Don't understand. Please explain...

Once again...missing the point.

(As a generally rule, finding one comment out of 12 that you can have a respond to in some manner is not a real response)

Anyway - obviously know they have the soldiers that's why I mentioned them. But it's not just them alone every half hour with militaristic music blaring... (and ps. Those are at least the good guys, right?)
No, it is just the green army men. Forget how often they do it but it's often, several times a day. No matter how you want to spin it by saying they are the good guys you really lost the argument when you said "Interestingly if every 30 minutes they had a similar parade with 30 green faceless American soldiers coming down the street. I don't think anyone would watch it." because they do have a parade with green faceless American Soldiers coming down the street and people do watch it. Just what was your point?

Bottom line, ever heard of seeing way more in to something than it is? Well, this is that. You are projecting way more in to the March of the First Order than it is. Somethings are just not that deep.

This theme park is based on movies which most of the time are make believe. Maybe they will make some safe spaces for park goers to scurry to so they don't get offended my the storm troopers marching down the center of a movie based theme park. HS doesn't have much going on for it right now so they have to push Star Wars a lot for the next 2 years.

When Star Wars land is built I really hope there is a lot of interaction with characters through out the land. I would love to be eating at the cantina and have some storm troopers come to the table and ask if I have seen these droids, or if they have a blaster go off and the music stops, or walking through the park and a jedi walks up to my family as some storm troopers come up to us and the jedi says these aren't the droids your looking for, move along.. and if things like this will scare you or your kids then maybe this wont be the park to come to.

They also scare me. I know that I'm ridiculous, but I avoid them as well. (I'm not saying that the Stormtroopers or Toy Soldiers should not be in the parks because I'm scared.)

In my opinion, its not ridiculous. What I DO find ridiculous is berating the OP, and those who might agree, for their take...which just happens to offend the Disney apologists. Not that I find it uncommon, as it happens to most who post negative takes on their Disney experiences. I just find it sad.

I respect your opinion...(of the 1 out of 12 points you commented on and think that makes a whole reaction) what about the other points about location, frequency etc...

I do appreciate the debate though and it really is all in fun. We all love Disney in different ways.

I did have to laugh at I'm "projecting more into the "March of the first Order" than it is.

Anyway for all that get the common sense points about location, frequency, loudness and history - thanks.

And you are not ridiculous by being scared of them. Not at all. At least I don't think so. We can often not help what scares us. What we can do is work around it, which it seems you have. You (not you specifically) can't expect others to make changes based on things that scare you

I didn't comment on the other 12 points individually because it was all summed up in that you are reading way more in to the march than it is. There are no nefarious meanings to the March of the First Order at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
As for the bold, what about them? They march to the center stage area. There is a Star Wars show on the center stage area. What's wrong with that? Where should they be? Disney is trying with a park that is being transformed.

I am a massive Star Wars fan myself and don't quite get how the First Order march fits into the Parks fully as well. I consider it a little bit boring as a show because it is Military Marching and that is it. There are people who prefer the First Order over the Resistance (yes those are the terms in new Canon). It is mostly because Star Wars fans are really interested in seeing the stormtroopers do formal marching.

If you want a good understanding of Star Wars itself, I would suggest watching Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular. It does an excellent job through the projections in explaining the Star Wars Mythos along with the film in the Old Sounds Dangerous theater.

The only connection I made is Captain Phasma and the Storm Troopers are really popular characters. Partly, I believe, because they have a lot of humor in them. People enjoy watching them, even if the show isn't really much of a show. It's a stretch and shows just how desperate folks are for Star Wars anything. I thought overall it was neat but I wouldn't rush to see it over and over again.

I'm struck by the way this conversation has unfolded.

I have never found "you're reading too much into it" to be a satisfying response to concerns that are raised, regardless of the situation being described. Who gets to decide what is "too much", anyway? I would never accuse someone of "reading too little into it," as there's no way to know what that would even mean.

I "read to much into things" for a living. I happen to like doing it. My hunch is that sometimes (sometimes!) people get defensive about this idea of "reading too much into it" because if they really did stop to consider what's being suggested, they might have to stop doing or liking something they've not previously questioned. At the very least they'd have to rethink their relationship to a thing they've never questioned. Change is hard, and we turn to Disney to get away from the hard parts of life.

It's just that not everyone has that luxury.

No need to label those who question in this way as easily offended or in need of a safe space. Though why feeling safe is suddenly something to be mocked is quite confusing to me.

Darkside/StarWars fan here and I think its super fun. Its not like that movie Wizards, or recreating propaganda footage from the cold war.

You can go through that whole park and find something that scares someone or offends someone, Its the movies.

Fantastic point.

I mean, Splash Mountain can be taken a lot of ways, especially if you consider the source material, but again, just like Star Wars, its MAKE BELIEVE. It doesn't detract from the joy of the ride because its not real.

My fear is if only a few people complain, something that a large number of people enjoy will be changed to try and placate the few. It happens all the time. And is very sad, imho.

If you don't like something, move on. But please don't complain that because you find it scary that it is inherently "wrong" and should be changed. As I said before if they had to take away or modify every single thing a child or adult found scary there would be any Disney parks.

The Storm Troopers are not trying to emulate the Nazis or North Koreans. Leave it to the Dis to make this correlation :rotfl:

Yes they are.

love Disney and like Sleeping Beauty just fine...

But at MK and the stage show with Maleficent coming on the stage with pounding aggressive music (scary to young ones) seems very satanic as she appears on stage (similar to the devil)
He is the bad guy right?

What is the attraction to all this??

Don't get it.

And doesn't seem to fit into what Disney is all about.

Am I just missing something?

Satan is pretend. maleficent was an evil witch, also pretend. Nazi Germany was not pretend.

It was pretty cool when they blasted that kid that tried to run across the street in front of the parade.

Pretty cool to aim a weapon, although it's a fake one, at a kid? Seriously? And pretend to shoot him?

I work with a student who was a child soldier. Storm Troopers would scare the life out of him. Just the idea of where they came from would be horrific, as he has lived that life. I guess I'm thankful that he will probably never be able to afford/handle Disney World.

I'm sorry if I missed this, are Storm Troopers being compared to Nazis? The way the word "march" keeps being typed in quotations makes me think so.

edit - just saw above post. Yes, they are being compared to Nazis. Military has been marching in formation since the Romans, longer, thousands of years. Bad guys and good guys. My boyfriend said he spent 3 months in boot camp marching in formation for the Marines.

Most sane people will not think Disney is making some sort of Nazi statement. They are showcasing Storm Troopers, a huge part of Star Wars...the land they are building?

You know what, maybe Storm Troopers are meant to emulate Nazi Germany, because they were both evil empires. Okay then?

Except they are a fictitious and are from a galaxy far, far away....

And super easy to avoid if they are something you don't like. And they won't hurt you as they are play-acting.
