Double dip pricing

Looks like a double dip is out for me. I'll be checking on the price for a 7 day eastern in May tomorrow. Shoudl be less expensive!

I don't have numbers handy right now, but the 5/23 Eastern was around $7400 for 5 of us in 2 11c rooms. Was about $300 more total than the double dips.

If we were willing to spend that much, we would have chosen the longer cruise.

Two years ago I scored a GTY balcony room about 2 months before sailing on the 5 night Dream douple dip. I think the total price was $3200 with all fees included(2 adults, 2 children). I ended up with a CAT 4A. I'll take my chances with GTY as its gets closer. I just sailed a B2B on the Magic in a 1 bedroom for almost what it costs for a 5A. Crazy.

I believe you mean you had a VGT and got a 4A.

GTY is not a discounted rate, and is directly tied to a specific category number/letter (i.e., 7A GTY). A specific category goes "GTY" when a certain percentage of those rooms have been booked and DCL will no longer allow stateroom selection. But fares are going-rate, most likely higher than those who booked and selected a stateroom. While an upgrade is possible, most GTY reservations receive the category booked.

*GT (IGT, OGT, VGT) is a very different animal. These are last-minute, highly discounted rates that also carry restrictions. While often offered, there is no guarantee and they've been coming out later/closer to sailing recently making it even more last minute than around PIF. They are broad category (interior, oceanview or verandah) and one could be assigned any stateroom within the broad category.

You didn't get a GTY (that would have been prevailing rate) - it was a *GT rate.

I was on the 5n DD Dream - this was 3rd week in August, so it was already low season then.

Booked OGT 2A/2C (tween/teen) and it was just a tad above $3K. We got upgraded to a 5E. Got the $50 OBC from Disney Visa and $100 Visa GC from my AAA TA. That was our first cruise.

I think that's the only way I will look at doing this next...

Yes you are right. VGT. Sorry was typing on my phone and had a brain fart. I know all about the rates and restrictions. My cruise was the frist week of August and my twins were 5 at the time. You can see the dates in my signature.
