Question of the Week

What is your ideal (localish) evening? ie--you are planning an evening (or afternoon or whatever) out. This can be a splurge--you don't care if tickets to whatever it is you want to do are high. But, no fair hopping a plane to WDW or Vegas, etc (now if you live nearby:rolleyes1) So, when you have the time and the money what is it you really like to do if you get to plan for YOUR OWN ENJOYNMENT (will you take in a ball game, a movie, a concert, stay home, play golf . . .)???

me: If we were local, going out to dinner at our favorite Chinese restaurant, our girls are now into sushi. then renting a movie.

or going to an amusement park, I love the roller coasters and the different foods all day.

the kids all said going to Rinky Dink. it is a local mini golf place with bumper boats, go-karts, jumpers etc. We did this last year. it was a great family outing.

Dh would pick going to a Steeler game. his favorite outing. a louge box too of course. :)

Ours is when we are down the beach taking the boat out later in the day or early evening and just enyjoying the bay when there aren't alot of other boats out there:cloud9: :cloud9: it can be so relaxing when you are one of the only people out on the bay.

Jason and I are likely to have very similar answers....our ideal evening is one in which we both get out of work at a decent hour (which is very rare for us...Jason generally has to work until nearly 7 most nights....and my schedule is utter chaos...especially during the summer when, in addition to my full time job, I have my cheerleaders to deal with every day as we prep for tryouts and the fall season....so this summer I have been generally not getting home until 10pm or later almost every day of the week! :scared: )....anyhow....we both get home at a decent hour, we get take-out from our favorite Veit-Thai restuarant here in Rochetser (called Mamasan's) and then we lay on the couch in our pajamas under a blanket eating and watching movies----preferably something scary or sci-fi or supernatural of some kind.

OK....I've done it! FE gifts are all squared away :) I told Reese about the FE and the surprises and he can't wait.

On our last cruise, I had packed a little surprise for each morning, from Mickey, so now the FE surprises will take the place of that. One less thing I have to worry about...now Reese will know there are friends all over the boat who are bringing surprises!!!

GREAT idea about the FE Club to prevent stealing. I would be sooooo sad if ours was taken. Luckily, our says "The Williams Family" but that's still a common name!

Question for our friends...
If we put up a US map (sorry to those Canadian friends!), would you take a minute if you pass our door to mark the state you're from? I'm trying to decide if we should do this or not...we'd tally the results when we get home, locate the states on our big wall map, graph the results, etc. Is that too much work for someone passing by?

WATERPROOF CAMERA housing question....since I can't find the comments about that vinyl waterproof camera housing..would someone mind telling me what it's called or the website again? Sorry  I can't find the comments about it, and I want one!

Have a great Saturday all!

we would love to do this and I would even mark the town we live in for you so that you can talk about the different places people live. We are actually giving something pertaining to Cajun Culture as our fish extender gifts so you guys who home school can use it in a lesson if you want to later on ;) Ok..I don't home school but my mom works for the local elementary school and needless to say I'm one of those people who always try to give something that can be fun and educational at the same time.

Welcome to DVC.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 We bought our membership on the Magic this past New Years Eve cruise. Thinking about buying more points this cruise will see what they offer. We are on the 3 day special Magic cruise before the 27th cruise and we are using our DVC points to pay for that:cool1: :cool1:

Maureen

Indeed....welcome to DVC!! Jason and I have 200 points at Saratoga and 210 points at AKL. We have purchased both of our DVC contracts aboard a Disney ship. Our first we bought on a 4 night aboard the Wonder a couple years ago...and our second we bought aboard the Magic last year on the TransAtlantic.

It looks like the deal you got was pretty good...having access to those "free" AKL points AND the deferred maintenance fees is definitely an appealing incentive......but honestly the "deal" you get at purchase is just icing and, frankly, it pales in comparison to the value you'll find once you've started vacationing with DVC.

Our DVC membership is one of my and Jason's most prized possessions (second, probably, only to our home). We are so happy we bought....we definitely feel like it was a sound investment because it has afforded us the opportunity to take more and longer vacations than we normally would have and to access better accommodations than we would if we were paying cash out of pocket. Not to mention the fact that owning DVC kind of "guarantees" that you'll get a little bit of vacation pixie dust every year.....and for those of us who are complete disney-philes THAT is a feeling that rivals true zen! :lmao: :lmao: No matter how stressed I am at work or with life in the real world I can go to the happy place in my head and know that my next Disney vacation is NEVER more than a year away.....and it's often far less than that (since Jason and I typically try to squeeze in at least 2 trips a year!:thumbsup2 )

Crissi!!! For just getting started in this graphic business, you've done an awesome job!! At first I thought you were using the same picture of the Magic as one of mine, but once I looked at mine, I realized it's different.

Here's an unveiling of one of ours!

Okay.....I have to share my favorite one, too!!! :goodvibes .....

Can I ask where you got the sandcastle? I've been trying to find that one and haven't had any luck with it.

This would be easy...dinner at the Melting Pot with DH since he has to talk to me for 2-3 hours without a computer or TV near by and then a movie (nope not necessary a 'chick flick' dinner would be tourture enough for him). DS at mom and dad's so I don't have to worry about him with a sitter and quiet time. yep..perfect evening. Either this or the wine tastings at the local Bavarian Resturant which are always fun.

Brilliant idea with the sheet protector!!! I never even thought of that!

