Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Good morning Ducks! What are you all up to today? Some of you owe us updates, bigtime!! :wizard:

I got the thumbs up from dh on getting our treadmill repaired. :thumbsup2 He's going to get the ball rolling on that this weekend. I'm thinking we can sell the garage treadmill and maybe even sell the jogging stroller and put the money from those towards the repair.

My poor 10 yr old is on his 7th day of missing school. :( He is mainly just exhausted. He even speaks in a whisper sometimes as he is too tired to fully talk. I just keep giving him lots to drink and as much to eat as he will tolerate (he has decreased appetite too). And he rests non-stop. I hate the flu.

Deb~ Congrats on your longest run yet! I know I was always excited with each of my newest-longest runs. It's a great feeling!

To all of you dealing with the winter weather, hang in there!! Spring will come!

Hi Carissa - welcome to the Ducks

I did an 8 mile run today - my longest yet! It was a nice confidence booster, as the Princess 1/2 is getting close!

Thanks for the welcome and congrats on a great run! :thumbsup2

Yay for getting the treadmill fixed! And poor boy. :( I remember when Sully had the flu last year or the year before. He just spent a week lying on the couch and barely eating. And he ended up with an ear infection with it too.

Hey Ducks, I just had a thought, I'm going to start a list of our upcoming races and Tricia you can post it in the first post if you want to. :) It'll be a Triple D version of what Vic does for the entire WISH team. I'll go through the thread and gather what has been posted so far and I'll post the list here in a bit....

Sounds cool to me. :goodvibes The Blue Moon Wicked 10K I'm doing is October 30th.

Yeah sounds like Sully was just like he is now. ugh.

Thanks for your 10K date! I'll be doing a 5K "with" you that day! :)

Cool! Will you be wearing any sort of costume? I guess people dress up for it so I might come up with something - just a shirt and/or hat. Nothing that would bother me when I'm running.

I'll have a 5K or two to add in there once I decide which one I'm doing.

No, no costume. There were a very small amount of people in costumes last year. Mostly just regular running gear though.

Keep me/us posted on your other races! :) I sure wish I could do more! But, well you know....not enough time. :(

Oh, come on, Liz! Wear a costume! It's halloween!

My friend and I think we might do the Minnie thing at the next WDW Half or Full! Ears, skirt, etc . . . fun!

lol Maybe I'll stick a jack-o-lantern sticker on my running top just for you. ;)

The Minnie outfit sounds fun! I love seeing the people in WDW drressed up. I really want that mini dot skirt from runningskirts.com....I've been wanting it since I started running a year ago!

here it is, so cute! (Sorry for the girly talk guys! lol)

Welcome to the Ducks Carissa. And thank you Liz for your help. I love the races list you started on the first page - GREAT idea!

I am so glad so many of you will be doing the Virtual Valentine's Day race "with" me. It doesn't matter what our times are - mine probably won't be that great considering I have only walk/run maybe 3-4 times since the Goofy. Do whatever distance you can manage on that day. I might do the 10k instead of the 5k but again will decide that probably on Sunday morning.

What do we want to do about miles? Not sure what everyone wants to do about miles? I am for one don't feel like being responsible for keeping track of everyone's miles because I know I won't be able to keep up with it. Tracy from the Warriors was nice enough to create a Google Excel spreadsheet for our team that I can post a link to if anyone wants to keep track of their miles on that. Otherwise I think its great if you just want to report them here and not keep track of them. Whatever works for everyone. Please give me feedback.

Carissa - don't feel bad about any time you post. We are an accepting bunch here and let me be the first to tell you I am not speedy. I have been running/walking for 2 1/2 years and am not very fast. I made it through the Goofy doing a run/walk of 5 minutes run, 3 minutes walk. This year I plan to work on my speed and better cardio (so I don't have to do so much walking and feel more comfortable when I am running) I think its AWESOME that only 3 weeks into C25K you are going to get out there and do a 5k.

