Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Hi Everyone! I'm so very glad to be joining your wish team! I need friends to encourage me to keep running when I'm not doing cross country! Eventually I want to do either the 2011 or the 2012 1/2 marathon at Disney (of course! where else!)!

I'm Megan :) and I'm from the eastern shore of Maryland :)

Hi Megan and welcome. You will find lots of encouragement here and lots of great people. As far as your half marathon there is no time like the present go ahead and book the 2011 trip :rolleyes1. There will be several of us down there that weekend :cool1:. I mean I'm not sayin, but I'm just sayin!!!!

Hello Ducks! Just got back from a nice (but short) trip to DW. While there met up with je one morning while we were both out doing a morning run. Also had the nice experience of veiwing a shuttle launch.

Dan, good job on the half. Great time, and after all the hills you encountered, you will have no problem at any race at DW, they are all pretty flat.

Deb, congratulations on your goal of three halfs. You have done three times the number that I have done. Keep it up over the summer!

Have a good week, everyone!

Augie

Thanks augie and I hope you had a great time at Disney. Wish I could have been down there with you all.

haha thanks! It actually comes down to my acceptance into the College Program for next spring. If I do get accepted, it will depend on how close to the race my check-in date is! :)

:banana:Welcome Megan!!

I find this team a constant support! In those times of trial when you feel like you aren't moving forward and you don't feel like running... just pop on the boards and give a holler...

they are the best motivation! I love it!!! :cheer2:

Welcome Megan!!! I think you will find everyone here to be supportive and helpful; just post with whatever questions you might have and you will get responses. :goodvibes
My DD's name is Megan, and spelled the same. :)

Good morning Ducks, and welcome to the group Megan.
I just did a 3 mile run on the beach at Vero Beach. Nice views but not very flat most of the run was running on an angle. It was fun though, alittle tough on the calfs. This is my last day here, we pack up the car tomorrow for a 2 day drive home. We had a really great vacation, but I think 9 days at WDW is too much :scared1:. At the beginning of the trip, I was thinking, we'll be here 9 days I'll get back to do _____. Then 2 days left I relized we missed some things. We only did Animal Kingdom for a half day. I will make sure we spend a whole day there on or trip during the Wine & Dine, since we are staying at AKV. The D23 event I attended was fun and Debbie even thought it was worth the money (I will make a convert to Disney, soon). We learned a little about the 2 new resaurants opening in Epcot this fall. The mcoolest thing was for Bella Napoli, they analyzed the water in Naples Italy and are going to recreate the water here to make the pizzas with. We got to sample some of the food on the menu during the morning event. I think it will go over pretty good. The San Angel Inn going up next to Mexico will be a si down and counter restaurant, but during lunch some of the table service area will be opened up for counter service guests to be able to eat inside out of the sun then at dinner be all table service again. Some cast members toured Mexico Cityand tried a lot of the local street foods to incorporate into the menu, it looks like that could be pretty good also.
If you haven't seen my pictures of Wishes through the Mickey Vision glasses on my facebook page, check them out. I hope they make these glasses available to people, it is a fun way to experience the fireworks.
Dan and Deb good job on your half marathons:cool1:. I've got about 2 weeks till my first 10k, I need to get out of vacation mode in a hurry and get back on schedule.
Have a good weekend everyone.
Joe

I registered for the 2011 WDW Marathon yesterday! It will be my first full marathon! I'm excited but VERY nervous!

Hi Everyone!!! I have been MIA for a long while now, but we have recently moved and I have been bad and not being exercising... anywhoo... I have started back to walking and I am truely enjoying it as it's so relaxing to me to put on my ipod and have alone time with just me and my music... but there is a problem... over the past couple days my leg has been hurting incredibly bad on the outside down near my ankle. It got so bad today I didn't know if I was going to be able to make it home... well I did, but it was not too quickly, could this be a show issue or something else? Thanks for the help!

 Good for you. Look forward to seeing you down there. I feel you on the nerves this will be my first full as well. I thought about doing one before this to test the waters, but decided against it. I want Disney to be my first. :thumbsup2

Welcome back. Did you move very far? I hope your injury is not to bad, don't push it go see a doc.

Hi Megan, welcome to the Ducks, glad to have you with us

Joe- thought the Mickey Vision glasses were cool! So glad you all had a great trip - and you're going to totally rock that 10k!

SweetPea, how exciting! Congrats for going for it!

LeLe- if the pain was that bad, i'd give it time to heal, and if it still hurts - see a professional

---
As for me, just chugging along. Nothing new -- in rest mode this week, and will get back out there Monday or Tuesday moving again

Megan: Hi! And Welcome!

Andrea: 2011 Marathon will be my first one too!

Just got back from Disney (no running, too much eating) :scared1:

This morning's run was HORRIBLE. Almost two weeks off (was sick last week), probably still tired from traveling & I tried incorporating walk breaks.

UGH! That was really HARD! Stopped every ten minutes to walk for one minute messed me up mentally & rhythmically. I need to work on those. :sad2:

I'm exhausted now.

No only about 15 minutes away from our old house. I thinking it may be the shoes. i was being a cheapo and got different shoes then what I've been wearing and well lets just say, I might as well have no shoes on if that tells you how much cushion they have.

