Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Liz,

Can you add me to the AF Half on 18 Sept and then RAGNAR central Florida 19-20 November.

Thanks

Yep, the Battleship 1/2 marathon is November 7th. :) We head for WDW on the 9th, so it will be a good "treat" for me to enjoy fun time at WDW after the run.

Great timing, that'll be such fun to head to Disney to celebrate your race! :)

Soooo jealous of all you doing the W&D together.
Will you PLEASE take pics?

I wish we could all actually do the race together, that would be a blast!!
I will take pics though, I'll have my camera along for the race.

For a meet and greet why don't we plan on meeting up for a lunch somewhere on Saturday. This will probably be my last big meal before the race or we all could probably meet up for a light dinner before the race. ...

My friend Kelly who is going with me and I are eating a late lunch at Cinderella's Royal Table on Saturday. That's going to be my big meal for that day. Then I'll have a very light meal (snack, really) in the evening. I have a fast metabolism so I have to make sure I eat enough that day.

Anyway, so I can't do a lunch meet. (Well, unless you all want to meet at Cindy's!) And in the late afternoon and evening you can find me relaxing by the POFQ pool. I'll get my evening snack from the POFQ food court. So if anyone wants to meet up that afternoon/evening at POFQ let me know.

Liz,

Done. I just read about the Ragnar relay, that sounds so cool. I can't wait to hear your report on it. What part will you be running?

Hello Ducks! Just got back from a lunchtime run, second this week. I have a 5K this Saturday. I also had a consultation with a exercise physiologist here at work, and she gave me a three day plan to follow, one day is an easy 3-4 mile run (is there such a thing?), second day is a 'fartlek' run, where I periodically run as fast as I can for as long as I feel like. I did that today, and ran faster using telephone poles as a reference. And the third day she said to start increasing the mileage.

Meeting for lunch somewhere sounds good, I was planning on a late lunch around 2 or 3, had the Big River Grill in mind, as I am staying at the BW. That was my last meal before both of my Disney races. I also saw on another thread a WISH meet being planned though no location was determined yet. And of course there is the after party.

Have a good week!

There is a Boma dinner scheduled for Friday at 5:00 with Mrs. D. So far, she has a ressie for 25. Join us!

Reading about your plans for the W&D has me jealous. It looks like it will be a cool event. I cannot wait to see pics.

Thanks everyone for the advice for the PF- I am starting to do some of the stretches and I think it's helping, as is wearing shoes around my tiled house. No more bare feet for me!

I did do my long run outdoors last weekend- and it was hard. I went out at 9am thinking I was leaving early enough. But not in Houston. It was 85 degrees with crazy humidity. But I did it, even though it was so much harder. And it took me about a minute longer than it would have on the treadmill.

As for the races I am planning on, I haven't decided which 5K's I am going to do. But I am going to do the Galveston 10K on November 21, and the Sugar Land half marathon Jan 16 2011 in hopes of preparing myself for the Princess Half marathon in Feb.

Joe,

Are you doing the pasta dinner for the AF half? If so do you want to plan a meet up?

Dan
I didn't sign up for the pasta dinner, but now that I looked it up it sounds like fun. I will look into signing up for it if it isn't full.

Liz,

We will be staying at the Port Orleans Riverside. When are you arriving?

We are heading to Myrtle Beach for the weekend. :cool1: But first I need to get my run done for today. Hoping to do 3 miles at 5mph=36 min. We'll see.

Have a great weekend Ducks! :sunny: Talk to ya Monday.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend! Kind of warm here, I did a 5K this morning and was waytoowarm. At the 2 mile mark there was a person calling splits, and i nearlydied when I saw no water. Luckily it was around the corner, and it was much needed.

I saw in another thread here that the W&D is sold out, so went to Half site and registered for that before it closes. Right now it is at 70%. Who else is doing that one?

Have a great weekend! Stay cool and hydrated!

Hey Ducks!

I've been off the boards for a few weeks, as I've been traveling around Alberta on the weekends. I drove 5 hours north of Edmonton to visit my old boss (when we were both working in Russia) on the July 1-4 weekend. Caught a head cold up there. Yuck. The good part is that it was pretty short-lived.

Then last weekend was my annual convention of a bunch of lady engineers. I hosted the "convention" this year. I rented condos up in Banff National Park (awesome scenery!) and we laughed until we cried (as women usually do!) for four nights/five days. This was our
25th year anniversary convention! What a great time!

So my running has been sporadic. BUT...I ran in Banff four times (at 4400 feet). My pace was slow, but it was a good aerobic workout at that altitude. I ran along the river that cut through the town and it was soooo peaceful. Since I got home, I've up'ed my daily runs to 5 miles and yesterday, I ran my first 10K since the Luck O' the IWish Run in March! So I feel pretty good and well on my way to being ready for the W&D Half.

I'm heading back to the US in two weeks to visit doctors and dentists and see some family. Hope to keep my running up through that vacation, too.