Deb - Congrats on your longest run so far. I remember how exciting it was to hit each new milestone. Your doing great.

Liz - Sorry to hear your son is still sick. Hoping he starts to feel better really soon. Poor thing sounds miserable. And here is a hug for you

I also, don't want to be responsible for tracking everyone's miles. I know I'd fall behind! I do like reporting my miles/minutes here, as it helps me get out and get going on the days that I really don't feel like working out.
Anybody else?

So we may be switching places then..I had planned for the 10K but I'm thinking it will be the 5K now. I'll just go out there and see what I feel like doing. I know I could do the 10K if I did it REALLY slow...so I'll just wait and see.

I personally don't have a desire to officially track for myself or anyone else either. (Maybe someday I will, I don't know?) Leaving it up to each individual gets my vote. If one wants to track and post their stats, then they go ahead, if not, then they don't. And if anyone wants to volunteer to be the team tracker and use that spreadsheet or however they want to do it, that would be fine too. Those are my thoughts Tricia, hth!

Once I finally start running regularly again I will sometimes report, just in a casual way in my posts, what I've done (miles and/or time) and sometimes not, it'll just depend on what I feel like doing.

Liz - Sorry to hear your son is still sick. Hoping he starts to feel better really soon. Poor thing sounds miserable. And here is a hug for you

Thanks so much. :goodvibes I think he MIGHT be a tad better today. He has a bit more energy..fingers crossed.

I think I followed a link you posted somewhere for the skirt with the capris tights. I really like those. :thumbsup2

My miles will be low for a while, but I'm fine with just reporting casually.

Thanks - I know I shouldn't worry about my time. I keep telling myself I should be proud if I end up being "dead last finisher." :rotfl:

I also meant to mention that I'll be doing the 5K on my treadmill. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to keep track of my intervals, increasing/decreasing my speed, and my miles/time all while just trying to get through the whole thing! I think longer intervals will work better for that reason. I do have a stopwatch feature on my phone, but I just want to keep everything as simple as possible.

I'm not into the podcasts for running, but I wonder if there's one out there that would help you with this?

That's the one! Although, I think in real life, that skirt made some not-so-big girl's butt's look larger than they were. I can't afford that kind of magnification! :scared1: I may need to look for another one when the time comes closer. I'm definitely not running with Tink wings, though!

Emily, how did it go Saturday?!?! I was thinking about you!

i'm sorry i missed this! i can't remember where i posted what! lol!

it rained most of friday and overnight into saturday. and it did rain through part of the race (not pouring). it was kind of chilly. thankfully, the wind wasn't as bad as it normally is at folly beach.

lots of HUGE puddles covering the roads. sometimes, we were in a line to get around. one line was so long that i just ran through the middle of the puddle.

it was a VERY low-tech race. they did not have chips. start was when they started (regardless of when YOU crossed the line). and they wrote down when you finished. although, DH has the picture of me crossing at one time and their official time for me was later. my nike plus has me finishing right at 30 minutes, which was my goal.

next race, i will try to get a little closer to the front at the start. i was about mid-way back. and it took me until the first half-mile to really get away from the slower runners. it was on a two-lane road with only a small amount of grass on either side. so, we didn't have a lot of passing room. once we spaced out, i found my usual pace and kept that up.

all in all, a nice first race. i'm hoping the next one isn't as cold and wet! i am going to sign up for a 10k at the end of march.

and now, DH is going to try to start running. i hope he keeps it up. :) i'm trying to be his cheerleader, but he doesn't want any cheering! ;)

I'm not into the podcasts for running, but I wonder if there's one out there that would help you with this?

I found a podcast here:

http://www.motiontraxx.com/

It does intervals for 30 minutes of 1 minute jog/1 minute walk. Most of the speeds/bpm are too fast for me, but I can deal with that. I can go at my own speed and just use the dings for increasing/decreasing. I can just start over after 30 minutes or by then I may be about dead and need to just walk the rest of the way. :rolleyes1
