Boy, you turn your back on the DIS for a day and next thing you know, the Ducks are on page 5!

Welcome back, Vic! Hope you find some encouragement and support here for your running. Because no one here will support you working longer hours. :rotfl2:

And welcome, Jenny! The Duck pond has plenty of room. Come on in, the water's great! And the people are a lot of fun.

The snow CONTINUES to fall up here. And fall. And fall. I'm so sick of shoveling. Temperatures were around minus 7 degF for our high today. And running on the treadmill is a drag. Is winter almost over yet?

Hope the tail feathers of the ailing Ducks from last week's runs get better soon so you can get back at it!

... Carrisa - Anything below 50 is cold around here. It's been in the 20s the past few mornings. (In my best Johnny Carson voice) It was so cold I saw a squirrel burying Sterno! :lmao: Of course, I'll take cold over hurricanes any day. ...

I had to google Sterno....and John Force... lol

Liz I altered your Speedy picture to look more like Augie.

CONGRATS Ducks to everyone who ran Marathon Weekend, no matter what the distance! :worship:

I've been away from the boards for a week or so--been concentrating on trying to win some compression tights on E-Bay--Lol. And on scouting the airfares like the stock market for Princess weekend. Paid-off & I got a great deal. Whew. Glad that's over.

Now onto getting my brain to accept that I have to do 9 miles on the dread mill tomorrow. Thank goodness for Netflix.

Of course I'll have to keep that 9 miles a secret from my PT.:rolleyes1
Hopefully the knee holds out.

Welcome to 2011 Ducks:banana:

Refresh our memories, what's going on with your knee? Do you have runners knee like me?

Hope your 9 miles goes well!

I'll add you to the team list! :thumbsup2

... Here's a funny:
My husband, Bryan, downloaded all my Garmin info from the marathon & he could tell exactly where my pee stops where.
Like Mile 23 when it took me over 18 minutes to finish the mile! :rotfl:
There were only TWO potties & a line!

I LOVE MY GARMIN!
(O.K., I'm a little behind w/technology) :rotfl2:

 I wonder how long my pee stop was in MK... Carissa and I stopped at the bathroom by Pinocchio's which by the way was EMPTY and glorious! I felt like I was in a spa and didn't want to leave. So yeah, I took my sweet time in there and thoroughly enjoyed myself. My dh figured that I spent several minutes in there!

Nope....she's not alone. This duck is in, too!

Then, I'm doing the National Half in March, and the Island 2 Island in Ocean City MD in April. Can't wait to choose one for May!

I envy you doing all those races!! :cool1:

I don't have the right to complain about winter nearly as much as you do, but yeah, I am READY for spring! There is a slight bit of warmishness in the air here this weekend and it feels so good!

:)

WAAAHAAAAHAAA!, YES!, you are correct (in my best Ed McMann voice)

Afternoon Ducks! Hoping everyone is doing well.

On the TM for 5 this morning. I can't remember the last time I did 5 miles. Felt good though. A walk/jog sort of thing.

Liz - We military men know all about Sterno, and tobasco sauce. Something to heat it up and something to give it flavor. ;)

CALIFLADY - Thanks! :)

I'm an old Duck. I was a good Duck in 2009. I was a bad Duck in 2010. I'd like to rejoin the raft for 2011.

My first half marathon was WDW in 2010. I did two more in 2010 and plan to do my first marathon in a few months (St Louis, April 10). Training is going well. The weather has become a problem with snow cover and stupid temps - I'm in Kansas City. It's forced me to the TM... 10 miles on the TM 1/8. Horrible. I took it outside yesterday. Not too cold, but footing made it challenging. Back to the TM.

If I can do the marathon distance I'm in for Mickey in 2012.

Great to see all the recovery runs and read about marathon weekend successes.

Ronda

Sterno? Boy I'm outta the loop. I'm guessing it's some sort of camp heating device? Lol.

M'thonmom- May 1st is the Broad Stree Run in Philly & the end of May, not sure the date, is the Williamsburg 1/2. Free tics to Bush Gardens A Colonial Williamsburg to runners. Btw, how'd you make out w/ your shirt?

I am soooo proud of myself today! Ended up doing 10miles on the dreadmill & most of that while watching Bob the Builder & trying to keep my 2 year old away from the machine!

Is Shannon the only Duck doing the Princess?
What's up with your knee?

Hope your 9 miles goes well!

LOL! Love the Garmin story! I have a similar one. My boss, who introduced me to running (or more accurately- stalked me about every 5k around till I committed) apparently likes to look up the finish times for people he knows doing various races. And apparently you can look up a persons splits for the Wine & Dine, and apparently he looked at mine and wondered 'what happened' after mile 3. Well there I was faced with telling him how my knee went out & then I became violently ill & had to hit every blessed potty & bush between mile 3 & the finish! Can you say T-M-I?

as for the knee, runners knee, jumpers knee weak core & glutes. So, other leg muscles get over taxed, tensed, & pull out the knee. So far w/much PT I'm doing much better. No trouble w/ it today for 10mi, but that was on the TM. Ma

Shannon OMG! Your boss! :lmao:
Yep, I have the SAME THING as you with my knee.
I'm starting lifting again today - I should have kept it up all along. :sad2:

WELCOME Vic, Jenny & Ronda!

