Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Hey Ducks! Sorry for my lack of posting lately, here's why...

After just four times of running on my new treadmill, my darn (I really want to use a stronger word there) Achilles (the one I tore last August) started hurting.

And by "running" I mean that all I did was a run/walk interval, MOSTLY walk, for only about 2.5 miles each time, and when I ran it was only at 4.5 miles per hour. I was taking it slow an easy as planned, it's ridiculous that I would hurt after doing only that. It's extremely frustrating......

I didn't tell anyone but a few people, I am beyond sick of dealing with injuries and aches and pains, and I'm sure people are sick of hearing about them.

So, I haven't been running, only biking (and doing stretching/strengthening exercises). I bought new shoes a couple weeks ago, so at least once I start up again I'll have fresh shoes (and I did go to a running store and get analyzed).

Hi Everyone! I'm so very glad to be joining your wish team! I need friends to encourage me to keep running when I'm not doing cross country! Eventually I want to do either the 2011 or the 2012 1/2 marathon at Disney (of course! where else!)!

I'm Megan :) and I'm from the eastern shore of Maryland :)

Welcome to the Ducks Megan! :) :donald:

Liz, I'm so sorry to hear that you're having trouble again. That has to be very frustrating. Thank goodness you can still bike, and I'm sure that you will eventually be able to walk/run again.

Hang in there, and come here and talk about it anytime, that's why we're all here.....to support each other.

Thanks Sharon. I know I can tell you guys, but honestly I didn't even want to admit it to myself. I don't know what else to do to not get hurt, it's just silly now. And I will continue to wonder if I am just not meant to run. HOWEVER I am not giving up yet. I want to run and will keep trying!! Hopefully luck will be on my side at some point.

Liz  I am so sorry to hear of your situation. That is beyond frustrating! Biking is good cross training - try to think of it that way.

Hope things get better for you soon!

Wow, Liz! I won't say I know how you feel...because I'm not in your running shoes.

But I do remember about 12 years ago when I had really severe Plantar Fasciitis. The doc said, "Well, if running makes it hurt, then don't run anymore". He OBVIOUSLY wasn't a runner. This type of advice is useless to a real runner.

I guess I'm dealing with this again. I have a cardiologist who's told me, "Don't run". Right. Easy for you to say. You don't own running shoes. You don't know the feeling of endorphins spinning through your system. You don't know the feeling of accomplishment at the end of a 5K or 5 mile or 10 mile run. You don't get it!

But we do. The Ducks do. We really do get it, Liz. This is the place for you to whine and get mad. We're here to help you get through this...whatever that may be. Maybe it's more healing. Maybe it's different shoes. Or maybe orthodics. You're too young to hang your laces up. We believe in you. Do you believe in yourself?

Megan, Good luck with the Delaware Hospice event. It's nice it's near/dear to you.

Welcome back Renee - sent you a message back

Augie good luck and enjoy your rides

Liz- so sorry to hear of your frustrations, and hope you heal up quickly, glad to have you back with us -- thought, what about race walking? would you be using other muscles differently?

As for me - I timed my new tattoo (and other tattoo fix) between my 1/2 marathon and my family vacation for the best quiet healing time - and i'm still in healing process (both on my legs), so i'm looking at getting back on track next week. I am a slow healer and don't want to take any chances, so not putting extra stress on my legs for a few more days.

-- and for those curious- new one: sun and the words "joyful soul" around it above my left ankle...and the fix was on a butterfly/right calf.

TGIF Ducks!! :)

So yesterday I finally gave my new running shoes (Brooks Adrenaline) a whirl on the treadmilll. I had run on them at the store, but only for a few minutes. So anyway, I walked for 5 min then ran (at 4.5) for 10 min then cool down walk for another 5. Well, those shoes are going back to the store. My feet were hurting and I couldn't wait to take the shoes off. Bummer. So back I'll go, maybe tomorrow, and get something else. I really liked the Asics I had, I just needed them a half size larger. But the new model this year didn't feel the same. I'm going to try them on again tomorrow though.

Karin, Renee and Deb, thank you. :goodvibes

Karin yes you are right, at least I can bike. Maybe I'll start bike racing! ;)

Renee I do believe!! I think it's my body that doesn't...but it's running whether it likes it or not! ha

Deb yes I have thought about the fact that I may have to just walk. I'm not there yet but we shall see. I mean I can't just keep running and getting injured for years and years...so walking may be my destiny.

Liz, I'm a walker and love it! As long as I keep my speed up, I do get the endorphin kick and enjoy the feeling. Of course, I'm a lousy runner so that helps me with my choice to walk. Sometimes it's a wog, but way more walking than running.

Liz- I am so sorry to hear about ALL you are going through. as many have said, we are here to help and support you so go ahead and let us know. get mad, yell complain WHATever!!

I LOVE biking!! I find it fun, relaxing and just like running, you can find a group to go out and ride with.

Take things one day at a time and you'll get back to your old self soon enough!

