I think they go on sale May 1, but I'm not sure.

I never heard that you could check in at the hotel unless you do land and sea. Do you have to use Disney transport to check in at the hotel, and is it limited to specific resorts? We're staying at CR before, but planning on leaving early for the port and using a van service.

Thanks
Julie

I don't know how do do the quote thing, but Julie wrote:

You know, I am not sure. We are not doing the formal Land and Sea package, but we are using the Magical Express transportation. We have always used Magical Express and it has worked out great. I don't know if check in at the hotel with DCL is conditioned on using Magical Express or not. It may be, because once you check in with DCL they tell you when to leave your bags outside of your room and they end up in your stateroom on the ship without you having to do anything. I could ask for you.

As far as hotels, no. You can only check in with DCL at hotels where the DCL bus picks up. If CR is the Contemporary, the answer is no. We wanted to stay there but the DCL bus does not pick up there so we would have had to move our bags to either the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian (these are the closest hotels to the Contemporary that DCL picks up at. So we just switched hotels. We stayed at Carribean Beach resort last time and were able to both check in with DCL and catch the bus there. Most of the Delux and Moderates have this, but not all.

Hope that helps.

doug46, isn't it Magical Express from the airport, and DCL transfer from a Disney resort to the ship (or the Orlando airport)? I just don't want people to miss the fact they need to pay $69 per person for the transfer to the boat, and the ride from the airport to the Poly is free.

If you are doing a 7 night cruise and staying at a DCL designated hotel the night before, and purchase Disney bus transfers, you can only check your luggage ahead to get to the ship. You do not actually check in for the 7 night cruise, you do that at the port. We stayed at the BCV the night before our 09/07 cruise and purchased Disney bus transfers. We did this because we did not want to carry our luggage from WDW to Port. It worked out well for us, 2 couples, and our luggage showed up in our cabin. The only negative issue is that you don't leave WDW until after 11:30AM. We had booked all our reservations, Palo, etc online so we didn't have to make any changes at the Port. We arrived around 1:30PM, no line at check-in, and we just walked onto the ship.
We did check in at the cruise desk the morning before, and they checked us off and told us what time to have our luggage ready for pick up in our rooms the next morning.. We met in the DVC solarium and then got on the bus.\

Update: We only purchased one-way transfers @$30 per person. They have since gone up but we were locked in at the old price. We rented a mini-van from Thrifty for our return to WDW and airport.

Last year I really checked into this and you can check in at the resort if you are doing a land & sea package, or if DCL booked your rooms. When I mean check in I mean doing all the checking in. You by pass all the waiting in line at the port. But you can only do this if you book the rooms through DCL and if you stay at one of the Land and sea resorts. If you are staying at a land and sea resort you can take the DCL transport to the port and you can check in for the bus at the resort. You must check in at least one day before so they know to pick up your luggage and then again the day of to check your documentation.

I am staying at Pop. Also have opted to save money to use Fl Tours. This is my 1st time but they have a very good reputation.

The Magical Express is from the airport to the WDW. DCL provides transport at a cost from the airport and from the resorts. Like I said, I am taking Fl Tours from Pop this year because the DCL just does not get to the port early enough for me. Not to metion we are saving some money

I hope this all makes sense. Lois

Jason and I are still figuring out what we want to do regarding transfers to the port, too. We have to check in at the port regardless. We aren't planning on renting a car for this trip so we're doing it one of two ways:

1.) Booking the DCL transfers from AKL....or...

2.) Possibly going in on a one way rental van and sharing it with some of our other friends who will be there like Chris and Rob or Hadley's bunch....

we're still figuring it all out ourselves, too.

In the past we have often rented a car for the WDW portion of the trip and when we do that what we do is book the car to return to MCO airport early the morning of the cruise and book a DCL transfer from the airport to the port as if we had a flight landing there that morning. They take your luggage from you at the airport and then you're set. Our cruise next year with my parents in May that is what we'll certainly do.

There are now just 4 days left to get your lanyard info to Hadley!!!

