Don't get out the flames just yet

I really have no interest in the other parks at Orlando, we went to sea world and US/IOA in 2008 and my DD didn't really like universal/IOA and is not keen to go back, she won't go anywhere near Harry Potter World. (I would love to stay at the HRH though). I found at Sea world we spent a lot of time hanging around waiting for shows to start and I didn't really like watching shows with Animals.

Thats a shame, we loved univerasl last time, we stayed at HRH (it was AMAZING) so had front of line passes, thats was so cool, piderman, the hulk, we enjoyed the coasters.
How old is you dd, I think it is for older kids compared to disney.
I was really disaapointed with sea world last time? dont know why, just did.

She is 8 however she is easily scared, and most of the rides scared her. She is scared of Harry Potter so won't enjoy that. The only thing she enjoyed was the Simpsons ride and the Popeye water ride.

That makes sense, my dn enjoyed it and she was 12, any younger she would not have went on most things she enjoyed.

Just to be awkward though Im going to throw another side into the mix..... You all seem to have forgotten that DLRP has Paris on it's doorstep!
Paradoxically, you may well have hit the nail on the head. The Orlando that we know would not exist without Walt Disney World. Central Florida has grown into a fabulous vacation resort with WDW the crowning jewel at its centre. Paris, on the other hand, is one of the world's great cities with DLRP a side attraction. In all the times I've considered visiting DLRP for a quick Disney fix, I inevitably come around to the realisation that it would be criminal to do so without including Paris. You're suddenly looking at a holiday rather than a short break.

The point's been made before, but I keep meaning to mention that whilst Paris may be on our doorstep in relative terms, it's a proper rigmarole to get there from my part of the UK.

I actually mentioned Paris as a city much earlier on the thread, in the context that most of us would never had heard of Orlando without the theme parks, and that I can see the appeal of Paris more than Orlando as an actual city.

I have empathy with this view. Despite loving DLP I have recorded a number of times how I had to be dragged there for the first time. Not because I would not like it, but because I did not want to miss Paris.
Paris is expensive or a cheaper long journey to get from our neck of the woods. That however has not stopped us having a wonder time and relationship with this city.
As I have said elsewhere there is much to do in Paris. There are other cities that I detest spending any time in. Paris has much to offer everyone IMHO :goodvibes

If we were comparing cities, Paris and Orlando that would obviously be differant than comparing dlp and wdw which was what the op was aking.

I'm sorry but you cannot compare the two parks as they are both so very different in every way.

These threads always turn into a lets bash DLP thread :(

I'm glad i can say I love both but for very different reasons.

I thought DLP was great but i did book when it was the 40% offer ;) I would love to go again but i cannot justify the cost :(
Only had one rude CM dressed up as Chip and Dales Girlfriend i went in for a pic put my arm round her and she brushed it off and i was not being forceful and it really annoyed me.

But if i had a choice of putting the £1000 towards a 2 week holiday in WDW or a 3/4 night holiday in DLP? WDW would win everytime.

I must be incredibly bad at finding the good deals for WDW, because the cost of a DLP holiday would only cover about a quarter of the cost of my WDW trip!!

I've just stayed for 3 nights, full board, at the Disneyland Hotel for around the same price (probably less, actually) as just the flights to Florida. But then I would still have to find the money for the 14+ nights accomodation, the park tickets and, of course, the food for the four of us, if I want to go on that WDW trip. So there would be quite a bit more saving to go!

Sometimes people on here complain about friends and/or family bagging out the fact that they like to go to Disney (usually WDW) for their holidays. I think we have probably all experienced how annoying that can be, and would rather not have our choice of holiday belittled. Funnily enough, the same goes for those of us who also like to spend some of our time and money visiting DLP.

I love them both!

We were at the DLH the same time as you last week. That was a bargain because all meals were included on the special offer. I am hoping for an offer for the summer, because the quote for B&B only at the Hotel New York is £2,400 for 5 nights. To make it half board takes it to over £3,000. The plus side is, of course, that the travel costs on top of that are quite low, but over £600 a night for half board for 3 people is not appealing at present. That's not to say we won't go, of course ;) but we may have to look at Dream Castle or Magic Circus.

Great post bexx, I couldn't agree more.:thumbsup2

I was suprised at how much I enjoyed DLP, I went when I was very little and remember being memorised by the place (when it was pretty much brand new). Went again this past December and adored it! I think the castle looks nicer (not as fake as WDW's) and thought most of the rides which they have in both (Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain etc) were better in DLP.
And the Studios are coming along nicely too, once they've got their Toy Story area open I think that'll open it out more. And I actually thought the best CM's I've found on any Disney property are the ones for ToT, I think it must be their accent, somehow they can really pull off the creepy. :rotfl:

Stayed at Sante Fe and although it was cheap, it was great for what we wanted.
Planning to go again in May staying at Sequoia Lodge this time.
Probably won't do so many days in WDW this September because of it. :rolleyes1

I curse the day PepsiCo took it away from us in the uk :lmao:

:goodvibes

I don't remember it ever being in the UK, when was that?

I don't think anyone is trying to belittle other people's choice to go to DLP, it's very much a personal thing. If DLP is what you like then great, I am glad that you love it, but everyone's tastes are different. :)

exactly, life is full of choices, everybody is differant, we are talking opinions here, nothing else:thumbsup2

Mid 90's for definite, I remember drinking it while at school :thumbsup2

Obviously DLRP is going to get the 'rough deal' when this is pretty much the WDW community board (as DLRP's is mixed in with it's Trip Planning board) and I do feel myself feeling the need to defend the younger brother, especially when given a hard time by those who've never visited it.

Even tho I think I'm leaning more towards preferring WDW :)

:goodvibes

Thanks Luke, it must have bypassed me then, or maybe not sold up here. :)

To be fair, I do think that I have a pretty harsh opinion on DLP, especially since I've never been there, but as I've said before I know I won't like it, and everyone I do know who has been has complained about it.

My uncle and his wife took their three children a few years back, because their kids were young and they didn't fancy a 9 hour flight with the three of them, but that said, it cost them a lot more to go to Paris than it would have to go to Florida, they came back saying that a lot of the rides were closed, the weather wasn't great (though that is to be expected) and generally they didn't have a great time at all, they have never been so glad to get home from a trip in their lives. It's hardly a ringing endorsment.

For example, if someone gave a really bad review of a restaurant in Orlando on this board, I am sure it would put a lot of people off going, even if they'd never tried it themselves. There are some people who'd give it a chance, but equally a bad review of somewhere is enough to put others (like myself) off the whole idea. :)