As for me, I did 5 miles yesterday and Monday I have a 5k in my new neighborhood for Memorial Day.
Things are stressful as we are trying to close on a house and pack up and move from Brooklyn to New Jersey but the running helps even my emotions and gives me time to think on my own. I do need a Disney vacation though;)

LadyDooley...Best wishes on your move.

Hi Ducks!

This week has been pretty stressful and I learned one thing out of this week in regards to running: if you are truly emotional (or crying as I was, it's probally a wise idea not to try and go run!*

This week I ran on Wednsday here in Crisfield. From my house to the dock it is exactly 3 miles, and it took me 30 minutes to do that. I was not really out of breath when I got to the dock, *just hot!
*Thursday was a kinda a bad day for me because I was very emotional due to my grandmother's health. I left the house and took off for a run... and 15 minutes later I ran back into the yard. Lesson learned that I should not run when that emotional, I did almost 2 miles in 15 minutes! *

Today ( well I guess now it's no longer today, so Friday) I went and did a really easy run since my hip was a little sore thanks to my sprinting escapade. I ran for about 20 minutes and did 2 miles :)

Liz: I hope your tendon starts to improve! That sounds like an issue with the shoes, yuck!

Hello to my Duck friends, Happy Memorial Day!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far.
Liz: Sorry to hear about the leg problems, it's good that you can still train on your bike, hopefully things will heal up soon.
I had a nice run this morning, I managed 8 miles (pb distance). I felt really good, I think I could have went longer. I am really happy with myself, keeping up with my training alot of that is because of this group, having someone to train with online. Debbie is really proud of my, she hasn't seen me keep up with workouts like this. Since I started running she can't keep her hands off my butt, but that's a story for a different forum ;).

Well Stephanie has decided not to take the College Program job at WDW this fall. I'm not sure what the reason were, but she has registered for classes at Oakland University this fall. I think she was scared about being so far away for 4 months and a little concirned about getting out of the college mode and falling behind. On a positive note since we won't be going down at Christmas to pick her up, I am going to start planning for the WDW half marathon in January:cool1:.

I need a little advise. I really want to run the Air Force half marathon in Dayton Ohio this year, but it is 3 weeks before the Wine & Dine and I'm a little concirned about messing something up and hurting my chances for the Wine & Dine. If I keep my training on schedule and stay pain free during the summer, do you think its too much to run 2 half marathons a short time apart? I like going to the Air Force Museum at Wright Paterson AFB and I think it would be fun to do the run. They have a plane on display that I actually spent 3 years maintaining to keep it flyable. I was excited to see it again, it brought back a lot of memories of my time in England working the flight line.

I have my first race next weekend that I'm pretty psyched about, I will be doing a 10K on Sunday and the expo on Saturday this will be a new experience for me.

Everyone have a good Memorial Weekend.
Joe

Joe-- Hmm, I know what you mean about your spouse liking the runners body.. It took me to be almost 40 before I finally got into shape. Best thing I ever did!!!

I think you should be fine running the Air Force half. :confused3 I am no professional but people have done them closer together and it seems you are in a great running spot.

Happy Memorial Day to everyone!:sail:

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Karen: Good luck in your race tomorrow!
Megan: Hope your grandmother is doing better.
Joe: You are my hero if you do BOTH halves that close together.
I couldn't do it, but if you think you can, then YOU CAN!!!!

For me:
GREAT 5.8 miles yesterday, not so good today.
TMI note to self: Two Fiber one bars for breakfast before a run - NOT a good idea. :rotfl:

Joe- Congrats on the run this morning. Also you should be fine with them being 3 weeks apart. I am going to be doing the same thing around that time.

Karin

:scared1:Yikes! I can't even do one Fiber one bar! :rotfl: They just do not agree with me, luckily I found that out before using them as training food.

Good memorial Day morning to everyone.
Well I signed up today for the Air Force half marathon on September 18. I hope I'm not going to over do it, I want to do the Detroit half marathon, also. That will be 2 weeks after the Wine & Dine.

Fiber One bars are the Devil! forget regular they are over achievers:lmao:

Dan I see you recieved the award for answering my FaceBook question:thumbsup2

Have a good day everyone and remember our troops serving today and the ones that have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

Happy June Ducks! I'm so happy it's June. Only 8 days of school left after today and 19 days until our Disney trip!! :)

This weekend I did go back to the running store and exchanged my shoes. Got some Adidas to try out. Ran in them yesterday and along the bottom, right side of my right foot was hurting.:rolleyes::rolleyes: Back they go and I'll try pair #3. I really wish I could get last years model of the Asics I had! I searched online and they aren't anywhere.

Megan I'm sorry about your grandmother. Hang in there.

Joe bummer your daughter isn't doing the Disney thing now, guess it wasn't meant to be. Are you signed up for the Half? Needless to say I can't answer your question about two halfs so close...if I did that my body would probably fall completely apart! lol I bet you're excited about your race weekend coming up. :)
