining hutch.

Not very long ago but the breakfast at the restaurant at French Quarter was so yummy! They would bring out hot beignets and then you could go to the buffet. YUM!

I loved the breakfast at Soundstage in MGM. Now it's (i belive), Bear in the Big Blue House. Great trade off...wait no not really...

Does anyone remember The Land Grille Room? Yes, this was the Garden Grill when it was table service with a menu of choice. I remember ordering Key Lime Chicken (a marinated boneless breast) and it was wonderful! They also served a great cheese bread with Mickey Mouse butter that looked like a small statue!
I also miss Tangaroa Terrace. They had a great breakfast buffet with a waffle station....Hot, made to order Mickey waffles with assorted toppings...vanilla sauce was my favorite. Ahh, those were the days!
I love this thread!

I remember The Land Grille Room. I also remember Fireworks Factory--we ate there on our honeymoon, and we hated it!!! Our front desk attendant at Disney Inn advised us not to eat there if we had good BBQ in Tennessee, and we did not take his advice. Wish we had. We also ate breakfast at Tony's and loved it! The cinnamon roll and Lady and the Tramp waffle were my favorite!! They had salt and pepper shakers with Lady and the Tramp on them that I search the world over for and never found. :confused3

How about the Steerman's Quarters aboard the Empress Lily? We ate our honeymoon-meal-included-in-the-honeymoon-package there, again, a recommendation from the front desk that we took this time. :cool1: It was awesome. They gave us our menu with our orders circled as a souvenier. :yay:

We also liked the Sunrise Terrace in EPCOT for a quick bite.

That character breakfast is one of my fondest memories. When we went in 1987, it was called the Melvin the Moose character breakfast and I can still remember us all yelling out, "Wake up, you silly moose!" then all being given kazoos to play. And I can remember when we got on the bus afterwards and the bus driver said, not too kindly, "All right, everyone, put your kazoos in your pocket-no playing kazoos on the bus" and half the kids ignoring him. And I remember taking our Donald Duck-loving DS to the Empress Lily in 1989 because that was the only place at WDW (at least the CM said) where Donald dined. What's really sad is that when I remember back to those first couple trips, when our kids were little, I realize that all the character meals we went to (5 of them) have since been discontinued. Parents-take a lesson-take lots of pictures!
I still have my kazoo!

You ought to bring it on your next trip. I'll be there the same time and will listen for it!

I really miss that Sunday Brunch at the Top of the World. I remember it as being slightly more formal, with the waiters wearing black pants and white shirts and there was a big ice sculpture when we went. The room was so bright and sunny. Someplace at WDW really should have a big Sunday Brunch. I know HOB does, but that's not as centrally located.

I too was sad when Tony's stopped breakfast, it was a family tradition, every year we went the first meal on the first day was breakfast at Tony's....why did they ever close it :confused3

I remember going to the Empress Lily when my girlfriend and I visited WDW in the early 80s. We had "partied" a little before we arrived and I remember asking when the boat took off. I also miss Adventureland Verandah at MK, I thought I had entered the Twilight Zone looking for it when it had closed. Akershus was so much better when it included the hot buffet too. We have not gone back since experiencing the new arrangement. The Golf Resort had a great seafood restaurant that we ate at on our honeymoon. I can't remember the name.

The breakfast at Tony's was a victim of the tourism slump after 9/11. There were others, but most of them came back eventually (Flame Tree Barbecue is an example of this).

Actually, I think they were planning to do away with breakfast prior to 9/11. My mom and I had the sad pleasure of being the last ever breakfast guests at Tony's...and that was the last week of September 2000. I don't think 2-3 weeks would have been enough time to consider closing it due to 9/11.

It was a tradition for us, too, and we miss it alot when we go down.

Anyone ever eat at the Gulf Coast Room? It was a formal restaurant on either the second or third floor of the Contemporary. Before Victoria & Albert's opened it was the only restaurant (perhaps the Empress Room too? someone help me) to require men to wear jackets.
