Don Imus in trouble again?

If Jones were white, would Imus had noticed, cared or commented on it?

Isn't that the point of Dawn's comment?

Would you care as much about what Imus said if Jones was white?

I didn't see anyone on this board decrying the racist comments of Spike Lee and demanding that he be fired for his racist comments when he declared that under an Obama administration he will ring in a "Chocolate City". Or did I miss something? :confused3 Would anyone have been offended if someone suggested the McCain would have a "Vanilla City"? Spike Lee is what he is. So what?

But but but... If you listen to Spike Lee, you can expect these things. Don't like it? Don't listen. I don't.

(insert tounge in cheek...)

Did you hear his explanation this morning? Based on what he said, I don't think he'd agree with your assessment. According to him Jones isn't a thug, he's a victim. The only reason he was arrested is because of the color of his skin. The police are picking on him because he's black.

Imus must be smoking some strong stuff if he thinks people are going to believe that he's an advocate for the plight of the black man.:rotfl2: :lmao:

You mean this?

Imus Explains
June 24, 2008 6:59 AM

Under fire once again for remarks about race yesterday, radio host Don Imus this morning said that his comments about Dallas Cowboy Adam "Pacman" Jones are being misinterpreted.

"Warner and I were talking about 'Pacman' Jones being arrested six times," Imus said this morning, "and obviously they are picking on him. So I asked Warner what color he was. Obviously, I already knew what color he was... And I said there you go, that's the point. What people should be outraged about is they arrest blacks for no reason. There was no reason to arrest this kid six times."

Imus went on to say, "they shoot blacks for no reason. We know about that in New York City. I mean, We already understand all this...Nobody, no white man with a radio or television program has had more discussions about race relations since December 3rd than I have. ... We talk about it all the time."

"My point is, there is no reason to arrest this kid six times," Imus said. "He is a football player, he's a lovely kid. He's out having fun, he gets arrested six times, well we know why he gets arrested six times."

The Dallas Morning News reports that, told of Imus's original comments by a reporter, Jones himself says he's "truly upset about the comments. Obviously Mr. Imus has problems with African-Americans. I'm upset, and I hope the station he works for handles it accordingly. I will pray for him."

I don't listen to Imus and Jones isn't a victim.

The comment would have never been made if Jones was white.

Then how can you dismiss Imus's explanation?

What's your take on the Jones situation (arrested 6 times)? I have no idea who he (Jones) is. Is he being singled out by the police because he's black? Is he being arrested because he's a thug? IMO it's gotta be one or the other.

No I'm not calling for him to be fired for pointing out that Imus is an ***.

I meant for his past racial and anti-Semitic outbursts.

What about Spike Lee's comment (based on Nagle's comment)?

I can't stand Spike Lee :badpc: As for Imus....he should win a Darwin award. He can't survive in society because he keeps opening his mouth. Therefore he will become extinct.

Yes, that's it.

Who knew he cared so much.:faint:

How do you know he doesn't? Are you in his head? Other than the comment that got him fired last year, does he have a history of making comments like that? And his ranch that he runs for sick kids (including black kids) got totally tossed dismissed. In some cases shouldn't we be a little more forgiving especially for (what we know) is one stupid thing a person says or does?

I can dismiss his explanation because he doesn't strike me as someone who is appalled by racial profiling.

As far as my take on Jones, I stated earlier that he's an idiot and he should be fired.

Sorry, I'm just not buying it.

Wait, is Jones the victim of racial profiling or is he a thug? :confused3

There are no shining beacons of virtue here on either side of the story. Not Jones, not Imus. If one listens to Imus, expect a rude, irreverent comment. That is what he does. That is what Stern does. Don't like it, turn it off. I do.

See this is why I cannot understand the hoopla over this. He is a shock jock. He says things that are made to get reactions out of people. He gets paid a lot of money to say these things. People listen to him in order to get shocked by him. Which makes money for the him, his employers and the advertisers who use his radio show.

Then he says something that is offensive. And there is outrage. This happened the last time, he used to say horrible things about women, fat women, old women, along with just about everyone else, yet politicians, authors, news anchors showed up on his show and overlooked how offensive he was. They got something out of his show so the nasty things he said on a daily basis were worth the 10 minutes of time they spent laughing with him.

Offensive should not begin and end with racially charged statements. He was hired again after insulting the Rutgers women so there was a market for his kind of "humor". Now he has "slipped" again and more outrage. Well, someone has been listening to him, someone has been paying him and someone has been making money up until now, and I doubt he has been a shining example of tolerance for others.

Until there is an honest dialog about what is going to be acceptable shock jocks like Imus are going to continue to push the boundary of civility. Who can these guys ridicule? Are there groups, women, obese people and Catholics included who must not be offended by the "banter" but racially charged humor is over the line?

Personally, I feel that listening to him and radio personalities like him gives a blanket permission slip to be offensive and nasty. Either it is okay or it is not. If not then get rid of these guys, If it is then stop complaining about their toxic conversation. No audience equals no job. He was hired so clearly he had an audience. You cannot pretend that his remarks are somehow surprising, he was hired to offend.
