Don't Make Me Sick..............

You actually don't need to by anything. DCL has free meclizine (the active ingredient in Bonine) tablets at guest services and outside medical. If you need them, they give them to you. That way, you don't need to buy what you may not need. My DD gets car sick but on three cruises (24 days total) she has only needed a tablet twice.

I have heard they have it too, but I never saw it on the Dream....but I never looked either. :rotfl:

I thought Gravol would be available in the US. Gravol works well for any kind of motion sickness. I too, will be bringing GingerAle. I find Canada Dry to be the best because it has real ginger (not flavoring) in it. (and not because I am Canadian:laughing:))

Gravol is identical to the original Dramamine, which is available in the US.

Everything they have told you to use you can. If you have meniers (As I do) the patches and all kept me from throwing up is all. After a day and a trip to the spa for a message. they did aroma theropy on me and that worked the best. I walked out of there better then ever. So it may work for you. Wish I knew why it helped but not complaining. The stablizers only work for waves hitting the length of the ship. Waves hitting the sides rock you side to side.
Enjoy your trip:goodvibes

From what I have heard, many more people worry about seasickness than have to deal with it. Our youngest DD gets carsick, but she was fine on the Magic. We had some rough sailing, too. Pools closed and no one looked sober, with everyone staggering constantly.

Hope you are all fine!

I have motion sickness. Bonine didn't make me drowsy, but it does appear that all these drugs work differently for different people. My tips:

1) Try the drugs at home. Buy whatever sounds good, take it on a day at home and see how you feel while you're busy, while you're mellow, etc. Dramamine I could sometimes do when out walking about but the moment I sat down I passed out. So try them. You don't want to be on your vacation when you find out the medicine has crappy side effects! Most of them work pretty well unless you have it bad enough to need a prescription, so it's just a matter of finding one with minimal side effects for you.

2) Keep the drug in your system the whole cruise. There is a saying that by the time you feel sick, it's too late, and that's largely true. Bonine is 24 hours so I just took one with breakfast starting the morning a full day before I embarked so it would already be in my system, and kept it up through the whole cruise. The one day I thought I didn't need it anymore I started feeling funny as we hit rough water so I high-tailed it back to the cabin to get some! Just save yourself the hassle and you won't have to worry.

Have fun!

We use either Bonine or the Safeway equivalent. We always take it right after the safety drill, before we go up on deck for the sail-away party. Never had any issues, but have routinely had calm seas, so we usually only take on the first night. I always have enough for the entire trip and have also taken ginger pills with me - just in case. They can be found at your local GNC store or its equivalent.

Have a wonderful trip!

We were on the Wonder last week. On our catamaran boat ride to Las Caletas in Puerto Vallarta I knew it would be a bumpy 40 minute ride so I gave both of my kids half of a Dramamine and I took a whole one. Neither one of us had any issues. On the Wonder my Dh and I didn't experience any motion sickness at all, but while we were tendered in Cabo the first night my DS got sick so i gave him a whole dramamine and that helped him, and the second night we were tendered my DD got sick and I gave her a whole dramamine and that helped her out.

I got motion sickness once.. on the Tilt-a-Whirl. I was sick for a whole day. The next day I had to take gravol to be able to go home in the car. I slept the whole. I don't look at the Teacup ride.

I took the patches on my first cruise. I felt fine with no sleepiness. I still use the patches when I cruise. I can't remember what they're called but I get them from the pharmacist with no problem.:thumbsup2

I take(and my DD) generic Bonine(meclazine) on the night before the cruise and each night before bed as needed. That way it is in our system and if it makes us sleepy it's ok because we are going to bed.

We've had cruises that we forget to take it and we are fine for the duration.
We have never been out in too deep of water though...only MR and Alaska. And that warm Mexican water doesn't cause too much motion.

GINGER!! We swear by it. I don't think it's possible for anyone to be as motion sick/ seasick as I get, but ginger keeps the tummy happy :). As others have stated, it's a preventative measure. Once you start feeling sick, game over! We take it every few hours, or as needed. The start of vertigo is a good sign that you need to take a few more. And for those looking for Gravol- there's a drug store in Nassau on the main shopping street that has it. We have quite a stock of it!

I used "Motion Ease" on our last cruise (it was rougher seas than previous cruises). It's a topical oil that you put behind your ear. It's made of lavendar, peppermint, frankincense, chamomile, myrrh, ylang ylang, and birch. It's safe for kids, causes no drowsiness, and has no side effects. I think mine came from Walgreens or Walmart. I used it and the Sea Bands for me and my DS (10) and had no problems. It is definitely worth a try!
