Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

I have to agree withwhat Renee said, after you do a few miles, you feel like you canjust keep going. Within reason, I guess! When I did the Tot 13K I felt like Icould have kept on going (which gave me confidence in the half). And I felt pretty good at the finish at the finish of the Half, though the coldness was starting to get to me, and I was glad it was over. Maybe it is what they call the runners high. Sometimes I fell like I am not really tired but something else will become bothersome, I was on a long bike ride and though not tired the bottoms of my feet felt on fire.

Hope everyone has a good week. I feel good right now, went for a ride with a bike club for 30 miles, and when I came home wentright out and ran for 3 miles. Ithink I will get some lunch now......

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to being able to run for 20 - 30 minutes straight (or longer) and listen to a real playlist and just zone out.

Great workout! :cool1:

Been a good week. Turned 36, completed a 14K, and scored the best I have ever done on my PT test. Finished a 12 mile run this morning, will be sitting around recovering all day. Wife wants to go shopping , but not sure I am up for it. Really need to get out of the house though, such a beautiful day.

Got so much homework left to do before tomorrow. I've been working on my Masters in secondary education. This time next year I will be done :woohoo:

Week at a glance

Run-19 1/2 miles
Weights- 3 hours

Cheers
Dan

:bday: You are just about a month older than me. :rolleyes1 Congrats on the PT test! My husband is trying to workout hard on the ship and has started biking. He's planning on using the bike for his test for the first time. I'm hoping he gets his best PT test score ever too.

It IS a beautiful day! :goodvibes

Afternoon Ducks!

Hoping everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Out for 6 this morning. Felt good. Now its time to sit down and watch NASCAR and then later, NHRA.

Everyone - Keep up the great work!

:)

6 miles :thumbsup2

I took the boys to First Landing State Park here in Virginia Beach today. But, they had most of the parking lot closed up so we had to park further down and couldn't do the trail I wanted to. Had to use the main bike/jog trail. Lots of people out today. That will most likely be the trail that I do a lot of my long runs on so it was nice to check it out. Such a gorgeous day here today - sunny and 56.

Thanks everybody for the encouragement with my run - happy to be tapering and doing smaller runs this week. Can't wait to head to FL - NJ while we're sunny and in the 40's this week just isn't warm enough for me still. Looking forward to time off with my husband, sunshine and short sleeves, and goofing off with some running friends.

---

Carissa- great job on sticking with the C25K...you're doing great and congrats on adding more time to your running. Isn't it so much fun to watch your progress?

Emily- Princess sounded good to me because it's cold in NJ in March..ROFL, has nothing to do with princesses for me! LOL

Dan- it will be nice to have continued support for each other as we train through the year - and fun to watch our progress - my "go to" resort is Caribbean Beach - but I'm going to resort hop in March and check out Riverside - poke around. Crowds...I've heard good things about RideMaxx - and Tour Guide Mike or Touring Plans will help you with which days to go to which parks to help beat some crowds - Happy Birthday to you!

Cali - great job on getting back into your running. I won't be doing the 5k, but will be doing the 1/2 at the W/D -- I agree, the first 2 miles suck, then my legs warm up and it's easier

Liz- you need an Owners Locker to put your Christmas decorations in! LOL - i have one so I can pack lighter and love it. Glad your kids are finally feeling better! It's like one person gets sick and it passes from one to another until the entire household has had it!

Augie- I haven't been on a bike in probably 20 years...I keep hearing it's such a great complimentary exercise...one of these days I'll have to try it again! It's been awhile - how does so much time go by?

Laura- I love them...I want the one that says "Thanks to me you have someobdy to pass"...and own "Find Your Happy Pace"...the only thing is it holds "sweaty" smell a little more than my other shirts...not sure if it will for you too - I'm not fast :) won't ever be fast...I'm okay with that.

Joe - would be awesome if you got to sign up for WDW's 1/2 in Jan...hope they keep it there for you.

Vic- way to go on the 6 - enjoy your race!

Sorry about the absence work and kids keeping things real busy. Nice weekend for running sunny and in the mid thirties. I got the usaul 50 miles running and about 60 on the bike. Trying to figure out a race to run this summer looking around for something new and interesting. Rich

i finished up the week at 15.1 miles (total for the week). i have been sick and barely got through four-mile runs (normally, i run five). my legs felt like lead earlier in the week. and i skipped a few runs. i actually got out this afternoon (normally, i do not run on sundays because of church) to make up a bit of the deficit. so, that put my over my 14 mile goal. i'm hoping to make up for the rest of what i missed earlier this month with what i run next week. i'm also hoping that i'll feel up to five-mile runs again. normally, i feel like i can push through. but this week, i've just wanted to be DONE.

carissa, i'm with you. i'm working on endurance and will worry about speed later! i know that 20-minute run sounds daunting at this point. i felt the same way (when i did c25k). but honestly, it wasn't that bad. i kept telling myself that i'd take a quick walk-break if i had to. but i never had to! you can do it!!!

marathonmommy i love it! slow is the new fast! as long as you finish, time is just a number!

airman, four trips in one year! that sounds like a dream! :thumbsup2

dan great job this week!!! and good luck on your masters. my dh went through that when DD8 was a baby. it was great when he finished! and happy birthday!!

big vic, woo hoo on the run this morning!

rich, sounds like a good (albeit TIRING) week!

This past week has been a bit of a step-back for me in terms of overall volume, with a total of just 22 miles (on the heels of 41 miles previous week). Still haven't picked a spring marathon, but am getting more and more serious about my thoughts about doing an ultra this July. Trying to keep my "base training" volume relatively high so that I can do a half on a whim or a full with relatively little notice (for when I finally pick one). We'll see how that strategy pans out I suppose.

