Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

... Now for some news, I have convinced my DW into doing the WDW Half Marathon with me in Jan. She is very excited about doing it. She started the C25k plan this week, so I now have a training partner. Also my DD will be running in the 2yo race. So we are making it a family adventure.

Hope everyones training goes well and that everyone with injuries has speedy recoveries.

Tim that's great your wife is doing the Half! And your DD doing a race too, fun! Best of luck to your wife with the C25K. I did it last year, boy is that a great program. :thumbsup2

Hi everyone!
I'm glad more ducks are coming down for the Wine & Dine, it will make the after party more enjoyable.
I am open for any Duck Meet, either something a the ESPN center during the Expo or at Epcot or MK for a get together for Illumination or Wishes. I'll bring my extra Mickey vision glasses for everyone to try out. The only thing Debbie & I have planned is a reservation for Jikos on Monday evening and Debbie wants to see La Nouba while we are there.

My official time for Sundays 10K was 58:19, I finished 775 out of 1644. i'm pretty happy with the results.

Have a good week everyone.
Joe

Well Ducks, I registered!!! It's official, I'm doing the W&D Half! :yay: I also bought the pin.

16.5 weeks to get ready. I better get my new running shoes asap! :rotfl:

OK Renee, YOUR TURN!! ::yes::

Okay Liz, I did the deed tonight, too. Thanks for the push. I registered for the W&D Half! It's official. And yep, I bought the pin, too. We'll be twins!

Just for good measure, I ran the last two days...four miles each day...at a pretty slow pace (for me) and felt great. So I think I can do this. As you say, we got 16.5 weeks to sort it all out.

Like Joe said, it'll be a lot more fun with a bigger flock of Ducks in the event! Make sure you update post number 2, eh?!?

Woo hoo! I'm getting psyched for WDW again! Thanks, Liz!

If I can do it in my sad state (and I still don't even have a new pair of running shoes! LMBO!) than you certainly can! As of today there are 16.5 weeks to train...race is October 2nd at 10pm! :)

Oh I'm not worried about being able to do ONE Half! The thought of doing back to back Half Marathons (2 weeks apart) is scary! :scared1:

But if I do register, it will be me alone. No kids, no hubby . . . just Ducks. Liz (or anyone else), are you going as a "single lady" (or man)? I've never been to WDW totally on my own. Have always had at least my own little short people with me! Hmmmmm....planning a trip to the WORLD with people I haven't actually met could be fun.

Told the wife I was taking her with me to the Wine and Dine Yesterday and asked her where she wanted to stay. She chose Port Orleans Riverside. We have stayed there before and loved it. Only thin to do now is to find a descent priced plane ticket.

I LOVE Riverside. Stayed there last January for the HALF and loved it there!

DO IT, DO IT, DO IT :woohoo: :woohoo:

Great job Joe!

Yeah, I can see that as being scary doing the two halfs close. I wonder how that works...do you just do some small miles in between to maintain?

And I will be SOLO! No dh, no kids, no one but you Ducks! I'm staying at POFQ that Fri and Sat.

Told the wife I was taking her with me to the Wine and Dine Yesterday and asked her where she wanted to stay. She chose Port Orleans Riverside. We have stayed there before and loved it. Only thin to do now is to find a descent priced plane ticket.

That's great! POR is nice!

Yeah, plane tickets.. I bought my return flight last night. Dh gave me some of his AirTran rewards so I got that flight for just the $2.50 9/11 fee. yay! I need to book my flight down though. I'll probably use AirTran for that too.

Ok, I've got all my flights booked now! :yay:

Friday I land at 8pm and take Magical Express to POFQ. I want to stay up that night so that I can sleep in longer on Saturday morning. None of the parks are open late enough (well, other than the MNSSHP but I don't want to spend money on that) so park time is out. Maybe I'll take the boat to DTD...hmmm.

Saturday my plan is to sleep in. I'll eat breakfast at POFQ and then go to my Ft. Wilderness Segway tour from 11-1:30. After that I'll head back to POFQ, eat some lunch and freshen up. Then head to the Expo! And after that, not sure. Maybe lounge by the pool and have a light dinner at some point? I know I'll be tempted to head to a park, but that's probably not a good idea before the race, right?? Then it's race and party time! What time will you head to the race start?

Sunday, sleep in! Then I want to do some park time for sure. I'll have to wait and see which park I feel like going to...MK is my favorite but I'm leaning towards Epcot right now. My flight home takes off at about 4:30pm, so I guess Magical Express will pick me up at 1:30pm. I think they pick up 3 hours before your flight, right? I can't remember. I guess I'll only have a few hours in the parks this trip!

