Fighting and disagreeing is good to get out of the system every once in a while (it's kind of cathartic), but there is a point where enough is enough and it's better to carry on (at least it has been that way for me).

Since no one in particular was being mentioned, I don't understand how feelings can get hurt. I think each of us has to look inside our own souls and decide for ourselves whether or not our actions are those of kind, caring, considerate people or actions that only serve ourselves and give us a "power trip". After all, in the end, we are all held accountable to powers higher than those of any moderator, webmaster, or even authorities in "real life".

I'd like to think that here on the DIS I act no differently than I do in real life. I think I'm kind and considerate, or at least I try to be.

Now lets see, what was the question again??? Do power hungry people drive me up the wall? I guess my answer would be sometimes, depending on the circumstances.

Colleen, Tony mentioned being called bad things behind one's back. I agree that that it is wrong to do that, but it IS hurtful when people say things that are mean, to your face.

You are right, people have to look inside themselves and maybe even look at the actions of others with open minds rather than as potentially "self-serving". I guess there are 2 sides to each situation, or is that 3 sides......his, hers and the truth?

KATHYTX- My OP has nothing to do with any MODS. It was just something that happened this weekend that made me think how unhappy power hungry people were.

I guess I must be out of the loop.

No, I was trying to say that a moderator was power hungry....I said we all have to answer to a power HIGHER than any moderator, webmaster or "real life" authority. I mentioned moderator and webmaster because THEY are the authority figures on these boards. Seems like I can't say anything right anymore!

Colleen, people here don't have to "answer to" the mods and WMs, I hope you really don't feel that way. They are just here to monitor the boards. My feeling is that posters are answerable to themselves and whatever higher power they believe in.

As far as it being related to these boards, posters are responsible for reading and agreeing to the guidelines set by the owner, and conducting themselves in accordance to those guidelines, but that doesn't mean that you have to be answerable to the WMs and mods, really. That's how I see and understand it, anyway.

Interesting thought for the day, Tony. In answer to your question, yes, power hungry people do sometimes drive me up the wallif in fact all they do care about is power. Often times though, I've found that those complaining the loudest about "power hungry" people are in fact doing so out of jealousy and/or bitterness. This is particularly true at DH's place of employment. He's a mechanical engineer.

The engineers that DH oversees are always complaining about "power hungry" bosses, my DH and his superior in particular. When DH got his promotion to engineering manager a few years back, it was no secret that one of the other engineers wanted that position in a bad way. When the other guy was passed over for the promotion in favor of DH, boy did the complaining begin. DH has since gotten another promotion and is over multiple departments and as soon as that happened the constant "power hungry" comments from a couple of the guys got even worse.

It really made for a bad working environment for everyone, even though 99% of the people he supervises think he's a great boss. Thank goodness, the guy that was so bitter about everything finally ended up finding employment elsewhere. It was probably best for everyone in the long run.

Anyway, sorry to ramble on like this, but this thread immediately brought to mind this incident.

Maybe the reason that Colleen feels this way is becasue, she feels as though she is answering to the MODS becasue sometimes when the MODS don't agree with you all of a sudden a thread gets locked, or removed, or vanishes into thin air sorta like being in the Bermuda Triangle. Or, it could be that people read things into what you are saying. Now most of you should know that if I have something to say I will say it.

1) I think Dan Murphy was given a raw deal. I also feel like a select few are doing whatever they can to get him off of these boards.

2) I have no beef with any MOD accept for 2 people.

3) I like the boards and I am not going anywhere unless I get banned like EROS and BEVERLYLYNN.

4) I don't think the rules apply for everyone, only a select few.

If I think of more I will surely post them.

Tony, you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

Here are my thoughts:
How was Dan given a raw deal? Are you still talking about the decision 2 years ago to move him to a board where it was hoped he could save it?

The people that you have a "beef" with are well aware, but still unaware of why.

Glad you like the boards. And just for the record, EROS knew he was not long for the site, he said he felt like a square peg in a round hole. I miss him, he wasn't always controversial or ornery.

The rules apply to everyone, if you don't see it that way, I'm sorry. We don't profess to be perfect, just do the best we can. Can't please everyone obviously.

There will be some changes coming to the CB soon and I hope that it will make things smoother and less cranky. The changes will be better than the alternative of shutting down the board anyway.
