"Double Dip Delight" Alternate Western 09/27/08

We just got off the Magic on Saturday, September 29, and booked this cruise while on there. We normally stay in a categoy 9 on Deck 2 (for the last 4 cruises), but the only 9's available were on Deck 1. Can anyone give me some feedback about staying on Deck 1. My DW initially did not want to book the stateroom for Deck 1.

Btw, it will be me (Lionel), my DW (Becky), and our DDs (Raquel and Rebekah, both age 14 at the time of the cruise).

:welcome:

Remember the cruise is still 11 months away.. There is always a chance for you to get that deck 2 room still.. Call DCL now and again and check availabilty..

As for deck 1.. I spent 4 + hours in the Ship's ER last month and didn't feel much movement  Although, I wasn't fully "with it" either.. The Nurse said sometimes when the Ocean is rough, she feels it now and again..

Hey All,

I haven't been posting much because it has been busy, but I am reading. I like the lovely house:thumbsup2 and I am totally green with envy of those who are cruiseing now and those who are doing b2bs.

On the Transatlantic cruise here is how the name badges were done (I personally like it that way):

Each badge had the person's real name in larger type on the top line and underneath the DISname of the main poster for that person's group.

So, mine would say:
HADLEY
NHDisneyLover

DH's would say:
DAVE
NHDisneylover

DD's would say:
MARIKA
NHDisneyLover

etc. For Rio and even my in-laws Hank and Jan. Not everyone posts, but it helps to know which poster the random Hank or Jan or Dave is associated with as we have probably all read about him/her. It also helps everyone to know which of (likely) several Daves, MY Dave is.

For those rare cases where more than one member of a family posts, each has his/her own DISboard name listed underneath.

I suggest that to help us KNOW when there are individuals from the same family posting seperatley and wanting a different DIS name that when we get closer we ask to have info submitted to me or Erik (we'll tell you who) in a standard fromat. Something like:
DISname
first names of all under this "umbrella name"
a room # for delivery

For example, I would then PM myself:rotfl2: the following:
NHDisneylover
Hadley, Dave, Marika, Rio, Hank, Jan
5530

But PLEASE don't start PMing those yet. We'll let you know when we are ready for them (sometime closer when it is less likely plans will be changed, etc.).

Hadley,

Thanks for the awesome directions. The only change I might offer is that we might not HAVE to do the lanyard list separate from Kimberly's roster that she's keeping. In an ideal world they could be the same list just to make things easier. Also....once it comes time to start confirming the list, we might even be better off to post an email address to send the info to rather than having it PMed because there are limits on the number of PM's a person can have and I wouldn't want to overload that memory. When it comes time if we need to create a separate system to control lanyard info then we could create a free email account through yahoo or google or hotmail or something to do that.

Also....just FYI for everyone else.....I hope people don't feel uncomfortable about us asking for things like screennames, real names (first ONLY), and staterooms....but it definitely helps us with our process. I know this seems early to talk about some of this stuff....but it's good to get a jump on this stuff. In addition to helping make sure that we can make the lanyard tags and get them delivered......getting this list put together sooner rather than later is critical so that I can design the lanyard itself and get it ordered. We're going to need a rough headcount so that I order enough and so that I know how much $$$ each member of the lanyard team needs to contribute so that the full cost is covered and everyone aboard can get their lanyard as our gift to you!! (Remember, too, if you are interested in being a part of the :cheer2: "Lanyard Team" :cheer2: (which is a group of about 20 folks/staterooms who will all be chipping in some money to help cover the cost of the lanyards and nametags for the whole group) then please PM Hadley and let her know!)

Hadley, great idea! I like the thought of having the main DISer's name on the "others" just for the reason you mentioned.

I can already accommodate your suggestion without the need for people PMing you and Erik, too. :)

Yeah....what he said! Sorry for repeating you, Erik. I hadn't made it that far down to read your response yet!

Kimberly,
You are the most awesome record keeper ever:thumbsup2 Lovely not to have to make a spererate list.
Erik is correct, if anyone else wants to be on the lanyard team PM me. I will post the current list o' lanyard teamers tonight (running to dance class in a moment).

Yeah I forgot to mention this.....I actually forgot until Hadley just talked about it that on the TransAtlantic repo what they did was on the MAIN poster's nametag we printed the screenname in a certain size/color/font and on everyone else in their travel party who is "under" them....the screenname was printed just in a different color.......So I can play on my end with ways to distinguish that visually so it will be clear who is the main poster and who are their family.....in honor of my dear friend Chris (Scoobypop) and for all of you other Big Brother fans (which I'm not, actually, so Chris'll be quite pleased that I at least know this jargon)....we'll call the main poster from this point forward the "HoH"---Head of Household!! :lmao: :lmao:

I just looked online and 2616 is open on deck 2, cat 9... Call DCL and see if you can move up to deck 2.
I am on deck 2 with Pfishgirl's mom.

Greetings All.

The FatCat has booked the Double Dip Delight....

WELCOME ONE AND ALL!!! Do you have your land legs back yet? :)

Lionel, your daughters will be joined with three other 14 yr old young ladies! You are also our FIRST Georgian! That bumps us up to 26 states in the US represented in addition to 3 other countries! Very cool!!

FatCat, I would be happy to look up others the ages of your girls as well if you want to share their age at time of cruising.

As Stacy (pfishgirl) mentioned, Post 577 (link in my siggy) will help you climb right on in with us!