Liz-

That looks like a good plan. I'm planning on crashing early on Friday so I can get up fresh, and run the 5K in the MK. We have lunch booked at the Brown Derby on Friday, so that will be my last rich, heavy meal.

On Saturday, after the 5K, I think I'll do pool time and relaxing around the BWV. I still haven't sorted out where to eat a late lunch, as the last big-ish meal before the half. Maybe on the BW? Maybe at one of the Swan/Dolphin restaurants?

After the half, on Sunday, we've already bought tickets for the Gospel Brunch at House of Blues. Always wanted to do that. 1 PM seating. Then we'll hang in DTD before heading to MNSSHP on Sunday evening.

We now have 10 out of 22 Mighty Ducks signed up for the W&D Half. If one more Duck signs up, that'll be 50% of us! Pretty good! Any takers?!?

My last two race experiences at DW consisted of a Friday am run, and doing the race on Saturday. One was the ToT 13K, which also started at 10pm, and then the Half which was 5am. For the 10pm start, I ate around 2 in the afternoon at Big River, and then spent time at the pool. It worked last time so will probably do that routine again. Also brought some GU's with me to the race., though for this half they will probably have them on course at the water stops, they had Clifshots in January.

Good to see so many Ducks signed up!

Liz, Yes, Magical Express picks you up 3 hours before your flight.
Enjoy your Segway tour, Dh and I did it last year and really enjoyed it.
Remember to give yourself plenty of time to get there as you have to use their internal bus system to get where you need to be.

I think it's pretty cool that so many Ducks are doing the Food and Wine Half!

Your plan sounds good too! I would be so tired Saturday night for the race and party if I got up and did the 5K Saturday, so I've ruled that out. Though it would be fun to run in all 4 parks in one day, and I can't wait to hear your report on it! :)

Thanks for this Augie. I'm at a loss as to when and what to eat Saturday. A night race certainly is different.

Thanks Sharon! Maybe you can help me decide how I'll get from POFQ to Ft. Wilderness. I was thinking bus to MK, boat to Ft.W then depending on where the Bike Barn is (that's where it starts, right?) I can walk or take an internal bus there? Do you think an hour is a good amount of time to get there? I'm using this map as reference: http://allears.net/acc/fortwmap1.jpg
I see the Bike Barn is by the pool. I have been to Ft.W before but can't recall how far it is from the Marina to that area.

a little bummed today..I have to take some time off of running due to shin splints.. I am in pain and trying to ice and stretch it out... I am sooo not an experienced runner so any ideas and help would be really nice!:confused3

I really hope I am ready for this half marathon by October! Am I nuts!!!

Not as nuts as someone who is considering running a Half on 9/19 and then again on 10/2! :thumbsup2

 Hope they feel better!
Did you recently get new shoes? Or maybe you need new shoes?
Maybe try running on grass (watch the ankles with sticks & holes) or a track?

You can do anything you put your heart & your mind into.
I believe in you! :wizard:

Did a nice seven miles today - felt good, but quads were a bit sore. We'll see how they feel tomorrow.

I SO WISH I could do the W&D with you guys!
DH has some car race he goes to each year & it's the same weekend, so I have no one to watch DD.

And I MAY have to switch to the half in January rather than the full, but won't know that until September.
We're trying for one more princess: & I am NOT running 26.2 miles at five months pregnant.

13.1 is O.K. :rotfl:

Ahhh, I'm sorry to hear that! That's one thing I haven't experienced. (knock on wood, I have enough to deal with!) I hope you get it figured out!

Not as nuts as someone who is considering running a Half on 9/19 and then again on 10/2! :thumbsup2

And not as nuts as someone who's barely run over the past few months, has multiple issues and still doesn't have a new pair of running shoes (and I donated my old ones, so I have nothing!) Talk about crazy!!:rotfl:

How exciting about ttc!!! GOOD LUCK!! :wizard::wizard::wizard:

There ya' go, Karen! Karin's thinking of running a half marathon while 5 months pregnant. How nuts can running the half in October with shin splints today be?!?

My opinion? It all makes perfect sense. Pregnant running, two halfs in two weeks, running while injured.

We're runners. This is the silly stuff that we do. I'm sure the guys will chime in here soon about their silly antics, too (okay, maybe not running while pregnant, but you get the idea). Runners are strong and do some pretty abusive things to their bodies. It's just the nature of the sport.

You're not nuts. You're a Mighty Duck! Am I right?
