Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

It is a nice ride, the streets are closed to traffic (which must piss off a lot of people who prefer cars...) and you see a lot of places you might not see. You ride up 6th Ave, through Central Park, through Harlem, into the Bronx for a very short time, down the FDR Drive, over the 59th St bridge into Queens. Up to Astoria Park (under the triboro) and then close to the water through Queens to Brooklyn. Down the BQE and over the Verrazano Bridge to Staten Island, and then a ferry back to Manhattan. About 45 miles. You have to watch out for all the other bikers, there are 35,000 doing this.

Very cool sounding bike ride. If I ever start riding again, I would definitely be interested in this.

How's everyone doing?

I did five miles today (in my new shoes) & it felt SO GOOD! I could have easily done more, but didn't want to push too much. FINALLY, my shoes are feeling good. NO PAIN! :cool1:

Just needed a tissue or two to keep up with this massive pollen.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Karen: I just realized I never answered your post abut running in SJ.

Where in South Jersey will you moving? Right now, I run around Rowan University, Alcyon Lake & Washington Township. I'm waay south, on the border of PA & DE.

Philly is only 10 minutes away, so Fairmout Park is very nice as well as Kelly Drive.

Then there's always the Jersey Shore.

GOOD LUCK with your move! :yay:

YOu are way farther south!

I am still going to be in Union County, but to me it seems very south compared to Brooklyn!!

I am really looking forward to some great running by the rivers...:thumbsup2

Wonderful!!
Great to hear about a pain free and good run. I did 7 miles the last two days.( 3 miles and 4 miles)
I had some pain, but good muscle building pain;)

Good morning all!!!

:yay:

I'm a new member of your team! I'm Andrea, 28 year old single runner from Delaware. In March, I completed my first half-marathon at Disney's Princess Half, and 2 weeks after that, I ran the NYC Half and knocked 10 minutes off my previous time. I'm planning on doing the full marathon in January, and if I can afford to, I'll be doing the Wine & Dine in October.

Also, I have a running blog, so feel free to read along. The URL is my signature :)

Hi Andrea, welcome. I'm in North Central Jersey - and also did the PRicness as my first half, and will be doing the Wine/Dine too. Look forward to getting to know more about you in the meantime!

I hear you on the crazy pollen this year

Hello Ducks! And Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms here! This morning I did the annual Mother's Day Duathlon, run 2, bike 10, run another 2. Brutal wind for the bike part, much more than in previous years. But, did it in 1:03, finished 16th overall (I think), and won my age group. So I am a happy camper, a nice way to get ready for a trip to DW. Four more days. I wonder how Joe is faring?

Have a great week!

Augie

Sound like you had a great race there!!

Wind really gets me down but first in your age group, awesome!!

I did a great run for me today... 4.5 miles in under an hour. I felt like I could do more but I was close to home,
I stated taking l-glutemine and I think that really helps me. I have better endurance and less pain overall.

Hi everyone, just checking in before we head off to AK. It has been great here so far, middle 80's low chance of rain. I got in a 4 mile run in yesterday morning around Cresent Lake and to Hollywoods Studios to Epcot. http://roadrunnergps.com/gps/shared/ApuB
This running trail is going to ruin it for me when I get back home and just have to run around the neighborhood and park;)
Everyone have a good week.
Augie I will be out on the Boardwalk at 7 am on Friday, I'll look for you.
Joe

Hello Ducks!!!

I hope this weekend gets you out and moving!!!

Put some Disney music on the iTunes and pretend you are there running in the magic!! :dance3:

Hello Triple D's.
I am still at WDW. We arre having a great time, perfect weather (mid 80's), low humidity and no rain so far. I managed to run twice this week for 7 miles. The trail at the Boardwalk Villas is great, to HS, back to Epcot and around the lake a couple times. I have been running with my camera so I won't miss anything. I don't think I have gained any weight since I've been gone. Debbie and arn't big eaters so we usually share our meals when we can. I have been posting a lot of pictures on my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/jreyno?ref=profile. Friend me if you arn't already.
I want to congratulate Dan, he answered my facebook picture question. He has been awarded the "Ultimate Hanna Montana Fan" certificate :lmao:.

I will be meeting up with Augie in the morning to do a run.:thumbsup2
Have a good weekend everyone.
Joe

Augie- congrats on your du, and your age group!

Lady- you're moving along great, glad you're finding something that works for you (the l-glutemine)

Joe- glad you got to see Augie on your run (FB) - and enjoy the running trail

Maddy- happy weekend to you too!

