Dollar restrictions

Can anyone tell me if Dollar actually asks to see a receipt for a fill-up 10 miles from the airport? Just curious. What if you return the car with a full tank and the gas station was 15 miles from the airport. It's this type of thing that makes me want to not use Dollar. To me, a full tank is a full tank!

I didn't need one in May. I filled up at the Hess by Boardwalk and was fine.

Returned my car on Sunday. We filled up at the Hess Station near the BW. No receipt needed or asked for when we returned the car.

That's good to know because they did look at our receipt from San Antonio.

What I generally do is fill up at a convenient (and less expensive) place, then top off the tank at the gas station near the airport. If asked, this is the receipt I provide them. It is better to use the time and few dollars to top off than to get hit with fees if they want to enforce the rule.

This is exactly what we do also, works like a charm.

Thanks, everyone. It's a shame to have to stop closer to the airport to add a few gallons in order to satisfy their requirement. Do they give you a list of gas stations within a 10 mile radius?

Use google maps. Once you locate MCO you can then "search nearby" for gas stations.

FWIW, I emailed dollar yesterday to inquire about this "policy" and here is the email that I got back...pretty vague. Seems like Orlando has its own policy??

Our Refueling information is listed under the IMPORTANT LOCAL POLICY INFORMATION link, under the Rate info on Dollar.com (and can be viewed PRIOR to confirming the reservation.)

For our Orlando locations, the POLICY information only lists: “Return the vehicle will a full tank of gas to avoid refueling charges.”

I’m sorry, but we have no information on Dollar.com regarding where the “cut-off” point is for having the vehicle refueled. Our rental locations prefer to go over that information at the rental counter at time of pick up. Yes, most locations do have a 10-mile radius range for refueling, but you will need to inquire at the counter as to the specific Orlando policy.

We rented from Dollar in San Diego a few weeks ago...they had that same policy about having a gas purchase receipt. So, we did just that. We filled up before we headed to the airport and returned our car. Just gave the receipt over when we turned in the other paperwork.
It's just not a big deal. If you know you are going to have to refuel, do it closer to the airport.

Using GasBuddy on the Smartphone works too. We used that to find a station closer to the airport but not too close to have higher prices.

You mean stop at a gas station twice on the day of departure? No thanks! We haven't visited enough to be that familiar with the area gas stations to justify the extra hassle.

I guess I could research the least expensive gas within a 10 mile radius of MCO and just fill it up there, but it's looking more and more like we'll just dump Dollar. Between this and the questionable billings I've been reading about I'm not sure the savings is worth the extra fuss. I've never had trouble with them before but MCO seems to have a bad operation.
