John and I attended the 10 am Doorway to Dreams Travel Show this morning and had a fantastic time! I know others have posted about it here on the DIS, but I tell you I ALMOST caved in and bought more points!

The incentives are good not only at BLT, but also at SSR and AKV! I was tempted by the 200 point add on option. You were offered $5 per point credit ($112 price per point) which can be used as the down payment! All current members are preapproved for financing. Your payments will not begin until May 2009!

This 200 point option also includes (besides the $1,000 credit) a 7 night Disney Cruise for 4 in an Oceanview Stateroom! Plus, a 7 night RCI stay in a one or two bedroom unit! Also, 4 tickets to Mary Poppins which is coming soon to the Chicago Cadillac Theatre!

I will be honest, I almost caved in. I have been holding out for Grand Californian Villas, but this was soooo tempting! Now if only they had offered those points for GCV.....

We were there too. We did add on 250 points. (But we intended too even if the DW to Dreams show had never happened.) We were pleased to have the extra incentives.

I can't wait to get something in my hands that describes it more and lets us start booking he cruise and exchange. Fun, fun, fun!

Congratulations to you! I am still mulling it over here, lol. BLT would be my choice of the 3 offered. But those GCV villas, well I just don't know....

dh and i attended with our 2 sons. it was a great time! we almost caved and added on. the best part was i surprised my dh, i told them it was his birthday and they called it out to everybody, boy was he imbearised (sp?):rotfl2: , it was great. the ds's had a great time, the food was good also. an all around great disney day! congrates to the family that won the trip. can't wait until the next one.:thumbsup2

Did it seem like many people were adding on or were most people just taking in the events?

There were definitely many adding on! We hung around for the festivities after the show, and enjoyed the dance music while we munched on goodies. There was still a good many people about 45 mins after the show waiting to speak with a Guide. They were offering folks beepers so they could go back and party while waiting for an available Guide. The room was full of them with clients, and they had an RCI desk set up with two representatives from there.

we waited to say hi to our guide and ask a couple of questions and we had to wait about 25 minutes. my opinion is that a lot of people were adding on. the room was full, but then again, maybe people were doing what we did, just asking questions.

We had absolutely NO intention of adding on. I knew we would eventually need more points but dh was dead set against it. So like a dutiful wife I sent every Red Shirted DVC castmember away. Then as we are packing up to go, dh says, "What do you think, should we add on?"

Are you kidding me??? OF COURSE we should add on! 10 minutes later the deed was done... I kid you not, 10 minutes and we were out in the mall on our way to the Disney Store 100 points richer :) We added on at AKV our home resort, but we wandered up to DTD to see the models and changed our minds. I have a call in to our guide to change it to BLT already! I'm too fickle for my own good. I'm also going to try to split them into 2 50 point contracts.

Beside that, we had an amazing time. My kids loved it. DD got some great alone time with Tink since we were sitting up there with my disabled dad. Then Tink totally flirted with my dad at the end! The dance party was so fun, my 3 year old ds with autism really tried to follow along and wanted to dance with all the kids. It was a FANTASTIC day.

Carol, was that you in the front row? I heard the guide call someone Carol and thought of you immediately.

Can't wait to hear who else caved and added on.

Congratulations on the add on Karen! I would go for BLT myself..

YES! That was me in the front row, LOL! We cruised the Med in 2007 with Dave and have seen him at several events since then. John and I were there together and had a really great time.

Thanks Carol! We were thinking keeping all our points at AKV would make it less complicated. But after seeing the models (they are so much nicer in person than in pictures!) and hearing the reminder that there are less than 300 villas at BLT shocked me into the reality that non-owners may never get Magic Kingdom view there. I don't know that I'll book MK view often... but I really want to do it at least once or twice.

This was our first even at DTD (we were actually in WDW during the August event and that's when we purchased!) and I was so impressed. We will be going back to future events whenever possible. Thanks to all on the board that posted about it. Maybe we'll meet more of you in the future!

Speaking of which there was a really nice family eating lunch at Rain Forest when we were there... I should have asked if they were DIS'ers! If you are reading... HI!

