Double Wide Stroller Should Be Banned

I understand the need for strollers, and we used a single wide when our kids were young. However, those double wide strollers are a pain to get around for everyone in the park. Worse yet is when they bring them into buildings. Often times there is no way around them. I can't imagine using a double wide at WDW is easy either. They should just ban them, even if that's what WDW rents.

BTW, at no point during our trip did I even notice the ECVs or wheelchairs, just the doublewide strollers plowing their way through the crowd.

No need for it to get ugly.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. We own a Citi Mini Baby Jogger double (the same as the orange strollers provided by Orlando Stroller Rentals), and I can tell you with certainty - without it, we'd have been unable to properly tour Disney on our last trip, and we'll absolutely need it this trip, as well.

We have five kids - DD15, DS13, DS4, DS2, DS4 months. Mom will wear DS4 months in a wrap or carrier most of the time, and I'll push the double with the two other little boys. What exactly would the OP have us do? Have mom and I each push a single umbrella stroller? Have us force one of the "big kids" to full time stroller duty? We intend to let them break off from us to do more "big kid" activities than they would be able to do if they always had to be with us. Is this wrong?

Should we be banned from stores because of our stroller?

I like to think that I'm a pretty adept stroller pilot; I make it a point to never block aisles or doorways. We never stop the stroller in walkways, or block ride entrances or exits - we always park the stroller in designated stroller parking before we get the kids out. If the store cannot accomodate the stroller, we either get the kids out of it, or one of us stays outside with them. That's pretty rare, though, since the aisles are typically laid out to accomodate wheelchairs due to the ADA.

And yet, the OP would ban the stroller? Must be a nice view from that ivory tower. ;)

Also, as a complete aside - I have both a double long and a double wide stroller - the double wide handles FAR better than any double long I have ever pushed.

I think that the OP has a pretty ignorant viewpoint, something fairly akin to stating that wheelchairs and ECVs should be banned, since they can inconvenience other folks. I firmly believe that operators of any such device - and I include strollers in this discussion - should make it a point to NOT be an inconvenience wherever possible... but I think that it's patently ridiculous to lay out a blanket statement such as "double wide strollers should be banned".

Your mileage may vary.

OK, they can be in the parks but you have to be there to give everybody lessons on proper double wide use. Remind them that double wides are not to be used as people plows.

I was standing in town square (near the flag poles) waiting for Wishes to start (the castle show had just ended) and all the sudden I hear this thudding noise on the ground. I turn to look and there's this young kid laying face down on the ground. Dad was pushing the stroller in a hurry and didn't see the curb and dumped one of the kids out of the stroller. Luckily, the kid was fine, but the husband sure got an earful from the wife. LOL. His liscense should be revoked.

I make it a point to not judge anyone's parenting decisions and/or skills.
I do not have children as of yet, and I don't want anybody making judgements on me!

Having said that, I think double strollers are perfectly fine!
The only thing I don't think is fine is sometimes the operator of that stroller can be a little careless, and not watching where they are "steering" :rotfl2:

Other than that, who expects a two and four year old to walk around or be carried around the parks?

i agree - I even had one and at times totally used it to my advantage and tried to plough people over!

Other times, it was just as unwieldily for me to use as for other's to deal with.

I also had a triple in-line which was so awesome. Cost a fortune and didn't fold down enough to fit in a regular car trunk, but the only way to go with 3 kids under 2

What about the double longs? Those always look so hard to maneuver to me but would those be easier to get around?

:scared1:
Are you for real?? IT'S DISNEYWORLD NOT A VEGAS CASINO!!!!

That can happen to any stroller, single or double, and can happen anywhere.

More than lessons on proper use - durr, push the stroller - people in general need common sense and manners. There is no skill to not blocking an aisle, that's just good manners. In case you haven't noticed by the multiple threads posted on the subject each week, lack of manners is an epidemic in no way restricted to those who own double strollers.

But it's nice to know that you have decided to no longer push for my personal ban from the parks. :rolleyes1

I do believe that is why they make buckles for stroller seats. My kids do not ride in a stroller w/o buckles on.

And I have a double wide stroller. I hate double long ones, they don't drive well at ALL and are much more of a pain. I try to keep from getting in people's ways and not annoying people but its not always easy. I have been debating taking two singles vs. the double for our trip but I still can't decide...However, I won't let your opinion that they should be banned, make my decision for me. I will decide what is best for my family based on my children. And I think that some people, no matter what type of stroller they're driving, will plow people over, they're just inconsiderate and it has nothing to do with the stroller type.

And that couldn't have happened in a single stroller because.....? :confused3

When my older 2 were younger, we had a double stroller, that was no wider than a wheelchair. Fabulous, fit through a regular door, and folded easily :thumbsup2 .

I thought they should make a "stroller lane" for everyone with a stroller... it would've made maneuvering a lot easier for us (yeah, we have a double stroller & LOVE it!)

No argument from me. Disney was nicer when there were a lot less strollers, IMO because this is the Dis.

I think they could ban them from going inside buildings but allow them in the park. They do make massive log jams in stores.

To one of the posters yes I would bring 2 umbrella strollers. don't know why the older kids would have to push one I only see a baby and a 2 yr old?

DD15. DD13. DS4. DS2. DS4 months. That's five kids, three age four and under (and the four year old will have been four for one month as of our trip). So no, two umbrella strollers won't cut it - baby will be too young to use an umbrella stroller, period. He'll be carried most of the time, but the double will allow him to lie down and wiggle a bit while the four year old takes a turn walking (or we perhaps carry one of the smaller boys).

I think that you should contact Disney (wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com) with your idea of banning us from stores, but graciously allowing us to use our stroller in outdoor areas of the parks. I'm betting that Disney will see it your way - they don't actually want the full $2500 or so that my family of seven will end up spending on incidentals, souveniers, and such during our eleven nights at WDW.

Sure, if we keep the stroller outside - which means that we'll have to load/unload the kids on every gift shop, which means that we'll just not go in them all - it will cut down on our spending, but I'm willing to bet that Disney is happy to forfeit our money - and money from other families with young children - so that we don't possibly inconvenience you.

You ought to send that email today. Maybe even organize a facebook group!

No kidding! I have seen a many folks try and use them as their own personal "cow catcher"!

Now with that being said, I used a single MacLaren but I wouldn't hesitate to get a double stroller (wide or long) if I ever needed one.

I only brought up the ECV's and wheelchairs because some people here have made a stink about them, but honestly I never noticed those at all. I did see people jumping in front of ECVs though, which was uncool.

Will some of the really huge strollers even fit down the aisles of some stores? People who have small children need them of course but I don't see how some of the giant strollers can even be maneuvered in some areas. I feel for you!