Thanks! I've been trying to ice it and tried walking backwards up hill (that's what the trainer told him high school when I had shin splints) and I put ice on it. It's better today I just keep having to stretch b/c it gets so tight. Thanks everyone... hopeing for new shoes sometime next week!

Hello Ducks! How is everyone doing?

Welcome to the Ducks, Megan!

Good for registering for the full, Andrea, there will be a lot from this group down there then. Just the half for me this time.

Joe, safe trip home. It was nice to meet you and share a lap around the lake.

Karin, hope you had a nice trip. I got back last Sunday. I miss it already. Got some nice runs in while there.

Lele, welcome back, and hope your leg feels better. New shoes help, I recently bought a new pair forom a running store, and they feel better than the box store shoes. And they were not much more, either.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I plan on some biking once all my to-do things are done.

Augie

Hello Ducks, it sounds like everyone is having a great time with their training and races. I just finished catching up on all the post and have to say WELCOME :cheer2: to the our new members and GREAT JOB :worship: to everyone. As for me it has been a whirlwind around here. Since we returned from the cruise work has been crazy but I am still fitting in my workouts. I've started doing yoga (It's a Learning process to say the least.) every morning, working out in the evenings, and running. As of today I am down 16 lbs. with another 45 - 50 lbs. to go. My runs have been anywhere from 3.5 - 5 miles so not to long but a good base to start a half marathon plan. I did have a PR in a 5k a few weeks ago. I came in at 32'17", 45 sec. faster than my previous 5k PR. I was suppose to run in a 10k this past Saturday that ended up being canceled Wednesday. Now I'm going to run the Xterra Oak Mountain Mud Run 10k June 12. This will be my first true trail race. Anyway sorry I've been so long winded. Hope everything keeps going well for all.

Liz: Here is an updated list of my races coming up.

June 12: Xterra Oak Mountain Mud Run 10k

July 4: Peavine Falls Run (8.2 miles)
24: The Retro Run 5k

Jan. 8, 2011: The DONALD

Hey Ducks!

Thought it was high time for me to come back to the group. It’s been nearly two months since I last posted.

Since then? My stress test was easily passed and I was immediately released back to work. Frankly, I’ve felt fine since the day of my run and the “cardiac event”. No ill effects or any lapses. I attempted to get a second opinion on my diagnosis, but I don’t think anyone up here in Canada wants to go near that. They don’t seem too concerned about what caused it or how to prevent it again, but only that the treatment for my symptoms is appropriate. Don’t get me wrong, they’ve run through all the standard causes (heredity, lifestyle issues, etc), but nothing speaks to a possible heart attack victim, so they’re stumped. And like I said, that doesn’t seem to concern them. I will, instead, head to the US this summer to visit my doctor of 10-plus years and get a second opinion there.

In terms of exercise, I passed on their cardiac rehab program, as it’s geared to retired 70-somethings, not fit 40-somethings. I’ve created my own program because they weren’t very helpful to me since I don’t fit “their mold”. I’m now walking four days a week on my treadmill with a steep incline so I can get my heart rate up to a level of “hard”. This keeps me working in an aerobic state with endurance. I so want to run…

I won’t be running the Calgary 10K this coming weekend (Liz – you can update post 2 if you so choose). I’m still planning on doing the 5K fun run on 2 October in the MK. I may walk it all or run some of it, who knows? Something in the back of my brain keeps niggling about the W&D Half Marathon that night that I had my heart set on for months to run, but I still haven’t committed to doing it. I’ll keep working on endurance over the next few months, and see what happens in the US with my doctor and what I can get the docs up here to agree to. At the end of the day, it’s still my body, my life, and my decision to do what I do. I won’t be stupid, but I’m nowhere near ready to hang it up, either. There's nothing medical that says I am, either.

I’ve so enjoyed keeping up with all the Ducks, as I’ve been lurking on this thread throughout. And a big WELCOME to all the new Ducks! Looks like we’ve had some ups and downs across the whole Duck Team. But that’s why we’re a team. To be here and support one another through it all. Through the daily runs and the weekly successes. Through the rainy season and the races completed. Through the injuries and the runs we didn’t think we could finish. Through the balance of family and exercise, which both keep us healthy. We’re a team. And I’m proud to be part of this one.

It's good to be back. Hope everyone has a GREAT week!

Hi ducks!!!

I just wanted to drop in and let you know that I signed up
for a 5k in July! It's on July 14th in the evening and it supports Delaware Hospise, which is really important to me right now due to my grandmother.

This will be my first 5k race since March so I'm excited to see how I do :)

Hello Ducks!

Welcome back, Renee! Good that you are feeling better, and starting to be active again. By October maybe you will be in shape enough to do both the 5K and the Half!

Good luck with your 5K, Megan.

I have not run a bit since returning from Disney. But it has only been a bit over a week. maybe tomorrow. I am still putting a lot of miles on the bike. I have several things coming up in June, a 5K on the 12th, then the following Sunday three bike races, a 20k road race and a 5K and a 10K TT. And the following weekend i am going to Boston to do the Harpoon Brewery to Brewery ride, riding from the brewery in Boston to the brewery in Vermont. Did this last year and it was a lot of fun. Of course there was beer at the end!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Augie