I did three miles yesterday on the treadmill.
No pain. YAY for KT Tape. I should have used that during the marathon instead of my knee strap.

Liz, are your boys back in school today (MLK day) or tomorrow?
I start back today.

Welcome back Ronda!!

I have been having a problem with my knee since the full last Sunday. I think its a case of Runner's Knee - aggravated because my foot was broken years ago and all my leg problems seem to be on that same leg. 1st it was PF and a really achey arch, then my hip bothered me (which it still does on occasion) and now this year the knee. Probably should stretch and strength trained more so I am going to work on that this year.

I did manage to go out for 4 slow miles yesterday. I didn't bring my interval watch but I did use my Runkeeper to keep track. I would run a little until the knee bothered me and then walk until the knee felt better. It worked and I felt good for getting out.

I have somewhat changed up my goals for 2012 Disney marathon weekend. I found out the age limit for the half is 14 (I thought it was 16) so when I told my almost 14 year old niece she was SO excited about doing her first half. So my goal this year is to train her so we can run 2012 half together - although she may end up smoking me at the end!! I know her and she will want to stick with me the whole way until the finish line and then she will take off and leave me in the dust. But I am ok with that. So it may not be looking like a Goofy year again next year. Who knows I may end up getting a PR for the half. This could be fun!!

Hope there's room in the pond for me, Tim (Central Alabama)

I'm back after taking a week off to reflect on the next great adventure, the 2012 WDW Full! I think I'm ready for that challenge after completeing two wdw halves. Anyway that will be some serious soul searching for that decision.

It has been awesome to hear about everyones races. Also I hope everyone that has injuries heals quickly. Good luck training all!

Joe: I saw that you are planning on running the Champion 5k in March, I'm planning to run it also with my brother. Maybe if a few more ducks show up we can meet up for drinks.

Good job on your 5!

Welcome back Ronda, great to hear from you! So you're going for a full, woohoo! You and I were on the same track for awhile there, but I will not be joining you in your full endeavor...I'm sticking with the half distance, atleast for the foreseeable future!

....I am soooo proud of myself today! Ended up doing 10miles on the dreadmill & most of that while watching Bob the Builder & trying to keep my 2 year old away from the machine!

WOW. That is quite an accomplishment! I've been challenged with trying to complete a longish run on my tm with my 4 yr old around....driving me crazy at times. WTG!

I start back today.

My boys are off today. They had the 4 snow days last week, then a 2 hr delay Friday. So a whopping 4.5 hrs of school last week. And then thankfully this 3 day weekend to recuperate from it! But they go back tomorrow and have NO days off until spring break (April 18-22)!

Good job on your 3 and YAY for no pain and KT Tape!

Good job on your 4, and it's great about your niece and the half! I hope my boys will be interested in doing halfs when they are of age!

As for me....I know what my next race is going to be...will share with you all soon! I'm EXCITED!!! princess:

I do have a few races lined up for the next couple of months.
January 29: Brenda Ladun 8k Cancer Run
February 5: Heart & Sole 5k
March 5: Champions 5k (WDW Studios)
April 3: Talladega 21000 Half Marathon
May 21: Xterra Oak Mt Mud Run 10k Trail Run (Possibly the 20k)

I've just now made my way over to this thread. I wasn't too good of a Duck the end of 2010 after the Battleship 1/2, but I'm back! :)

Hi I am new to the WISH Boards so forgive me if I am posting this in the right spot. Is there a group for new-ish runners? I have never run a 5K let alone a half or a full.... but my goals for 2011 are to run a Disney 5K and start training for the 2012 Half! I mostly walk/run on my treadmill and hope to make the move to start running outside soon. As in this weekend! Anyhow just looking for some inspiration and I certainly have found it over on the WISH Boards. Thanks so much - Robyn :flower3:

Joe: I saw that you are planning on running the Champion 5k in March said:
Tim: We should try to meet up before the start of the race. My DD's bf is doing the 5k with me, we check out that morning and head home. I will pm my cell phone number later, maybe we can meet up for a drop on ToT. That can be a Duck tradition.
I was looking at the rundisney.com website the other day (I shouldn't have done it). I think Debbie and I are going to do the Everest race in May. Our annual pass expires that Monday after race weekend, so we thought it was a good way to finish a great year with the AP. :thumbsup2 I need to keep an eye out for some good flights and hope for some AP discounts to come out.
Have a good week everyone.
Joe