For details read on:

Double Dip Delight Customized Lanyards
icescream.gif

On the day of our cruise departure, you can receive your own Double Dip Delight customized lanyard and personalized name badge. (Here's a big thanks to Erik (tig82174) and Hadley (NHDisneylover) for designing the lanyards and producing the name badges for us!)

In order to receive them, Erik and Hadley do need your real first name and stateroom number**. As we move through the 1st quarter of 2008, they will be privately contacting those of you who have already registered with me. At that time, they will request that you confirm you want to receive the lanyards and request action on your part. If they do not hear back from you with a confirmation BY APRIL 1, lanyards will not be ordered for your party. So please help them out and ensure you'll have this special keepsake by responding to them.

In summary, here's what you need to do as confirmation you want lanyards:
  • Send an email with the word "LANYARD" in the subject line to DoubleDip09-2008@hotmail.com (your email addy will not be accessible to anyone but Hadley, Erik, and me nor distributed to anyone else). Include the following 3 pieces of info in your email:
[*][*]DISboard Name to appear on the badge
[*]Real First Name(s) for EACH PERSON wearing the lanyard (don't forget your non-DISboard friends and family)
[*]Stateroom Number of your party (so we have somewhere to deliver the badges; if you are GTY, mention that and Hadley/Erik will contact you closer to cruise date for your assigned cabin number)
What's this cost you? Nothing!!! There will be no cost for these as there are a handful of Disney-like DISers cruising with us who volunteered to donate funds to make this memento happen for anyone who wants to join in the "Lanyard Club". In appreciation for their generosity, the contributors will be noted on the back of your name badge. Of course there are other cruisers who are not DISers who would LOVE to have our lanyard for free, so it's important that you register yourself and those you may have recruited to cruise with us; otherwise, if someone is not on the Lanyard List, they will not receive one. So ensure you are signed up with me/Hadley and that you seek out Erik (tig82174) and/or Hadley (NHDisneylover) on Saturday, September 27 at a predetermined location and time (to be announced later) to pick up your souvenir!!

The name badges will look similiar to this one, with the DIS Name written below the real name.

Read more about the lanyards at http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=23062263&postcount=86!

**[BTW, the reason for your cabin number being required is simply to ensure you receive your lanyard. Erik and Hadley want to start their vacation with their families ASAP, too, and we know some of you may be unable to meet up with them at the the posted time(s). Therefore, in the event you miss eachother, Hadley, Marika (Hadley's DD), and Erik will bring them to your room's fish or door knob later on Saturday.

Please be at peace knowing your cabin number will not be printed on your removable name tag or given to anyone else. For this Lanyard Team initiative, the three of us are the only ones who will have access to your cabin number.]

Thanks Lois for clearing that up. With a price of 69 pp roundtrip, it's not worth it for us to do the DCL transfer, and it was mentioned that Contemporary isn't one of the hotels where they pick up anyway.

I think we're going to go with Florida Tours and have them pick us up in a van, deliver us to the Contemporary, then pick us up there and take us to the port, then from the port to the airport after the cruise. It's expensive, but I think the convenience will be worth it. Also- they provide car seats/boosters, so I don't have to lug both of ours.

Julie

Fizzgig, you may be right, last time we did this we were actually doing the Land and Sea package. I know I asked my TA, who is fantastic, about this and she indicated we could check in for the cruise at the Polynesian just like we did last time. In fact, she mentioned we will want to have completed our Customs cards, if necessary, before we went down to the desk.

Skoi, I am not sure what time the bus leaves the hotel for the Port. We always go to Animal Kingdom inthe morning for the safari and bird show and catch the bus from there. it leaves around noon. I have never seen any reason to get tot he port any earlier than we have in the past as i book everything on-line.

I agree, the Magical Express/DCL Transportation is a little more. But I just tell my TA what we want, she books it all, and it has all worked out perfectly in the past. I want no stress involved in the planning and am willing to pay a little more to have it taken care of for me. That is of course why i like the idea of checking in for the cruise at the port. So now I need to llok into that. Sorry if mispellings appear, I am at work and can't proof read.