We just bought 210 points at AKV in january right before the price went, that goes with the 210 SSR points we already had. And here is my wife asking me if we should add on another 100 points this morning. I always thought it would be me wanting more points. I guess she has till tomorrow to make up her mind :)

Karen,

We were at Rain Forest eating lunch and I think we talked to you. We had two of our sons with us and you told us that you added on today. Was that you? We live in Oswego and also have a son with Autism who is 6. We are thinking about adding on tomorrow so that we can get the free cruise too.

Yes! That was us... I kept thinking I should stop by your table before we left, but I had my hands full with my 3 year old and after our bathroom break I made a run for it before checking if you were still there.

We live in Plainfield!! So close...isn't it a small world? I have a 6 year old NT daughter and my 3.5 year old son. Hubby and I were with my parents, we take them with us when we vacation.

You know what else was funny? I noticed that we have the EXACT same Coach purse. Of course mine was stuffed with diapers, wipes and fruit snacks... so you're lucky I didn't sneak over and trade you :)

We did switch to BLT tonight for our add on... are you going back tomorrow, or just calling in?

Good luck! PM me if you want :) It was so nice to meet you!

Karen

Karen,

This is a small world! I'm glad my son pointed you out at Rain Forest and told me that you were at the Disney Event. I will e-mail you.

We were sitting right in front of you guys today at the event (and I think right behind Carol!). You and your DH were so funny. You were just CRACKING UP when they called your DH out for being the bday boy! We all had a great time too. Tink was so adorable. The dancing was a great idea too. I even thought Wish Meister was pretty darn funny!

Oh, and we are the family that won the RCI trip. Thanks for the congrats. We were SO, SO excited abt it. ANd our kids freaked out to when we went to pick them up at the kids room. But when we got home and went to the RCI website to check out the possibilities, there were extremely few options. And we're talking Canada in December options (I'm not kidding abt that either!). I don't want to sound completely ungrateful, but we were really excited to win (as you saw! My DH literally LEAPT out of his chair and spilled water all over:rotfl: !), but then to see what's actually available as the prize was really disappointing. My DH says we just need to keep looking and checking everyday and see if anything decent opens up, but I feel a little scammed. SInce it's RCI though and not necessarily Disney who is providing the trip, I have a sinking feeling it's going to end up being a big disppointment.

We arrived earlier this afternoon and are going to the Sun evening one... after reading all of this I'm excited. I know that my DW doesn't "want" to add on right now... but maybe, just maybe we will... who knows. :rolleyes1 I don't have my hopes up, but perhaps with the atmosphere of it all, we will... :cool2: I'm looking forward to my DD being able to see Tink - and the mice of course, but Tink definitely. Hopefully there will be some cookies left over for all of us Sun night folk! :rotfl:

I hope that they'll do something fun for my wife, like your DH Stinkerbell, since it's her birthday tomorrow... I'm definitely going to make sure they know.

Glad you all had a good time today - my turn tomorrow. :)

Have fun tomorrow night! I'm sure they'll pick on her for her birthday :)

Tink was really fantastic!! She worked hard to make my little boy comfortable for a pic, she made my dd feel like she was an old friend (and of course Abby feels like she had a personal relationship with Tink, so that was perfect!) and then she spent a fair amount of time harassing my disabled father and husband while we were off dancing. She kept hiding behind my dad's head and playing with his hair. Too funny! As I made my way back to that section and she was getting ready to leave... she gave my little guy another smooch on the way out. She was definitely one of the highlights for us, your dd is going to love her!

We'll be sending pixie dust your way!

Are there restrictions on the RCI prize or is the availability issue what we will face trying to use the incentive RCI trip?

Hopefully it's just on the prize. I was wondering abt that myself. Some friends of ours bought 160 pts at BLT and got the 7 day RCI trip as well. But I think they said during the presentation that the incentive trip included a trip from the Passport Collection, so I am guessing that selection will be ok. I don't think they made any such announcement regarding the prize for the drawing.

I'm going to keep hoping that it's just a matter of waiting for things to become available for the prize trip.

how long are these incentives in the table for and heard a few others complain about seat location for mary poppins, sick dd held us out sounds like we missed a local disney hold over til our next trip...