I'm thinking of signing up for the Edmonton 10K Race in late August, so I get corraled a little higher at the W&D Half, but I'll let you know for sure later, Liz.

My brother and I have a lunch ADR on Saturday at LeCellier, but it's not that important to me (I live in Canada right now, remember?!? I get great Alberta beef all the time!). So I'd be willing to join you guys at the Big River Grill on the BW on Saturday afternoon. Maybe all the ducks won't be able to get together for a meal, but maybe we can hold a bunch of mini-meal meets?

I still think a pre-race picture would be fun, but I've never been to a WDW race, so I'm not clear on logistics, so someone else should coordinate that one. I like Liz's idea of the D tent pre-race, or something like that.

For those of you in warm regions, take it easy in the heat. And to all - let's run injury-free!

Have a great week!

How about we plan a meet for before the race?? Maybe we could meet at tent "D" (for Ducks) or something? (Oh wait, can you get to the meet tents before the race?) Meet, take a pic, and head to the corrals? It doesn't have to be long, I know we all have a race to get to. lol

Let's see, the race begins at 10pm, what time will you all want to get into your corrals? That would help determine a meet time. I've only done the one Disney race so far, and we entered our corral at about 5:45. So we had ~15 minutes before our corral started to move. That was fine, although this time I want to get near the front of my corral. So I'm thinking maybe 20-30 min before start I'll want to get in there.

Tell us your thoughts and plans W&Ders!

I've been away so I am finally getting back on board!!

Been running 3-5 miles about every other day, Been making some good times too.

I think meeting at the D tent would be great! I would LOVE to see many of you face to face!! my only question would be, how would we know eachother?

just throwing out some ideas, we can wear little sailer's hats, a Donald hat with the yellow bill, or just make "Quaking" sounds.
I'll be wearing a lime green running shirt I picked up at Target. I am planning on making a Donald Duck iron-on transfer at work to put on it.

I am open for any get togethers. Debbie and I will be doing the Boma meet on Friday, the reservation has been extended to 40 people now, so their is room for more people if anyone is interested.
I am hoping to have some energy left after the run to enjoy the after party, some of us should be able to make a toast to a fun evening.:thumbsup2

I managed 12.5 miles on Saturday. I felt really good, but I was dragging the last few miles. When I started it was 75 and by the time I finished it was 87 out.
I am doing good with my Saturday long run, now I need to get serious on working on increasing my speed.

Ten more days and I will be checking into the Contemporary Resort, getting pretty excited.:cool1:
Have a good week everyone.:hippie:

Training question:

What do you eat & how much do you drink on your runs?

I'm finding after about 5 miles I need some water (still haven't mastered that yet), & I'm sure after about 10 I'll need a gel or something.

I had a shot block this morning & it wasn't too bad, but I can't imagine eating the WHOLE package.

I am planning on wearing a bright green running shirt as well, maybe I'll put a little Donald on the back of it too...

Hey all! We had a fun weekend trip to Myrtle Beach with our friends. :) I didn't workout Mon or Tues...I've been feeling really tired. But I did run (2miles) and bike (5 miles) today. My heart rate was higher for some reason, which made my breathing harder, so it wasn't the most pleasant workout day. But it's done. My "long" run for later this week is 4 miles.

You mean the January Half? I'll add you to the list. Right now it's: AUdisneyDad(Tim), Big Vic(Vic), carissanboys(Carissa), fairestoneofall(Emily), liznboys(Liz)

:rotfl: Can you imagine...each of us casually walking up to the tent, looking around at the people standing there and saying "quack?...quack?...quack??" :rotfl:

I just typed out a response but then realized that I was going by what I did in the fall when the temps were much cooler... I have no experience training in summer weather. And I won't be running outside again until September.

I will say that I tried the bloks/gels/beans and I found I like the Clif Shot Vanilla the best. So that's what I'll use again this time. I used one for my longest training run last fall (11+ miles) and then one during the half. Other than that, just water as needed. I don't like sports drinks.

I like to use a gel about 15 minutes before my run and then about every 40-45 minutes there after. I don't like the beans or bloks they are too chewy during my run. As far as water goes, I am finding that the little bottle I carry is not enough on my longer runs so I am going to invest in a Nathan water belt with a couple of bottles on it.

Pretty much I have found that it all boils down to trial and error. The thing is you don't want to error with your water consumption, so better to have something with you than nothing at all.

Quake!,:donald:
On my weekday runs I go after work and I usually eat a granola bar or an apple about a half hour before I head to the park. No matter the distance I take a 20 oz bottle of water or gatorade that I wear on a belt that also holds my blackberry to track my run. On my weekend long run I have a bag of beans to eat on the go. I have found in the last couple of long runs I have to refill my water bottle at the park to finish the last 4 miles. It has been pretty hot and humid lately.:scared:
good week everyone.