Our thread has quite a busy bunch of chatters! As the Cast Roll Call List keeper, let me suggest that you check out Post 577 to see if there's anything else listed there that you would like to share about yourselves. There's a new website currently underdevelopment (the old one is found in a link under my signature), and the information you give me will get posted up there!

Post 577 is also a good "go-to" thread to see what kind of activites we've been talking about. If you have other suggestions, please share!!! For some of the activities that may make you say "Hmmm...what is that?!", I tried to add links to other posts that discuss it. Certainly ask if there's anything you want to know more about. This post also has info about locating our cruise logo so you can use it for door magnets, your siggy, or whatever you choose.

So I can play on my end with ways to distinguish that visually so it will be clear who is the main poster and who are their family.....in honor of my dear friend Chris (Scoobypop) and for all of you other Big Brother fans (which I'm not, actually, so Chris'll be quite pleased that I at least know this jargon)....we'll call the main poster from this point forward the "HoH"---Head of Household!! :lmao: :lmao:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

One rule though....you can't nominate anyone to be voted off the ship! You probably should receive a special reception in Lounge 6080 though! We'll redefine the LNC!

.....We're going to need a rough headcount so that I order enough and so that I know how much $$$ each member of the lanyard team needs to contribute so that the full cost is covered and everyone aboard can get their lanyard as our gift to you!! Which reminds me......Hadley I'm going to trust you'll ensure this happens. As of this minute, we are at 383 cruisers!! :woohoo: That's a lot of red ink and cardstock for these lanyards! Please ensure the total cost includes money to give to Erik for his supplies. A couple of ink cartridges isn't cheap! I know Erik won't speak out to this, so I will! ;)

At some point when all this gets settled, let me price it out using Kinko's or Costco with a business discount. Might be cheaper that way to have them print the cards out.

You're a gem! It's certainly worth a try.

That isn't necessary....and neither is paying me for ink. I have access to a nice color laser printer at work that I can use and this project is not going to be that many copies actually.

Besides I have to actually go through and painstakingly enter each name by hand onto each nametag. Because of the way we created the logo, there is not, to my knowledge, anyway, to get it to pull the names off a spreadsheet and just add them....so I have to actually create a template that prints about six nametags per sheet and then I have to sit with a list and go through and type them all in one by one. I can then save and print the file as one complete document...if we estimate (at this point, at least) about 350 cruisers from this board then at 6 nametags per page, that is almost 60 pages (and each nametag will have a front and back)...which really isn't that unreasonable for me to do at work. (I did a project earlier this week where I printed out 500 pages that were color image on front AND back....so that equated to 1000 pages of color printing!!)......honestly I would say that I won't run into trouble unless it requires more than 200 pages of color printing....which is 100 two-sided pages.....so I'll start to worry about maybe using Kinko's or having people chip in $$ towards ink if/when our roster reaches 600 people....and even though we seem to be taking on a bunch of new cruisers every day.....I doubt we'll end up with THAT many people!!

What about a Mail Merge in Word? I could see about setting that up for you, if you'd like. You're pulling from Buckeye Gal's Excel Spreadsheet, so the theory is you would only need to verify, versus type them all in.

Hey Buckeye Gal..............

What's the stats on who is staying at the Hyatt Fri night??????

Just wondering...........

Thanks,
Crissi

I think I win for the best packer award :)

Wow. Just.....WOW.
You are my HERO!!!!!! :rotfl:

Also as a matter of preference....how do people want their names on thier nametags? First name AND screenname?
Or do we prefer to have only our names and no DIS screenname? And if we DO use DIS screennames, how do we want to indicate our family members who aren't actively posting, but traveling with us? Or do they just get their names and only the active posters get a DIS name?

Food for thought!

Another vote for both names here. I am easily confused and very bad with names. :rolleyes1

Greetings All.

The FatCat has booked the Double Dip Delight.

Just got off the Magic 9/22/07 Western.

Thought I would do it again.

Hope to meet all of you and look forward to talking with all of you
during these long months.

Welcome! :goodvibes

So, if I am reading this correctly......there will be TWO LIONELS on the boat? I am a little concerned that this might cause some sort of a rift in the space-time continuum......

My husband will be very excited to swap name stories with you. "Linnel? Liono? Leeee-oh-nell?" and of course "Like the trains?" or "Like Lionel Richie?" :rotfl:
Add a French surname, and you have our lives, which are filled with one mispronunciation after another.

I am supposed to be working right now. :rolleyes1
Back to the grindstone.

Here's the list I have thus far for those staying at the Hyatt MCO. Like the previous list I posted, if there is a duplicate, that means the DISer has friends/family staying there with them as well.

I really don't mind doing it. I don't think a mail merge will work anyway...because of the way they are set up in the first place (which, of course is partially my fault since I created them....I just didn't know any other way to do it!) I am going to have to create each name/screename as a separate piece of word art and superimpose it in the white space on the image below the map. Please don't worry about trying to make it easier for me.....I have Jason here to help me, too....we'll be able to get it done. I"m not concerned in the least....I volunteered to do it because I'm happy to do it for everyone....call it my "pay it forward"......the lanyards and nametags ended up being so useful and wonderful for me and Jason on the last cruise we took that I want to share them with everyone on this cruise!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

Just for the record there will be 6 in the group for Grandma4ever. That is myself, Janet, My sister Debbie (Twin Princesses), Her DD twins both (10) and our niece (14). Looks like we may have a good group. When we know when everyone is arriving maybe we can schedule a meet. If we are all there at a reasonable hour maybe it can be dinner if not breakfast. We only have 357 Days 6 Hrs 51 Mins 34 Secs to plan. I am not sure we have enough time. Lois
