Don't get out the flames just yet

Ive only ever been to Disneyland Paris once, that was the year after we went to WDW. It was a free trip for us :thumbsup2
It felt such a let down for us, there was hardly anything there and it was so cold. if it wasnt raining it was snowing.
i know over the years it has changed a lot and there is much more but to me it just didnt have the 'vibe'
I do want to go back but when ive checked the prices theyre a fortune just for a few days. like others have said its more of a trip than a holiday.
its not the easiest place to get to, i know ive not tried flying there but we have to drive to the euro tunnel, travel by the euro tunnel and then drive to Disney. when we went via coach last time it took longer to get there than it would for us to travel to WDW.

im sure at some point we will go again but for now to us WDW is home.
Id like to visit all the other parks at some point too. :goodvibes

For us there is a long list. The shopping, the sunshine, the food, the people, it goes on and on. We have been to both and Florida is a clear winner. The only draw back with Florida is the flight and if you can offered to travel PE or above (we can't) even that wouldn't be too much of a hardship.

For me Florida offers so much more: Epcot, Animal Kingdom, DCL, all the beautiful resorts, Universal/IOA, Seaworld, Discovery Cove, Busch Gardens, Water parks....not forgetting the shopping, food, weather, the friendly service/people etc.

When I go to WDW it is for 2 or 3 weeks whereas DLRP is a long weekend, 3/4 nights.

I've been to DLRP once for 4 nights and although it was pretty it doesn't give me that fuzzy Disney "your home" vibe that I get at WDW. :cloud9:

::yes:: to all of the above :thumbsup2

The main reason I got to WDW is for

The Weather, the weather, the weather :)

How was the weather on your last trip to WDW then Mandy ;) :rotfl2:

I could not agree more, if i had the money for a trip to DLRP i would continue saving till i had enough for WDW :rotfl2:

We went to DLRP twice last year and got a very good deal for both, TBH it wouldn't have made a dent in what it costs to go to WDW. We also visited DLRP a couple of times in the past when DH was self employed, we were saving hard for other priorities at the time but wanted a quick Disney fix and DH taking 2-3 weeks off work would have set us back so far in our plans. Not everybody just pays the actual price of a holiday, to some the true cost of a holiday is income lost as well.

As I mentioned we went twice last year once in May and once before christmas. The may trip was really good fun, the girls enjoyed much more character interaction and enjoyed experiencing many rides time after time as it was so quiet and the wether was good. The main reason for a xmas visit was to take my Mum as her xmas present as she really wanted to go after seeing the photos, and I think we all wanted to do Disney at christmastime and Florida is not practical for us at that time of year.
DLRP is not the same for us but both trips "served a purpose" mainly for the girls sake. We were only saying yesterday that we doubt we'll be visiting DLRP anytime in the coming years. As somebody who can be there door to door in five hours, I think it's a nice destination if there's a particular theme or parade you want to see it's quick and easy to get to. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it doesn't have the same "vibe" as Florida for us, which I put down to the people, the weather and the culture and attitude difference - by this I mean, Disney "fits" in Florida. For me it doesn't "sit well" in France with the French way of life.

I like the CM's in Paris, they are not so in your face while i find the ones in CM in WDW very overbearing and a bit fake.

:rotfl::rotfl: I must admit in the parks they got on my nerves after a while in the parks. As I do find it a bit to much when I am constantly being asked if I am having a magical day and having to say hello back every couple of minutes, it really annoyed my sister. my DD got embarrassed at times too because of the OTT attention she got.
I have never found the CM at DLP rude, just more reserved.

My DD said that on our last trip - it really started to grate on her after a couple of days... ;) :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Personally, I prefer DL over in California to WDW and like the fact that DLP is more akin to the scale of the original. The weather's not much of a factor to me anymore as TBH I've found it somewhat hit & miss in FLA of recent times...

And I love the reasons why DLP is in France - I'm a sucker for a bit of history!!

