Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Hello Ducks! And hello to our newest members! Hope everyone is doing better.

Dan, did you not like the eliptical because you are still hurting a bit or because it was indoors? Too bad about the rain, we are supposed to havea real wet weekend.

Karin, the trip in Alaska sounds like it was pretty neat.

Liz, probably the next running I do will be the IWish also. But I am still on the bike a lot. And I just got back from skiing up in the Adirondacks.

Have a great weekend!

Augie

Dan, my PhD is in Health Policy. I am a full-time professor of Exercise Science & Wellness Management right now.
How are YOU doing everything at once???? I'm struggling & I've barely started training.
You are my idol! :worship:

Augie, Alaska was awesome. But BOY was it nice to have a hot shower & a bed!

Hello from the long-lost!

I have been away for 3 weeks and am catching up on many things including the Donald posts. Way to keep moving and inspiring those around you.

And I agree, never worry about a missed walk/run or a tired day. We are in this for the long-haul and are just getting stronger all the time!

Have a great weekend gang.

Hi Triple D's
Welcome to our newest members. I was thinking it is time for a little diversion from our aches and pains and other things on our minds. I know I could use one right now, my shins have been hurting since I ran outside last weekend and I have been really tired lately (I could only manage 18 laps in the pool yesterday for my cross training).
I was thinking this morning since this is a website for Disney fans, I thought I would ask, "What has been your best Walt Disney World day?"
I'll start, it was Christmas day 2006. Everything I read said stay away from the Magic Kingdom, so we went to AK for am EMH. The crowd wasn't too bad and we were able to do everything we wanted. At the Festival of the Lion King we sat at the Elephant section and the King came up to Stephanie (DD 14 at the time) and asked her if she wanted to demonstrate the sound an elephant makes for the crowd and she said no, so he looked at me and I jumped at the chance. If you knew me you would know that I am a pretty quiet and not an out going guy (Debbie was shocked), but Disney takes one out of their shells. So I'm standing up there and all I can think about is the episode from Carol Burnett where Tim Conway was talking about the siamese elephants that were joined by the nose and the only sound they could make was "SNORTKY", I didn't have the nerve to do that so I just made the trumpet sound. I had a huge grin on my face after that and made an awsome show even better. By the afternoon the sky opened up and soaked us, so we went back to our room at POFQ took a nap, had some dinner then decided at 7 to take our chances at the MK. The rain scared everyone away, so the crowd was very lite and the park was open till 3am. We had a great night and managed to stay till 2. The ride back on the bus was full of tired people and kids, but we still managed to sing a couple Christmas carols. Christmas at WDW was a fantastic vacation that everyone should try at least once. I'm already thinking about doing it again already.:santa:

I hope everyone has a great weekend, and hang in their!
Joe

Carissa,

Hang in there. I was feeling the same way the last two weeks when I was out and could not exercise. Getting back in this week was a real challenge. I made every excuse under the sun on Monday and then finally took the step on Tuesday. Be strong and don't make us come down there :lmao:

Thanks Dan. I'm planning on getting on the treadmill tomorrow morning. :thumbsup2 I may try to go ahead and do the virtual 5K since I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to do it.

That's a tough one. But, the first day to pop into my mind was on our last trip. We were at Magic Kingdom for my birthday. :goodvibes It was so cool to be walking around MK and having CM after CM wish me a happy birthday. :cool1: We also had a lovely dinner at Kona and finished the day with Wishes.

 Thanks so much for the warm welcome everyone!

Yes, Liz, the Pitman Race is on the Fourth of July - sorry I wasn't clear about that! (and it's always hot as NUTS!)

Got it. I was thinking that must be a hot one!! :sunny: I guess one better be prepared to lose a few pounds sweating! lol

Liz Can you put e down for the Marine Corps Historic half on May 18. These races are like crack you start one and you just want to keep on doing them. This is the last one I am going to sign up for though. The wife is not liking the added cost that they are bringing on :scared1:

Got it. It's on the 16th though. lol ;)

You do such cool stuff Augie!! :cool1:

Hey Sally, great to hear from you! :)

I was thinking this morning since this is a website for Disney fans, I thought I would ask, "What has been your best Walt Disney World day?"

Great question! I have several that have been amazing days...I'll have to think of just one...I'll get back to you on that!

Thanks Dan. I'm planning on getting on the treadmill tomorrow morning. :thumbsup2 I may try to go ahead and do the virtual 5K since I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to do it.

Good luck today! :shamrock:

Good luck to the 15 of us doing the IWISH race over the next 5 days!! :shamrock: I'm planning to do mine tomorrow.

Well, the good news is I got on the treadmill and did a run today. First time since last Saturday. :rolleyes1 Initially, I felt great. I was surprised at how good it felt to be running again. In fact, it felt so good that I increased my speed over what I normally do. The bad news is, that wasn't such a great idea for trying to do a 5k. :sad2: First mile was great, then I crashed - hard. I think the stomach bug I've been fighting the past few days has affected me more than I thought. So, the bad news is I didn't complete the 5K, but I did 2 miles and I am perfectly happy with that. :thumbsup2

Good luck to everyone else today! Does anyone want to do the last 1.1 mile for me? :rotfl:

Hope you're feeling better Carissa!

Phew! I did my IWISH 5K today. It was hard!! As I posted in the IWISH thread my time was 35:30, which is not good for me. But I'm trying to remember that I haven't run in 3 weeks, I had the hip injury and I'm still dealing with being sick. I am outta shape today.