The 1'x2' sheet has wax paper on the top that you peel back and stick your paper on. The key is that you don't want to pull all the wax paper off. start with like 2" peeled back, position your paper so it's square on the magnet, then slowly peel the wax paper off as you apply the paper down.

WOW ~ I like this idea.......that way you do not waste your magnetic sheet if it printed wrong. Thanks:thumbsup2

I got it from one of the WONDERFUL creative DISign people's PhotoBucket. I don't remember who, so I'll just post the blank for you here.

Agreed! I had purchased one box of the three sheets, and honestly, 2 of them skidded through the printer. It was a nice laserjet from work, too. Not a cheapo machine. Thankfully one of them was with my sephia-toned picture I posted, so that's not too noticable. The other one was ruined. So I ended up having to glue another page on top of what printed off. I then had excess from all three pages that I had to throw away, but if that space could have all been together like you can have with the long sheet, I could have used it for our nametags or Mickey ears.

QOTW:

I would have to say dinner at our favorite Japanese restaurant, Kyotos, at the sushi bar with my DH, and then a scary movie at the theatre.

My DH would say something extremely ROMANTIC, like............watch the Greenbay Packers play the Seattle Seahawks at Qwest Field or Happy Hour at the local Sports Bar :sad2: :confused3 :rotfl: Gotta love him though

Ok....we still don't have a room number...I'm anxious about this, not because I don't think we'll have a room, but rather because I REALLY want to know our room number so that I can go check it out. I just keep trying to tell myself though that we are on this vacation to relax and while some rooms will be better than others, this is Disney and no room is going to be horrible.

QOTW:

Hmmm..this one is an easy one for me and my DH :lovestruc ...we get all gussied up :groom: and head to dinner at a swanky/posh restuarant (ie - Capital Grill/Grill 116/Flemings, etc) and have cocktails followed by a very nice and quiet dinner without interruption from our beautiful DS (mind you no dinner rolls - or any food for that matter - will be thrown tonight).

After that...well...this is a 'G' site...right? :lmao:

Hi from Cocoa Beach friends!! Reese is in 7th heaven because Cocoa Beach has Spongebob Squarepants on TV too:lmao: and Jeff is napping and I should be resting, but Reese can reach the deadbolt on the hotel patio door & open it, so I just can't go to sleep. Accidents can happen too easily, you know? Even though he's 5 and is a good rule follower, I still won't take a chance. :confused3 Hello. My name is Heather & I'm a Helicopter Mom!:hippie:

I LOVE all the magnet photos you all have shared. Question...where did you start your search for magnets? I was only going to do our initials that I bought at the store, some cute face magnets I made, and our DD logo, but now I want more! However, I don't know how to find all those background (except for the sandcastle one which I saw posted here!).

Anyone willing to spill the beans would be on my Favorite Person List :woohoo:

is there too?!! Cool, mom!! {hehe}

I don't blame you for not falling asleep. New places create curiosity inbetween SBSP episodes! Sorry you're not getting the rest you said you needed though. I hope you have a wonderful time!! Let us know if anything fun happens besides a SBSP siting!

I spent HOURS and HOURS going through some of the threads from these creative souls. This is absolutely something I would become addicted to doing if I had the right software to really manipulate the graphics. Most of what I have I personalized on my own. I think the exceptions are my Pirate Night magnet and the CM nametags (like what you see in my avatar).

So while you're trying to stay awake, you might want to browse through the following sites that I bookmarked. I had KristineN's PhotoBucket bookmarked, but it looks like she's made it private now. I recall her saying that she quit making signs because someone started selling her work on eBay. So when she regained some spirit to make them again, she would not put any blanks out there. You had to ask her to make them for you.

Here are some of the creative threads I would suggest looking into as well:

Thank you for posting this....it reminded me. I finished printing and cutting all the lanyard name badges yesterday (Sunday.....YEAH!!!  ) and am now in the process of sorting and organizign them for distribution.

On my current spreadsheet are still a number of gty travel parties with no room numbers yet. I know that DCL should start assigning some stateroom #'s in the very near future.....so if you are on my lanyard list and you were a gty....please be sure to keep checking for when you get a room # and once you get it, send it to me so that I can make sure I have it documented.

Shell---

I'm sure you COULD use vinyl clings since they're not permanent...HOWEVER...my fear woudl be that they won't stay up. In order for those to work doesn't the surface have to be perfectly smooth and clean? I honestly can't recall if the doors are smooth enough for a vinyl static cling thing to actually adhere or not.

Actually, Erik ... not these. :) They work really well on the walls in my house. They aren't the kind that go on windows (although they could ...), but the kind that places use for signs or removable shapes on walls of kids' nurseries. Does that make sense?? They go on easily and come off easily, too.

So I took a plunge and bought Disney Vacation Club.

sure seems like a good deal, I have to say that buying DVC was the best decision we ever made, for a lot of the same reasons Erik and Jason stated:thumbsup2 WE LOVE the accomodations, love have the vacation every year, love sharing with friends and family, Dh's dad is coming with us in Jan 2010:)

I am a bit of a helicopter mom, but I am trying to ease up, DD(9.5) wont have sign out privdledges on the cruise.

I was going to put up a bunch of link for magnets but I see Kimberly beat me too it:) I am having so much fun making magnets that I am even making them for our Secret Mickey:)