I don't find the friendlieness of Americans fake, I think it's a different culture. :)

I've never been to DLP, but everyone I know personally who has, has told me that they did not enjoy it, whereas I have never had anyone tell me that they did not enjoy WDW.

To me WDW is Disney, that's just my personal taste, plus the weather is obviously a big draw, getting DLP is quite expensive from here, and I couldn't justify a trip there to sit in the rain/cold, that's not a holiday for me. :)

I love the American way of life, the culture, the wide open space, everything about it is so far and away from what our lives are like here that going to Florida is something that we look forward to and dream about for months, I can't see a trip to France having the same effect.

Then there is the language barrier, one thing I find to be really ignorant is going to a country in which you cannot speak the language, I've had disagreements with people about this in the past, and I know that places that are geared up towards tourism have wide English speaking resorts, but to me I think it's bad manners, I can speak a little French, but not enough to hold a proper conversation with a French person, and expecting them to speak English to me, is IMO quite rude.

Disney should have gone to Spain, which is more relaxed and warmer. The people are not as arrogant as the French can be - not all French, but some are just not happy people.

Tina

:scared1: I'm guessing the moderation on the DLP is a bit stricter than over here then.

Went to Disneyland Paris many years ago.
Didn't dislike it but prefer Florida, because I like 'Florida', it isn't just about Disney, I like the people, weather, shopping , beaches and more.
Would probably still go there even if the theme parks didn't exist.

As a city there is no comparison, Paris wins hands down, I don't actually like Orlando as a city, but love the entertainment and all there is to offer for a family holiday. For 2 weeks of the year I like to be able to feel 10 years younger and Florida does just that, it's also nice to be able to wear nice summer clothing and of course get a tan.
With a special needs child to support we get little chance to relax and find that we can do that too, I just can't see us being able to in Paris.

I can't comment on cost, both are very expensive, in fact price is prompting us to consider this years holiday to be our last for a while at least.

Main downside of Florida is the flight time, the travel part of the holiday we hate more and more.
First and especially the last day is so long and it seems to take days for us to recover. Once the last day arrives we are ready for home to be honest, but I hate that last day it seems to last forever.

I love Disney and I would rather not go for a couple of years rather than have to go to DLRP. It's just not our cup of tea at all, I love the weather, the people, the other things to do in Florida, the food, the Mountain Dew :goodvibes and lots lots more.

I like Disneyland Paris and we've been twice, we've also been to WDW twice.

To me, DLP is a bit like the moon, its beautiful put pales in comparison to WDW which is like the sun in all its brilliance :lmao:

OK, all flowery cheesiness aside, WDW parks are much nicer, friendlier and have heaps more to see and do. Animal Kingdom and Epcot are just amazing parks, I could spend days and days at each of them. The waterparks are great fun. Then the shopping in Florida, the weather, the Gulf of Mexico - Anna Maria Island is our paradise on earth.

Perhaps its because we went to WDW first but we could never choose DLP over WDW. We go to DLP because its close and we have a young daughter who is too young to know the difference and she hasn't been to WDW yet...I suspect that once she's been and is old enough to voice an opinion that she will also love WDW.

Lastly, to us, DLP is a weekend break, not a proper holiday. WDW is a 2-3 week break for us so that in itself gives it a different feel and the level of excitement is incomparable really.

I'm now going to go cry in a corner hugging my Epcot ball souvenir as I don't have any trips planned :guilty:

Last time I spoke about this it seemed everybody wanted to pick a fight with me. but...............
Florida or France, no brainer, For me Mickey is American not French.
I could say more but I wont;)
I have always found the Americans very hospitable.

You won't get a fight from me - I think we share the same views :thumbsup2

Agreed. :)

And I forgot about Mountain Dew, surely a reason in itself to keep going back to the USA. :D

Nor me. What is it?:confused3

Only the greatest soda known to man :lmao:
