Don't understand. Please explain...

Brown shirts and Storm Detachment equal Storm Troopers???? Disney's Storm Troopers look nothing like the Nazi version.

This whole discussion has gone off the deep end. You can make anything offensive if you try hard enough is all it has proven to me.

You know what, maybe Storm Troopers are meant to emulate Nazi Germany, because they were both evil empires. Okay then?

Except they are a fictitious and are from a galaxy far, far away....

George Lucas actually says they are highly inspired by Nazis. Now I don't think the fact they are highly inspired means Disney is suddenly saying Nazis are okay by having them.

Satan is pretend. maleficent was an evil witch, also pretend. Nazi Germany was not pretend.

Many will disagree with you on the first point. Malificent? Okay. But the poster quoted was not talking about Nazis. They were talking about SW characters who are pretend, even though certain aspects of their creation was inspired by Nazis.

OP keeps saying "militaristic" in describing the March of the First Order. I'm not really sure how to take that. The stormtroopers are military. The music is the same as what is played in the films. Is "militaristic" a derogatory term?

My fear is if only a few people complain, something that a large number of people enjoy will be changed to try and placate the few. It happens all the time. And is very sad, imho.

If you don't like something, move on. But please don't complain that because you find it scary that it is inherently "wrong" and should be changed. As I said before if they had to take away or modify every single thing a child or adult found scary there would be any Disney parks.

I'm assuming you're not deliberately misreading me, and rather that I'm just not making my point clearly enough. No one - least not me - is asking that something be taken away. No one - least not me - is asking to eliminate all scary things from life. No one - least not me - is calling anything inherently wrong. In my view we're simply talking about the various meanings of an attraction/show that for some (some!) people might feel a little too much like reality and not at all like fantasy.

Children in particular have a hard time distinguishing fantasy and reality, would you agree? And isn't it possible that in this particular case that might lead to confusion about why being questioned by faceless authority figures is supposedly "fun"?

In acknowledging that, you don't have to change a thing about how you personally experience Disney. You are only being asked to imagine a set of life experiences that are different from your own. No boycotts, bans, or protests of DHS required.

Lucas has admitted he based them off of the Nazi Stormtroopers. They have to look just like them in your world to be related?

Not seeing your point - Lucas admitted to using the Nazi Storm Trooper as the basis.

And super easy to avoid if they are something you don't like. And they won't hurt you as they are play-acting.

Of course they won't 'hurt' me, but what they represent isn't really something to celebrate with a parade either, IMO. And we can get a bit immune to some truly horrific things when we glorify them.

And by comparing the Storm Troopers to Nazis I think it really downplays the horror of the true Nazis.

Thinking of what the Storm Troopers did in the movies - I was always horrified by them. I think letting the idea of SW Storm Troopers being something fun and silly, or cool to watch, actually downplays the horrors of Nazi Germany even more.

There are people who refuse to patronize Universal because they feel Harry Potter promotes the satanic arts/witchcraft etc. There will be no dissuading them that HP is trying to corrupt children. OK then.

Feel how you feel. No skin off my nose.

Yes, I addressed that up thread. It doesn't bother me because I know that Storm Troopers aren't Nazis, they are the main ground force of the Galactic Empire and who (now) serve The First Order. :p

And unfortunately for you I guess, a LOT of people think it's cool. Disney is quite literally banking on it!

Anyways, I think our conversation will go nowhere, and truly no hard feelings, so goodnight!. :)

love Disney and like Star Wars just fine...

But at HS and the parade with the storm troopers coming up the street with pounding aggressive music (scary to young ones) seems very militaristic as they march in sync (similar to our enemies)
They are the bad guys right?

What is the attraction to all this??

Don't get it.

And doesn't seem to fit into what Disney is all about.

Am I just missing something?

Pardon my candor, but yes. You are missing something.

It may not be what Disney is all about for you, but for others, it IS what Disney is all about. Different strokes for different folks, you know? How boring would this world be if we all liked the same things and had the same opinions? I don't like country bear jamboree, but I don't judge others that do, nor do I question why it's even an attraction. It's just not MY thing. I think we could actually benefit from this way of thinking and apply it to a lot of different situations in life. Agree to disagree, diversity of thought, and all that jazz.

Well, technically you can even say that a 5' Pluto dog is scary to some kids and it's presence might be upsetting. Still, don't think anyone would suggest that he be put in an area where he can't be seen by someone who is scared of him. I don't think Disney should worry with placement of characters based on someone being upset with them. It's Disney, expect characters.

I'll never forget the day when Pluto walked up behind my then 4yr old. She turned around to see this oversized dog and let out a blood curdling scream. Everyone on Main Street stopped to see who was killing a child. It took a long time before she would go near another character without being held. Then there was the time when my gr-daughter punched Mickey because he scared her.
