Hi, Brandie's mom! <wave>

We're sitting here watching the Primetime show about Nascar. The race they are following is Talladega. Tough race. Ah, they're back there in October & the chase will be hot & heavy by then. We'd love to get to Lowe's (Charlotte, NC) when they come back in a few weeks, but don't think that's going to happen - have to pay for the cruise after all. Priorities. Nothing quite like being at the track, hearing the cars & feeling the vibrations as a field of 43 cars fly by at 180+ MPH, but I can watch it on TV. Of course, if I watch it at home, I don't have to worry about sitting in a parkng lot for hours & hours trying to get home after the race (not to mention all the idiots who get behind the wheel & drive home after drinking during the entire race).

Mom goes with friends who have a RV. That's the extent I know about Nascar. :duck: I know Mom has told me who she likes, but I honestly can't remember the names or numbers... could be the drinks earlier, but I doubt it!

Brandie

Ya sure it wasn't the drinks? ;) There's only so many driver names & #s to remember after all. Seriously, its easy to get them all jumbled, even if you do follow the races.

Ah, that would be so much fun going w/folks in an RV. Its one big party. :dance3:

Brandie--Thanks for the Pixie dust:) Sure, I'll bring a couple of books to trade with you. But, I have to admit I hardly read at all on the cruise (even the 14 night)--I am always too busy doing all the FUN things on the ship that I don't get to do elsewhere. We all THOUGHT we'd have plenty of time to read on the repo (and yet I don't think any of us did much) and someone put an old tote bag they didn't want by their door to use as a book exchange (actaully they were on two doors--one for adults and one for kids). We can do that if there is interest (even if we all just take home some new thigns to try it may be fun). The idea was to leave any leftover unwated boosk behind for the ship's library or crew. We would happy to be a door which holds a bag (we are near the kids' clubs on level 5 so perhaps the kids bag could be on our door--and we do have an AVID reader of YA books in our cabin).

Drea--Awesome martini logo:thumbsup2 You are too good at this!

CyndiFan--All NASCAR means to us is that race weekends are best spent out of town or staying at the house. We live about a half hour from the Loudon, NH track. You shoudl see the traffic on I-93 on race weekends:scared1: They usually reverse the traffic in all but one lane to all be headed the appropriate dircetion (North on Friday and South on Sunday) and it actually really helps.

Drea--GREAT logos. I like #4 the best (though Mickey would have to come off for shirts, etc I think). If we want everytihing to be totally consistent, I think we could add "ears" to the top cone (as a hat or something) and probably get away with it.

Hadley -
More pixie dust your way for parts in Pippin. Hope it works out well.
That's a pretty neat idea of a book exchange. I'd have to pick up something from our local used book store to bring though as I have such a hard time giving up the ones I've read.

I feel for you living that close to a track. I am a fan, but would NOT want to be located that close. I have some friends in Bristol (TN & VA depending which part of the city you're in). They have the same type of issues whenever there's a race in town. My dad's gone to a race in Bristol & told stories of sittng for 4 hours (yes, 4) just to get out of the parking lot. There's only one way in & one way out!

I can't get there from here... On a good note, would upgrading to a Cat 5 mean people would get money back?

What's a Cat 4 going for, if you don't mind me asking?

Brandie

CAT 4 is $3398, 5 is $2698 and 6 is $2718, plus $85.88 tax and surcharge. You can look them up! Samsclub dot com. That price is for 2 adults. And Sam's is rebating $300 after the cruise!

Ok, as long as we're talking about interests & stuff - are there any Nascar fans out there? Or are DH & I the only ones? Wonder if we can catch the race on the ship............

Booogity, booogity, booogity let's go racing! (to quote one of my fav announcers - DW)

Besides mixology (& consuming said mixes), books, Big Brother........what other interests do folks have? My favorite reality show is about to start back up - Dancing With the Stars. :happytv:

Yeah, I know - it mixes really well w/Nascar, eh? Go figure........

popcorn::

We will join in a race with you!! Right now I am watching CMT 40 greatest NASCAR moments. They just showed Adam Petty sniff sniff. Living in this area, it's pretty hard not to get interested in it!!! Hopefully when we cruise they will be showing the races on ESPN and actually broadcasting it on the ship!

DW (Jaws) is not my fav announcer. Mine is Alan Bestwick, but boy they have really shafted him. Not sure how he fell so hard out of their graces. When he does pit duty he didn't even get to interview the winner!:confused3 Kyle Petty did a great job (except for that explicative!)

Looking forward to enjoying the cruise with you:thumbsup2

I am sooooooo glad we are cruising with you........what is better than best friends on a Disney Cruise.............NOTHING!!!!!!!

That is, unless Dale kills me first.....he thinks my countdown is a little premature.......... but as usual I don't care.......he can't keep me down !!!!