Liz- how is the TM working out for you?

---
as for me, I have a half tomorrow...nervous about it - since i have to maintain a quicker pace than my body likes to go, but i'll see what i can do....figure i can at least give it a go and there's no shame in that :) i'm okay with being slow, it means i'm not sitting on my duff like i've done for too many years

:goodvibesGood Morning Triple D's!!

Joe, sounds like a great trip; I wish our next trip was closer. :goodvibes

solar, hope your half went well.

What a great team we have. :goodvibes

This past week I've been a real slug, only 3 miles! Between weather and work, AND not wanting to get on the treadmill, I just didn't get near enough miles in. I did at least do my kickboxing and zumba classes, but I can sure feel the difference in not getting my miles in. Gotta do better this week!

Well I am going to try first race report from my first half marathon.

First off I would like to say the longest race I have done up to this point is a 14K.

I went to bed last night with all kinds of butterflies in my stomach, so needless to say I did not sleep well. All night I had split times running through my head (I had a goal to finish the race at or below 2hrs) and hoping my knee would hold up throughout the race. It had been feeling a little gimpy for the last few days. It seems just as I got to sleep it was time to get up. Got to the course roughly about an hour before race start time so I had plenty of time to mingle with other runners and stretch. One of the funniest sights I ever saw was about ten minutes before start time hundreds of men were making a mad dash to the wood line to use the bathroom, because the porta-john line was so long. Would not have been so bad, but it was in direct view of the start line.

The race started off on time and it only took me less than a minute to get to the start line. The first few miles were great with lots of crowd support and then the hills started. Wow my training did not prepare me for this, but I was determined to run the whole thing without stopping. Through the first five miles I maintained a steady 9:15 pace and it felt really good and the knee was holding up really well. At about mile five my bib number ripped from the sweat and I had to take several seconds to try and fix it (I was not a happy camper about this). Then at about mile six my bib number fell off again, I tried to fix it again, but got mad and shoved it in my pocket. By this time I had wasted roughly 45-60 seconds trying to fix that darn thing, but I kept it in my mind I was not going to try and make the time up and just keep with my original run plan.

At about mile six my knee started giving me a little problem as well, but I pushed through it and it started feeling better a mile or so later, or it just went numb. Then the hills started again and these made the first ones look tame, I forgot that when you go down in the beginning more than likely you have got to go back up again eventually. At about mile nine I had dropped my pace time to about 9:40, but I really did not mind. The hill between mile 10 and mile 11 was killer, but I made it through and felt great after I pushed up it. The last part of the race is a blur, but the sight of the large flag suspended over the route at about mile 12 I think and it gave me a new sense of accomplishment and then the sight of the finish line gave me a second wind and I picked up my pace. My Iphone died at mile 12 also, this normally would not be a big deal, but I use it for a GPS and run timer with an App I have. I will be investing in a regular GPS watch after this fiasco. I saw my family right before I crossed the finish line and it made all of the pain go away. As I slapped their hands and crossed the finish line, I felt like a million bucks. I finished with a time of 2hrs 4min and 23 sec. Just a hair over my goal time, but I will take it seeing that the hills probably accounted for the drop in time. Overall it was a very well run race and I am glad I picked this one for my first half marathon. The only thing I would change would be to do away with the biodegradable bibs.

It is safe to say this will not be my last distance race!!!!!

Dan, I'm really proud of you! Great job :thumbsup2

I completed my half yesterday - slow and steady - and got it done. My hamstrings are feeling yesterday's inclines, but otherwise I feel good this morning ---- seeing as I slept about all day yesterday, haaaa

Now that I've reached my goal of 3 half marathons within a 90 day period, I'm going to take a break. I'm just going to run for me, what I want, when I want and try to put the fun back into it -- while still making some progress with consistency, which is what I could use...a relaxed pattern. No races for me again until October --- but I'll continue to move my body through the summer.

Cheers, Deb

Hello Ducks! Just got back from a nice (but short) trip to DW. While there met up with je one morning while we were both out doing a morning run. Also had the nice experience of veiwing a shuttle launch.

Dan, good job on the half. Great time, and after all the hills you encountered, you will have no problem at any race at DW, they are all pretty flat.

Deb, congratulations on your goal of three halfs. You have done three times the number that I have done. Keep it up over the summer!

Have a good week, everyone!

Augie

Way to go Deb and Dan!!! Finishing and feeling good is the main goal!!

now if I could just get to your level of running ALL would be good ;)