Thanks doug46.

We've had a huge issue trying to book Palo on-line, especially tea and brunch. Though if we get five more people for our brunch group it won't be an issue and we can get the private room. I'm really looking forward to doing tea this trip, since it'll be 5 months into the deployment, and I think a nice afternoon without the Horde will be in order. IF I can get the two littlest ones to stay in the club. If not- well :scared1: At least they're potty trained and can go swimming.

Julie

Skoi,

This will be our first time trying to get Palo reservations. If I can't get them on-line, I probably will just forget about it rather than rush around trying to make them when we board. What I have never experienced, I guess I can't miss. Have a good weekend.

Does anyone know weree I can get a look at Palo Menus? I saw all the other restraunts menus but not Palo.

We are trying to decide if we want to do it, and if so do we want Brunch. Since people have raved about brunch and I love crab legs...isnt that on Brunch. Not to mention it would be easier with the kids. Give them breakfast check them in to the Kids Club and go to brunch.

Thanks for the info

You can get them at castawayclub. They might be old. Don't know if I can list the website, if not, sorry.

If you're interested in joining our group brunch, just pm me your names, cabin number (I need it to make the reservation) and which sea date works best for you. You can still make individual reservations for the other day, but we're hoping to get 12 people to reserve the private room for brunch. I loved the brunch when we went last time. Love dinner too, but without dh, I'd end up eating alone.

Hadley I saw this on the news it is just a terrible tragedy!

Hadley, so sorry to hear about the fire! That is scary. My 5 year old always talks about fires. He is always afraid there is going to be on in the house. I don't want to scare him, but at the same time I want him to know NOT to hide in the house if there is one.

We wont be able to do it pre cruise but we(I) am thinking about doing it October 5 and flying home on October 6. I have to call the kids school and see how many vacation days they will excuse, they will have already missed 5 when we are cruising, whats one more right?:rotfl:

BTW, I have to write a note explaining how this is educational, I know A LOT of you have a GREAT way with words, wanna help me write it? Maybe we can all use the same letter:laughing: Vacation time is when I wish I had the patience to homeschool!

Have you talked with the school? I don't know if it's the same everywhere, but at my sons school we put him on home studies. You just let the teacher know a couple weeks in advance so they can get all the work for the kids. I did that a couple years ago when my son was in 1st grade. I don't know how it's going to be now that he is older and will have more work. That's the last thing he is going to want to do on vacation.. me too! :sad2:

Oh and some of you were saying you booked your flights. I just did too. I was getting stressed looking everyday so I just did it. We are flying United. Anybody else flying from L.A or Denver?

We are flying from LAX. We arrive in LA at lunchtime on 22nd Sept (too late to connect to any flights unless we wait at the airport for 10 hours :scared1: ). We fly to MCO on the 23rd (mid morning). Flying United as they are a partner airline of Air NZ.

I was going to look through all the posts, but I'm lazy.

Are there going to be any teenage girls sailing? Dd will be 14 and she's bugging me about a pen pal. I guess boys around the same age would be good, as well. She likes sports and Shonen Jump manga, and is a little bit of a geek. Though she says she's a nork (a nerd-dork).

So if anyone 12-14 or so wants a pen pal, let me know.

You are hardly lazy! No way you would get that info...that's why we have a database! LOL

There are a total of 12 other young ladies in the age range you asked about.

  • six 12 year olds
  • six 14 year olds

Hopefully one will be interested in becoming pen pals with your DD14. Have you also had her signed up for the Kids' Meets thread? If you're not familiar with it, check out Post #6. There's a link in my siggy or go to Page 1 of this new DDD thread.

You don't want to miss Palo!!!! I belive we can book around July 14th, but do it right away, don't wait till the day after like I did last year. I couldn't get the time slot I wanted and I missed a few minutes of "The Golden Mickey's".

If you order the Disney Cruise Line DVD it gives a a list of all the food at all the restaurants, including Palo. It gives other info about the ship too.
