Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Hi everyone. Welcome to those even newer here than me!

It's been a fairly quiet week of running as I have a race this weekend - the Valentine's Half on Feb. 14th. I have been supplementing with Pilates to balance the easier running regime. Next week will be easy then I'll begin training properly for another half in May at which I hope:worship: to have a PR.

Happy trails and treadmills, DDD!

No. I won't be anywhere near ready by then. I'm going to do my first race on August 29th and that's just a 5K. Then the Blue Moon Wicked 10K on October 30th. Both will be run on the boardwalk.

Did you see my post and link yesterday for Mt. Trashmore?

We have drove by it, but never stopped. Once it gets nice we will definitely have to go over there. My kids love parks...

Been a pretty good week... 7 on Monday, 8 on Wednesday, elliptical this evening for 11 miles. Should get out for 11 on Sunday as well. Feeling pretty good, now just need to find some races to do this spring. Any suggestions for a spring marathon?

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!!!!

Quick couple of questions:

-- is there a format or certain location for posting weekly exercise times? Is this running time only or does it include gym/weight time?

Thank You
Dan

So far this year there isn't an official posting of weekly exercise times. Many will still post minutes/miles (like me) because it helps some of us stay on track. Post everything, running, walking, weights, any cross training.
If I'm wrong about this, someone please correct me. :goodvibes

I don't think there's really any official way to do this, either a requirement or a preferred format. If you'd like to post, please do so, if not, that is ok too :)

If other factors didn't play in, I would do the Rock n Roll Nashville Country Music Half Marathon on APril 24. But alas, it's not in the financial cards for me. Do it - I can live vicariously through you.

14K race is over. My first race is in the books. 74 Minutes 14 Sec (unofficial).

Alas, that would definitely be a lot of travel for me (I live in NH), especially for "just" a half. Do they do a full in conjunction? Still would be a lot of travel, but I feel easier on myself justifying it for a longer event.

Hi all!,
Welcome Dan, Go Air Force!, we'll all have to compare where we were all stationed.

Deb, Ypsilanti is pronounced ips-ill-anti, the town was named after a Greek general from the early 1800's the setlers read about in the paper and thought he was a hero worthy of having a city named after him.

Liz, we are thinking of doing the Segway tour at Epcot this May, is it worth it? We are staying at Boardwalk Villas, so we can walk early to the park.

I had a good week training, 2 miles on Monday, 3 Tuesday, 2 on Thursday and 4 miles today (a personal best, so far). My shins are still holding out and I am very excited about that. :cool1: I also did 30 laps in the pool.

I am hoping to get a couple of runs outside next week, I will be in Las Vegas for my businesses national meeting. I just downloaded an app for my blackberry to track my milage and pace with the gps.

For you Facebookers, I am using an app on FB from Brooks Shoes that is pretty good for keeping track of milage, time and cross training. It's a pretty good program.

Everyone have a good week.
Joe :donald:

Hey Joe - Congrats on your personal best of 4 miles. :thumbsup2

Do you know the exact name of the app? I tried doing a search for Brooks Shoes, but only seem to have found their fan page.

Carissa, search brooks running club for the app.

Friend me, do a search for Joe Reynolds, Ann Arbor, MI my profile picture is of me and Debbie in year of a million dreams Mickey Ears.
:earsboy:

Carissa---Yes it was 32 degrees at the start with a 5-7mph wind and light snow, it wasn't too bad until the end, where it was blowing right in your face. Not sure who's bright idea it was to put in running up into the amphitheater at the end, but the hill sucked.

Joe--I have been stationed at Griffiss AFB NY, Shemya AK, Goodfellow AFB TX, Scott AFB IL, Lackland AFB TX, back to Scott AFB, Misawa Japan, and currently Langley AFB VA. Getting tired of moving.

Liz--I am signed up for the Fort Eustis 10K (26 March) and Rock and Roll half marathon in September (can't remember the exact date)

Official score for todays 14K 73min 13 sec. For my age group of 35-39 I placed 42 out of 134.

Weeks running log Sunday 10.5, Tuesday 3, Thursday 5, Saturday 8.7 (total27.2)

I didn't even know it was supposed to snow today until I got up and looked outside. :sad2: 42 out of 134 is awesome!! You did great for your first race. :cool1:

My husband was stationed in Misawa many years ago. He loved it (well, he loved the area - not sure about the base).

Dan, great job on your first race!!

my goal for february was to run 14 miles a week and i'm going to miss it this week. today was to be my last run. but i am coming down with something and just cannot get out and run tonight. :(

last week, i had my first 5k, so i did shorter runs during the week. i'm way behind now.

february week one: 13.06
february week two: 12.7

if i'm feeling better tomorrow evening, i may try to get out and pick up a quick two miles. my week runs monday through sunday, so that would work. :)

Dan, that is a great time for a 14K. Congratulations!

Regarding the bases I was stationed at, it was Lackland (I guess everyone goes there!), Lowry in CO (I think that is closed now) Shaw in SC, and Rhein-Main in Germany (I think that is closed also)

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, and Happy Valentine's Day!

Augie

This week I did 8 miles on Tues -- and haven't run since...not good. Going to do 3 today, but shoveling was my cardio this week (not by choice, but by need!) and now they're calling for another snow fall (up to 8 inches) on Monday...I'm so over snow.

Carissa- congrats on your continued success with your C25K - doesn't it feel great to advance each session?

AUDisneyDad- hope your shins are feeling better soon

Liz- glad your son was finally able to return to school - also thanks for taking the time to do the race and state info -

Sharon - I agree, fun that so many are signed up for W/D all ready

Dan - i hope you find something that works with your schedule - congrat on your 14k!

Sally - glad you were able to get some workouts in - good luck on your Valentine's Day 1/2

Tim- great job on the training...where are you located? ok, just saw NH...there's a Pocono one in May - what distance are you looking for? RaceForum.com has a nice list of stuff, active.com, etc... (at marathon maniacs there's as schedule to check too: http://www.marathonmaniacsdb.com/Maniacs/UpcomingRaces.asp )

Joe- Love it! that's for the phonetics on your town name! nice job with the consistent workouts - as for programs, I love Runner's STudio (software - i know dailymile.com, runningahead.com are free, but I adore my software - don't have to be online for it either -it's desktop)

Emily - congrats on getting your running in, even if it wasn't the mileage you wanted-- hope you're feeling better soon

Deb - I feel for you with the snow! I grew up in Maine so I can totally relate. Hope you're able to get back to running regularly. I see you've lost 34 pounds! That's awesome! Was it just from beginning to run or did you change some other stuff?

I'm excited to start week 4 on Tuesday. :cool1: Today, I'm doing the virtual 5K. Getting ready to start in a few. As long as I can keep my time under an hour, I'll be happy. :rotfl:

Carissa- I wish I had a better excuse..I have a very good quality TM in my dining room - just have been worn out from the snow! I'll be on it today. As for the weight loss- I've been following a weight loss plan with my doctor. (Thanks, I still have 70+ to go, but it's been a great boost with running combined) I started both within 2 weeks of the other...

Good luck on your Virtual 5k today- you're doing great sticking with the C25k -it's how many people start..it's a great program.

I'm done with my Virtual Vday 5K! Time: 34:10. Which I am actually quite happy with considering I've only run twice since the Disney Half! :)

I'll catch up on posts later...But...

Happy Valentine's Day Ducks! :flower3:
