Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Me too! Gloucester twp...looking for someone to run with once a week if ur intersted & in the area!

SURE! My schedule is pretty crazy with working full-time & going to night class 3x's per week. :sad2:

But I'd love to run with you on a Saturday or Sunday. I'm by Rowan University.

I finished my first race! Completed the 5k in 38:44 (my Garmin time - don't know my official time yet). That is more than 2 minutes faster than my previous fastest 5k time. :cool1:

Thanks to everyone who has cheered me on along the way. :cheer2: I had the best cheerleaders today! :grouphug: Now I have two weeks to get ready for my 10k! :cool1:

Great Job!!:woohoo:
Way to go and on to the next!! :yay:

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a good weekend.

Nice job on the 5K, Carissa!

I didn't do the Detroit half marathon today, the registration was closed out on Saturday. Debbie walked the half today and knocked 5 minutes off her time from last year:thumbsup2. I have found out I prefer to run an event than be a spectator, it was freezing, dark and a little tiring just standing around watching other people run. I think I want to try this next year, except this event is a little hardcore, 3 people died from heart failure last year and Debbie saw a women getting CPR 2 miles into the race. I read she is in critical condition.

I ran 4 miles on Thursday doing the 5-1 run/walk and I think I like this Galloway method, I will keep giving it a try.

Hey Dan have you tried running in your Vibrums yet? I tried a pair on while at Hilton Head and I didn't like how they felt.

Well have a great week everyone.

Joe

I think my family would agree with you on being spectators! We've already decided they won't be joining me in two weeks when I run the 10k. Just too long for little boys to hang out waiting, especially if it's cold.

Congrats to Debbie! :cool1:

I'm glad you liked it! One of the things I like about it is that it really helps to break up those long runs. I'd have a hard time wrapping my brain around running 5 miles straight. Instead I can say, "I only have to run for 5 minutes and then I get to walk." Knowing that it's easier on the body than constant running helped sell me on the technique. :thumbsup2

Have to second that motion on being a spectator! I watched a 10 miler yesterday & it killed me, but I knew my knee couldn't take it. Have an appt. with a sports med doc soon & hopefully will start some PT.

Dan - Would love to hear how you like training in Vibrams (aka VFFs, Vibes). I run in them all the time, but usually keep it to 6 miles or less. It's really physically demanding. Much more so than in sneaks.

Joe- The feel is a bit strange at first, especially just for a try -on. But you may want to consider giving them a try. There is nothing like it, especially on a nice trail run! It completely changes the game. Kind of makes you feel like a kid doing something you're not supposed to. And really strengthens the lower legs!

Thanks for the welcome! I was @ Boma so I guess we must have met. Where were you sitting? Good luck on the duathalon!:cheer2:

Yes, I remember now. You were down by Joe and Deb, I was at the other end across from Frank. (was hoping some of his speed would rub off!)

Carissa, great job on your 5K! Good luck on your upcoming 10K!

I had a nice duathlon yesterday. Have almost broken into the sub hour time, did a 1:01:52. I will have to work on the changing of shoes! I did win my age group, but was talking to the second place finisher in the next higher bracket, and he was under an hour. There are some fast old guys out there!

Well, it must have worked! You are super fast and had an awesome time!

What does the duathlon consist of? How much running and how much biking? Congrats on winning your age group! :cool1:

A usual duathlon is a 2 mile run, 10 mile bike, and another 2 mile run. Sometimes the distances will vary somewhat, I did one in Central Park and the bike was 12 miles, because it was two laps of Park Drive. There are two types here, one on the road and the other in the woods, requiring a mountain bike. I have heard of some tris where they substitute the swim for an equivelent run, so the swimmers and runners sort of finish around the same time.

Wow, that's great! And sounds like fun too.

I've run in my Vibrams several times and love them. I can definitely feel it in my calves when I wear them. The most I have run in them is 5 miles. I don't think I would do any more than that in them. I really want to run a 5K in them.

I was reading an article where the Army will not let their soldiers do the PT test in them. Said that it might give the soldier an unfair advantage on the test. I was like REALLY, someone running essentially barefoot has an unfair advantage over someone in tennis shoes, REALLY.

WHAT??? :scared1:
Joe, you have officially freaked me out about doing a marathon (and I'm already registered for Disney's full!)

Why is that event that you just did so hard core that caused 3 people to die? PLEASE tell me the Disney one is different! (Lie if you have to)

Sorry I didn't mean to freak you out. I think the reason is some people in Michigan arn't as heathy as they think they are. The other reason is, Michigan can't get a break, 1 in 180,000 people in a running events dies and it's just Detroits luck it happened to 3 in one event.
On a happier note, I heard the women that Debbie saw getting cpr is doing better.:hippie:.

So don't be concerned my first WDW half marathon (the Wine & Dine) was a blast and I'm looking forward to the one in January.
Happy weekend everyone.
Joe

Btw Ducks, what kind of water carrying gear does everyone use? I've been using an Amphipod belt, but the dang bottles keep falling out.:headache: It's just a pain to get them in the clips just right. I even lost one. It fell off the back & I did't even notice. Thinking of trying a Nathan.:confused3

So Joe, how's your toe?:goodvibes

The toe is healing fine, thank you. The nail is just black.
I managed to run 10 miles this morning. I did a 4-1 run walk ratio and felt pretty good. I am trying to get back into a running routine. Stephanie and I signed up for the 5K in January at Epcot. I don't think she is taking it serious to do some walking and running while at school. I might have to get her roommate involved for some motivation.
Does anyone know if the Woody & Buzz 5K is something new for 2011?

Shanonn I have a belt I got from Target that holds a regular water bottle and a zippered pocket for car key and a snack and a pocket on the outside for a phone or ipod. It's comfortable and works pretty good for long runs. And you get a free 12 month digital subscription to Runner World magazine.:thumbsup2

Have a good weekend everyone.

Shannon,
I finally broke down & got a small (1.0 Liter) Camelbak. I HATE carrying anything when I run, but after my first half in Sept. I knew I needed something for my long runs.

It is taking some time to get used to it, but I may even wear it during the full since we don't get food until Mile 14. I need something more than water & Powerade it by Mile 9!