Happy Monday Ducks! Just like some of you, we had a gorgeous weekend here, sunny and in the 60's. :sunny: Spring fever was in full swing with lots of people out walking and running, doing yardwork, cleaning garages and kids playing outside from dawn til dusk... :goodvibes

I cleaned our garage on Saturday and then we took a big load of stuff to charity that afternoon. I love getting rid of things, and the icing on the cake is that the charity I take all our things to is for a women's shelter where the people staying there get to pick first out of everything donated and the rest is sold to the general public with the proceeds going back to the shelter. I love knowing that there is only one middle-man between my donations and those who need them.

Yesterday I did a 4 mile run, no stroller, so my time was 42:50. That's exactly 3 minutes faster than my Friday run with the stroller.

Today is very rainy so it's an inside chore day.

Update on the IWISH 5K/10K: Out of the 18 members of our team, 12 of us are participating! That's awesome you guys! :shamrock:

Renee~Yes, my 5 yr old was able to stay at school all day on Friday, yay. He has some lingering minor cold symptoms, but otherwise we are all healthy for now! :wizard:

Good luck with the speed work stuff...honestly I haven't spent any time trying to understand it myself yet. Whatever I end up doing I can guarantee it will be SIMPLE! If it's not simple, my eyes will glaze over!

I know exactly what you mean by "cruise mode". It's wonderful when you go into it and you can just keep going and going!

Laura~Great shirt. lol

Dan~A belated Happy Bday to ya! :) The signature looks great. :thumbsup2

Yeah, it really is surprising that it can be that low of crowds then. I have posted about our experience that day many times here on the DIS, but I'm sure some people do not believe me. It is hard to believe until you experience for yourself.

I have a question for you: since that will be in the thick of marathon weekend training, how will you incorporate running into your trip? Or will you just not run that week? I'm thinking I want to run at least twice down there...one shorter run and one longer run. SSR is a great place to run since it's big and has lots of pathways. I can run over to the Treehouses, DTD, over to OKW... I just hope I don't get down there and say, "eh, I don't need to run this week." I REALLY want to do those two runs. I just have to keep it as a priority. My dh is fine with whatever, so it's just me who needs to stay strong and not blow off my runs to have more park time or whatever. :)

Joe~That's great you'll get to be in Orlando again for your meeting. My dh loves it when work takes him to Orlando and he gets to have some fun!

Deb~Yeah I've heard great things about Owner's Lockers, glad you like yours! Since we drive down we are good to bring our stuff along. If we were flyers I would definitely consider getting one.

Keep up the great work everyone! :donald:

Liz,

I have thought about this a couple of times and looking at the calendar the weekend of Christmas starts the tapering time. I know I will get up early the day after we drive down and run, because I will need the stretch (amazing as I get older the more I hate driving long distances) and I would like to get in at least another medium run during the week. It will definitely be a test to see if I can mentally get up and go run half way through the vacation. Like you I just have to keep telling myself it is a priority. I am usually up by 6am anyways and by the time my wife and kids get up and get going I could probably have 2-3 runs in :rolleyes1 I ran one time before while we were at Riverside but they only have like a mile and a half trail, so I will be looking for another one.

The other problem is I know my legs are going to be exhausted form all of the walking through the parks so I will probably pick a day where I know we are not going to do a lot of the Park.

You never know we may pass each other on our run..LoL

We might, that would be funny. :) Come on over to SSR/DTD where there's lots of paths to run!

Unlike you, I am not an early riser. I love to sleep in as long as possible. But I will HAVE to get up and get my runs in early during the trip or they just won't happen. I'm going to put my run mornings into our trip plans...they will be just as important as going to MK!

My taper will be 2 weeks long (well, as of this moment it will, maybe it will be 3 by then. lol), so it will start after our trip. So I have to make that last week of training, while we're in WDW, decent enough! Really, I should run 3 or 4 times that week if I were being really good... But, I know myself and I think 2 runs will be all I can muster!

OK, don't get crazy...nothing is as important than going to MK :rotfl2:

I can make 13 for you, but missed the info on it . . . I don't get on here much and all I usually do is click my CP. What are the details? I'm game.

Happy Tuesday Triple D's! :dance3:

I started week 5 of the program today and it went better than expected. Three 5 minute run intervals and I made it through all of them. Saturday will be the day I have to run for 20 minutes straight. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement! :goodvibes

Good Job Carissa..Keep up the good work, the hard part is done now.:thumbsup2

I don't know. The 20 minute run is sounding pretty hard right about now. :rotfl: But, I do feel a bit better about it after today's run.

The hard part is always starting the exercise program...you did that and kept on with it :goodvibes

That is true. I wake up every day and know what I have to do. I don't even try to talk myself out of it. I guess after 5 weeks a habit has been made. :cheer2:

You will get to a point (like I did yesterday) where you feel guilty at the end of the day for not exercising.

Morning Ducks. I am not a happy one today. Yesterday morning (or maybe during Monday night) I developed pain in my right hip/lower back area. It is a sharp, shooting pain that seems to start in my upper hip and then radiate out my lower back, into my other hip, and also down my right leg. It makes my leg weak. It almost brought me to tears a few times yesterday and as I sit here typing this it's pretty bad. No idea if this is from running, or just a random thing. I took 220mg of NSAID yesterday and I don't think it helped. I just need to rest I think.

Anyway, no running until this is gone. It's so annoying and frustrating.

Carissa~ I'm glad week 5 is going well for you! That W5D3 run is intimidating, but exciting too. You can do it!

Laura~ I've got you down for the IWISH 5K. :thumbsup2 13 of us participating now, yay! :shamrock:

Oh no! I hope it's gone quickly and turns out to be nothing. Take care of yourself!
