Don't get the gas price hike

I just checked Forbes.com. Gas and oil prices have both dropped. The situation in Iran is getting more stable by the day.
So why, in the last 2 1/2-3 weeks, has gas here gone up almost 50 cents a gallon??? I haven't seen any refinery fires, or lines at the pumps anywhere.
We were hovering around $2.00 a couple of weeks ago--it went up to $2.29, then down to around $2.16--last Thursday up to $2.39, then down to about $2.33 by yesterday....today $2.48! And no explanation anywhere.
I want a Honda or a Saturn Vue but DH won't get me any new vehicle because (his words)"you don't take care of the one you have". So every 210 miles I'm filling the sucker up--got 12.78 MPG last time--starting to think the Trailblazer is a Durango in disguise. I try to use cruise whenever I can and just got an oil change 2 weeks ago and keep my tires inflated.
You can bet that every time there is a media story nationally about gas prices going down, here they will go up.

They can't use the excuse that summer is almost here and the travel season is almost upon us.

We have a road trip coming up this weekend and we have to use our Diesel Truck $2.75 a gallon. Diesel is a lower grade of gasoline, yet the price is higher. Figure that one out.

The only thing I can think of is that Spring Break is coming--our gas prices started climbing a couple days ago. My kids are out for it in less than two weeks. I don't know what the schedule is like around the country, but it does seem to be timed with vacation periods.

Gas went up 28 cents from this morning!!!!! It was 2.27 and now 2.55!!

Gas and crude oil prices have only dropped very recently (e.g. today), so it's too early to see an adjustment of price at the pumps. As early as last week, the price of crude oil was about as high as it's been in a while.

The real answer-- because they can.

I had to get gas this weekend and was in the next town over to run errands (gas is usually cheaper there so I waited until then). I was on one of their main roads gas station every couple of blocks some on 3 corners of an intersection. At several intersections 2 of the stations were at $2.13-$2.15 and at one gas was $2.03. This wasn't just at one station. There was another down the road at $2.03 and the station across the street was more than 10 cents higher. Guess which ones had no cars????

For the last 2 weeks, our gas was dropping at least a penny a day and had gotten down to $2.03 for regular. On Sunday morning it was at $2.09 and I notice it is a bit higher this morning.

I don't like it! I filled up my tank last week, and it was $1.95. the next day, it had jumped to $2.03. and now it's at $2.11! what's up with that?

They do it because they can. They raise the price and tell us they have to and we still have to buy gas.

We've bounced from 2.00 to 2.50 over the past 2 weeks, with the high of 2.50 hitting today, after paying 2.25 this morning. Granted, wholesale gasoline has gained some, but a price of 1.70 per gallon plus .36 state tax leaves alot of profit to be made at 2.50 a gallon. I don't buy anyone that says they only make a penny or 2 per gallon-looks like about 40 cents to me.

Maybe the CEO's spent all the hard earned profits on Christmas presents and they need another check for their summer vacations.

Prices flux and I have to agree with the other poster who says that it's about Spring Break. Any time people begin to travel, the price of gas goes UP. Spring and summer and winter travel times it spikes, so that's my take.
