Well, dh left this morning on stage one of his long trip to Afghanistan. We're effectively in non-communication mode until he reaches his final posting- and he still doesn't know where he'll end up. I'm hoping it's not along the Pakistan border, but with our luck, it will be.

And now everyone has me paranoid about flights! We're flying Southwest, and I'm going to be obsessively checking to make sure our flights are still scheduled, instead of just trying to get a lower price.

Julie

Julie, I hope you all had a wonderful time together while DH was able to come back home. I'm sure it's been an emotional day for everyone, so I'll be thinking about you, the kids, and his safe journey!

Do you mind sharing what model you have? So it tapes on the mini DVD's?
Crissi I got mine in like 2005 and it is late model 2004 release. I wasn't even in the market for it it, but I was in the right time at the right place and got 75% off retail on it(was $1000 I got it for $250). I have been very pleased with it and I like using the little DVDs with it and I love that it has a good zoom on it and the color is incredible. One down fall is that I purchased Adobe Premire Elements to edit videos with the Best Buy guy telling me it was compatible with it only to find out it was not. So if you buy editing software make sure you double check that it will work with the type of camcorder you get. Oh I suppose I should say I have the Sony DCR-DVD301.
So far I am in the market for either a canon g9 or the s5 thats for a larger camera.. then I start to think well I kind of want a camera that I can just put in my lil black purse or back pocket like one of the Elph SD powershots. UGG so many to choose from.
I'm endorsing the S5 I got it for Christmas this past year and it is just amazing. It is on the bigger side, but the pictures it takes are just incredible.
For those of you looking into a new camcorder without breaking the bank but still giving you superior quality and ease of use I recomend the following

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/537779-REG/JVC_GR_D870_GR_D870_MiniDV_Camcorder.html

I purchase most of my products thru B&H and never had a problem so shop in confience
I have used BH before and they are great. I would recommend them as well. Then you get all of their big catalogs in the mail too those are fun to look through.
Just makes it one more step closer!! :woohoo: Speaking of....
OMG!! Do you see my ticker? there is a "1" in front of the word "month"!! :cheer2:
Wow that is crazy. So who is packing out there? I have started making lists of things to send down ahead of time, what to buy in FL, and what not, but I'm hoping to start packing just after Labor Day.

So who is packing out there?

I'm packing, but not for the cruise yet!!:lmao: I have all of my clothing picked out for my WDW trip next week!!!! Though, I'll probably end up taking a lot of the same clothing I'm taking now on the cruise.

:)

Hugs to you Julie! :grouphug: I hope your DH finds out soon where he's going to end up.

Julie:
Thank you once again for the sacrifice you & your family make in having a spouse in the service (deployed or not). Its because of your husband & family that our family is much safer! We are keeping all of you in our prayers. :grouphug:

I hope his travel is uneventful & that you hear from him soon.

Drea:
Thank you to you & yours as well!

If I've left off any of the service personnel families, please know these thank you's are for all of you!

Just a quick note to point out DISBoard email notifications for new posts isn't working again.

Oh, and I took a look at our big suitcases last night and we need to replace both of them. *ouch* That's going to be expensive.

Julie - :grouphug: As far as flights - I may be wrong but I don't think I've seen too many issues with SW flights. Alot have been AirTran and other carriers. Also, SW is cool as they don't restrict your luggage!

Thanks all for the well wishes. I think my countdown is off, because I forgot to add demobilization time- which can take up to two weeks once he leaves there and gets back here.

I'm glad Southwest allows two bags, because we pack a lot. Too much. We managed China with less than one suitcase each-- ended up with 4 for the 6 of us, but we never had to dress up, and I only took one pair of shoes (the ones I wore which is a big achievement for me).

Julie

Julie

I just ordered our FE gifts WOOOOOHOOOOOOO

We are flying airtran and they have changed our flights but not too much only by 1/2 hour each way. I think Philly is a Hub for Airtran so far so good when we fly them! I did tell Dh he has to have a carry on this trip, I figure I will pack as much as I can in our suitcases, he may have to carry on shoes or undies, how funny would that be:rotfl:

We are thinking of Pirate T shirts for the adults, can we wear them to dinner with capris (women) shorts (guys) or do we have to get dressed up if not in Full pirate attire? We have last seating and I would hate to have to rush back to the room and get changed for the party! do the guys have to wear pants?
HELP

Thanks

do the guys have to wear pants?
HELP

Thanks

All I can think of is guys in skull and crossbone boxer shorts. So yes, pants are a good thing. :lmao: I think officially they say "no shorts" but I've read on the boards that doesn't apply to Pirate formerly Tropical night. We're wearing Halloween costumes. Same pirate costumes we've been wearing every year since our first MNSSHP in 2004. We were going to do a Chinese pirate theme, but decided against it, though I might get the Elizabeth Chinese costume from Disney Store if it's available in youngest dd's size.

Julie

I've got a question about semi-formal & formal night attire.

I see that some of your husbands are service members, mine is as well. Do you think he would look out of place if he wore his dress blues during either of those meals?

You can wear them to dinner. I don't think there are any restrictions on pirate night.

Maureen

Many adults had on capris and shorts on Pirate night. We plan on the same thing, that is one less dress outfit to take. :)

After dinner, DH went back to the cabin and did up his face for Pirate Night. He was hilarious. Pirate night dress is casual. I wore black capris and a pirate shirt. DH wore shorts and a pirate shirt. The belt is from the drapes in the cabin. That made everyone laugh..

No, I think he'd look wonderful. :thumbsup2 He might have to watch out for swooning women... Do you think he would take that chance? :rotfl:

No- we've seen men in all sorts of uniforms on board. If dh were going, I'd make him wear his blues, even though he looks like the cracker jack boy in them. Best uniform we've seen: Marine dress, no sword. We've seen people in New York fire fighter dress uniforms, Canadian Navy, USCG, and USAF as well.

What service? I hear the new AF dress uniforms look like something from Star Wars: better than the leisure suit thing they had previously.

LOL! :lmao:

he still has the "leisure suit!" i don't know if or when those prototype dress uniforms they spoke of a couple years ago will be coming out. but yeah, the AF's are definitely more business suit than swoon-worthy. ;) they certainly are no comparison to the marine dress & cracker jack sailor uniforms. oh well, i still love my AF man, silly dress uniform & all.
