Hadley, that sounds really neat! I think the only thing I could have children visiting for (apart from Disney) would be seeing if they were strong enough to endure the summer heat. Florida is already getting so balmy

You are not kidding. I was amazed at how hot it got. The pool is already reaching the 90s duriing the day and at night only cools off to 84
Doing activities during the day must be planned, with 3 essential items
1...sunscreen
2...water
3...shade

But hey, at least we do not have to deal with SNOW, ICE, SLEET

I'll take the snow, ice and sleet over the heat and humidity any day We so don't handle your southern summer weather well. I am origianlly frmo easte Texas and I sued to spend summers with my grandaprents. They din't have air for most of those summers, and my grandmothers would always make biscuits in the morning which would heat the tiny house up so hot. I loved my summers with my grandmother but I do haver an overriding memeory of being terribly hot all the time.

Yes it is definately hot. We have some wonderful heat going on here.

Can anyone tell me -
are there individual thermostats (that actually work) in each room or is there a giant one that controls the entire ship?

I have a feeling even w/one in the room, temp control is going to be interesting betw me & DH. When I'm comfy, he's sweating; when he's comfy, there are icicles hanging off my nose (well, at least it feels that way).

You control your own a/c in the cabin...although it's hit or miss for us in the past if the room host/ess leaves it at your temp. We have had staff in the past who reset it "for" us....but the rooms are sized such that they come to temperature pretty quickly. Jason and I are always able to make our room very comfortable!

Hi Kelly, Glad to see you're thinking of joining the cruise! Like Hadley, we didn't get our fill of you either! Think of another week of Art of Entertainings!

I'm in Florida right now (Jacksonville) for my neice's graduation/18th birthday party. I think the weather is perfect, not too hot. Then again, I left the 103 degree heat behind in Las Vegas. At least we don't have the humidity there though!

One thing we like to do, especially with the Caribbean cruises, is leave the balcony door open and the night air usually makes the cabin temperature perfect!

Hey, Erik (& Jason). I forgot to say thanks for the detailed info on the massages avail. So, thanks!

Can you (or anyone else) please tell me the difference betw cat 9 & cat 8 rooms? We're currently booked in a 9, level 2 (so 1 large porthole instead of 2 small ones). Our room is mid-ship so not under any of the clubs. Another plus for us since DD is 4 (now, 5 at cruise time) & needs her beauty rest so she acts a little more like a princess instead of an ogre. (so its Stitch, not Shrek, but you get the idea) Nothing against Shrek, love him & Fiona dearly. I just don't want to deal w/more drama than absolutely necessary. If ya see a 15 year old in a 5 year old body, chances are that's her - hormones & all. (I swear, I think she's dealing w/hormones already. I shudder to think of 10 years from now. )

Ok, back on topic.............
I know the 2 categories are on different levels, but other than that, what difference is there? Is the extra little $ worth it for an 8?

Honestly I'm not positive because we've never stayed in those category of room....however, I suspect that the difference is primarily what deck the room is on. For instance I know that the difference between Cat 6 and 5 is often merely a difference in location on ship. The only way for you to assess whether the extra money is worth it would be to maybe call DCL or your TA and find out if you DID upgrade, what room would you be in...then you can look at a map of the ship and see if you think that room is in a significantly better location. We are in a 6 now....but we probably won't even consider moving up to a 5 because we feel they're pretty much the same.....we'd rather save the money and perhaps at the port see if we can't get a good deal on an upgrade to a Cat. 4...which is up on Deck 8 and has a significant space difference in the cabin.

Cyndifan, I think the dif between an 8 & 9 is that a 9 is only for 3 ppl. We were thinking about upgrading and DH says we will have to skip to 8 (currently a 10) so I am assuming that is why.

I pulled out the Disney Planning Guide (that you can get with the free DVD), and it lumps Cat. 8 & 9 together as the same. They both are 214 sq. ft, sleeping 3, some 4. It appears that all Cat. 9 are on Decks 1 Forward & 2 (full length of ship). Category 8 cabins are on Decks 5-7 Forward. So....imo, it's a matter of if you want to order one or two desserts! Sounds like you already did some homework on the porthole views as well.

That's correct. As I understand it they're exactly the same, except for location. We recently upgraded from 9 to 8 because it was only $75 total and we were able to move to Deck 6 forward, just in front of the elevator and stairs, only one deck up from the kids clubs. I thought the convenience was worth the $75, though I don't think I'd have paid any more than that. Our cabin sleeps 4.

Did ya look at the time of the post? Last night at 7:40. The things I had scheduled for Sun were already done. I just had to ck what's happening on the boards....
BTW, I spent a little time last night atop America's highest hotel in a slowly spinning lounge, sipping a coffee drink & watching the sun go down (when my part of the lounge swung back around to the west that is). Prepping for the beach, don't ya know. The ride up to the 72nd floor in a glass elevator on the outside of the hotel was quite interesting - NOT for folks w/fears of heights.

Does anyone have any recommendations for spa treatments? I was reading Erik's wonderful descriptions of the spa villas and I'm thinking if I can save enough money I would give one a try. Also has anyone gotten an up-do at the salon for formal night?

I had known it wasn't much difference between 8 and 9 $$$ wise, but from 10(ouch!)...big jump for the window.
I think we're getting too spoiled reading all these TR's with people leaving balcony doors open at night and sitting out there eating tuxedo strawberries. We are hooked on the idea of upgrading to a balcony room.

As much as we want to though, I think we are just going to keep our fingers crossed and hope against hope for a free bump. We have one thing going for us, we are booked in one half of a connecting room, so I'm *praying* somebody who needs connectors comes along and insits on taking ours!!!

Does that happen? I am pretty happy with my cat 10 SPH room, but it is the other half of a connecting room.

DH and I discussed getting a stateroom with a balcony, but I'm a little leary about having young children with the open water. At AKL we were on the 4th floor and even though the railings were very tall, it still made us nervous whenever the kids would get near the edge. We are just strange that way.

Perhaps on our next DCL cruise we will splurge for the open balcony when the kids are older.