WOOHOO!!!!!!

I think it would be so cool for DCL to have something like the Rusty Wallace theme cruise on Carnival...'cause I don't want to go on Carnival

Sorry about so many posts! I was on here yesterday, but was again so far behind that I decided to just send comments so I wouldn't forget what I wanted to say!

I love the book exchange idea! I'm sure I will have some books to bring by next year. I have a few favorite books that I will not part with, but most others I will. I get most of my books from Goodwill for $.50 each, so I don't get too attached to them. I also check a lot of books out from the library.

On another topic! I just found out that our passports should be here in a couple of days! :cool1: Only had to wait 13 weeks!

I do have a couple of questions. I thought I read that there is a $15.00 per bottle corking fee if you bring your own bottle of wine. Can you uncork your own bottle in the room and bring it open, or will they charge you the $15.00 anyhow?

We are not heavy drinkers (because we are usually driving somewhere or have the kids with us), but wine with dinner sounds nice. I just don't want to have to spend $25.00+ on a nice bottle of wine and then have to pay more on the ship. I think I might have a bottle or 2 from our last escape to Builtmore.

I started a "Finally a good passport story" thread. We got ours in 5 weeks, can you believe it?

The answer to the corkage fee question is no, sadly you can't un-cork it and bring it along and not have to pay the fee. Some people bring their glass of wine with them (but the cruise-critic board I hang out on frowns greatly upon this. Like using a refillable mug at a different resort.)I would love to see how they would charge that fee with a box though!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We are doing a Celebrity cruise and their corkage fee is $30 :scared1: . The $15 is not too bad when you consider how much a bottle of wine is.

Thanks for looking that up. That jump from Cat 5 to Cat 4 is a killer; oh well! We didn't need the space anyway. We have a Cat 5 for kiddo, hubby, and I, and a Cat 11 for my mom.

My passports came today!!!!!:dance3: Honestly, they look just like my DS's toy one - but the inside is different. I'm just so happy to have them!!!!

Well, I guess a cork fee it is. I found a nice bottle of wine to pack along with our passports and snorkel gear. I am trying not to pack everything right now. I can just hear DH, "Honey, have you seen the shampoo? Or my Sunday clothes?:confused3 " ME, :rolleyes1

Wow, packing already? Amazing! So glad you got your passport so quick.

I wonder what the dining room people would say if we got a 1.5 liter bottle? Twice the size, same corkage fee??

Drea, I definately want either a t-shirt or a magnet for my door of "The Mouse Lounge" - I love it!

I really liked your "take 2" scroll also.

Great alcohol experimentation stories! DH and I just got our payout from summer bowling league so we might have some more stories to add to the mix after this three-day weekend ;)

As part of our "Geeks on a Budget" we were actually planning on bringing a glass of wine with us to dinner one night, as someone on the DIS suggested. But if it's frowned upon, I don't know if I want to. I don't want to be tacky!

Happy Thursday evening, everyone. :goodvibes

About Wine--The corkage fee applies if you have it in the dining room though I have heard it is applied very sporadically. We generally just purchase the wine package if we want to have drinks with dinner so I do not have actauily experience here. Where we do have experience is in having our own wine and asking the room host to bring you wine glasses and a corkscrew and enjoying the wine (and cheese and fruit from room service) out on the verandah as a before or after dinner treat. This works well and is NOT frowned upon (like bringing your own glass to dinner is). The corkage fee is ONLY if you want to drink the wine in the dining room. Afternoon drinks and snacks on the verandah are THE reason to get a verandah. I do not recomend bringing your own corkscrew as it may be taken by securty and the room hosts are happy to bring you one.

About Pippin--Dave and I somehow managed to score parts in the ensemble:banana:  Thanls to all for the Pixie Dust:goodvibes Given that niether of us has dance experience and we have both always been told that we cannot sing AND we will miss two weeks of rehersals we are rather stunend (only about half of those who audtioned got parts and many of those have at least some experience in these areas). Neither kids made it which was expected. Theo went to a 13 year old boy who looks that old (odd casting--he was terrible at the dance and reading, so I am guessing he must sing really well; I was sure the 11 year old who lokoks 7 had it). The kids took it well (I bought donuts--a rare treat--for breakfast to soften the blow) and I think the audition experience is good for them. The full cast read through is tonight--like I have time for that:rotfl2: This is going to seriously curtail my DIS time. On the brightest side, it seems the dancing is so heavy in this show that I might well fit into the pink barbie dress by the time we strike (if only I can then maintain it for 11 months:rotfl: ).

Congratulations, Hadley! :cool1:

I'm off to get the babygirl from day care (aka, wait around until she's ready to go).

Talk more later...

Brandie