I've got 9 weeks until my 10K...so I'm going to work on a training plan for that and start soon.

Good job with the 5K, Liz!. I see on the thread that a lot have already done it. I am going to wait until nicer weather, either at lunchtime one day this week, or one night after work. I have not run as much as I could have, so I am electing for the 5K. It has been raining here since Friday.

Best WDW day? That is a hard one, they are all good! Maybe the last trip in May when I met up with a lot of folks from the solo traveler board. Or maybe the time I went with my daughter to an E ticket night at MK (remember them) and we rode Space Mt 16 times in a row. Finishing the Half this year was one also.

Have a great week, and good luck to all the IWISH 5 and 10 K'ers!

Augie

Did my WISH 5K today, lousy time but I did get out in the cold wind and do it, so I feel okay about it.
I need to up my mileage, hopefully with nicer weather, I can work on it more. I just can't seem to make myself do more than 4 miles on a treadmill.

My favorite time at Disney....I've had so many good ones, that I'm can't really pick one. We've been so many times, and still, we never get tired of it.
It's our great escape and we thoroughly enjoy it.

First of all welcome new Ducks, Karin and Leanne! Glad you’ve come aboard. Good to see Jessica back, too. I really enjoy this group/team because there’s lots of support and positive spirit and “ducks in the same pond as me” here. Here’s hoping you’ll find the same!

It’s been a busy week for me. The great part is that I got in over 23 running miles this week, including the 10K I-Wish virtual race yesterday! I ranit in just under 60 minutes. I hadn’t planned on running a 10K for another few weeks, slowly work toward that distance. But then it dawned on me that running a 5K at this point wasn’t challenging enough, so I pushed it and made it. Woo hoo! Thanks, Liz, for planning and organizing this event. It really did help my motivation to break through to the 10K mark earlier than planned.

Trisha – Hope you’ve gotten a little bit of motivation back, if nothing else but to get outside and walk a good brisk pace. Remember that exercise is a good stress reliever, so it can only do you good!

Dan – That was a great finish time for your 10K, especially with your wobbly knee. Good on you! And good luck on the ½ marathon in May. Think your knee will make it?

Joe – I loved your best Disney Day report! Let me think about my best Disney day. I haven’t had hundreds, so this shouldn’t be too hard.

Carissa – My plan for today was to run an easy 5K after yesterday’s 10K, but I decided to belly up to the bar and help out my fellow Duck, so I ran 4.2 miles today…an extra 1.1 miles to complete your 5K. So you made it! Call it the Luck of the Duck! Hope you're moving more and faster soon. It'll happen, I promise.

To all - have a GREAT week! I'll try to get here more often.

Still waitin' for Deb to report in post-Princess 1/2 marathon. :rolleyes1 I know she's probably still down there, having fun, eating rice crispy Mickey Mouse heads (can you tell what's on my brain?!?), and fast-passing TSM waaay too much.

Hope she had a great run and good time doing it!

She is back home. I only know because of Facebook. Are you on there?

Good time on the 10K, Renee! I find when I am out running by myself that the times are slower than if I was in an actual race. Lately by almost 10 minutes off a race time. Must be due to not having anything to pace myself with, and not having the adrenilin rush of all the people around. But, it is good just to be out and active!

Still rainy here, but tomorrow it will clear up, they say.

Have a great day, everyone!

Augie

Deb checking in :thumbsup2

My DH and I were on a 2 week trip - and we just got in Saturday. Was an incredible experience and something I am really glad I did. I was a back of the pack, and that was fine by me...I finished my very first 1/2 marathon. What a feeling

My full report is here if you want to read it (warning, it's long):
http://www.debrunning.com/disney-princess-half-marathon-report.html

I'm slowly catching up on message boards and hope to read back and see what everyone has been up to. It may take me another day or two - to get fully caught up....and thanks for thinking of me.

Deb Great race and race report. You are an inspiration and you've got the medal to prove it!

Welcome to the even-newer-than-me members.:)

Joe - we just did that! we hit hilton head island right after our WDW trip...we had a gorgeous suite overlooking the ocean, absolutely lovely - and got to watch a rainbow form (see you at Wine/Dine) - i have a neoprene/velcro belt that holds my itouch..think it holds a blackberry too - think I got it on Amazon

Tricia - I'm sorry to hear your DH is having problems and not feeling well, hopefully he starts feeling better soon

Sharon- that's a full workout schedule! You rock...glad you enjoyed Zumba

Jessica- Hi! Nice to meet you

Augie- ooh, hope your skiing trip was awesome! My son and I did RnR coaster 5x in a row using the single rider line, fun times! Your Space MT story reminded me of that

LeLe- welcome to you! I'll be doing Princess next year, and just got back from doing it this year...what a great event! Such fun

--btw, I met TreeHuggnMama (not sure if that's how she spells it) at the end of the race from WISH and Tracy - was very nice to see WISH, and screamed out WISH when I'd pass WISH people on the side cheering us on (I was in red/team colors so wasn't in yellow/green...I yelled anyway!)

--to answer Joe's question - best Disney World day - I have a new one...finishing my first 1/2 marathon last week...running through the gates at Magic Kingdom, through the castle, through Epcot, backroads, just taking it all in.

--good luck to the virtual IWISHer's!
