Dollar Rental question.....

Can I change the name of the driver on the rental when I pick it up...

I made the reservation under my name with the hopes that a decent rate would come through with Alamo or National so I could get the second driver free....I know - I did not think it through or I would have made it under my husbands name from the beginning. It is painfully obvious that we are NOT going to get a decent rate on a car that will hold us (minivan or large suv).

Rather than take a chance and get into an accident while he is driving or have him angry that he cant drive or add a second driver to the tune of $150 I was thinking of whether I can just switch the name when we get there.

Why don't you just make another reservation with his name and cancel the original after you get the new reservation?
It doesn't cost anything to cancel a reservation with enough notice. Usually 24-48hrs.

Hi .... thanks I would except I made this reservation back in March and if I try to make a new one it will cost us $1000 more for the two weeks - minivan rentals seem to be out of control .......

But just wanted to say, I am so with you on the price of Van/SUV rentals

Nope, you won't be able to change it at time of pickup, unless you cancel the existing ressie and make a new one on the spot - which will cost you an arm and a leg.

The only way you MIGHT be able to change it is calling Dollar's customer service line directly.

It never hurts to go shopping, too - check all of the other rental companies, use all of the current codes and discounts, and see if you can get an acceptable deal. It's last-minute, but sometimes these things work out.

Yep, that's a good idea.

I haven't changed the name on a reservation but I have changed other things without penalty by either calling or emailing Dollar's customer service department. That is your best bet and hopefully it'll work out for you. Just be clear with the CSR as you start talking with her/him that you want to make a change without having your rate affected. And if you're a Dollar Express member you should point out that your husband's name is on the credit card that you have on file with Dollar (assuming that that's true).

I think the easiest thing to do is to add him as a second driver and just pay the 9.99 a day for it......this way we can both drive and not worry about it......

I just wanted to let you know that we do this all the time. I'm the Dollar Express member, and I always make the ressie in my name, but when we get to the counter, my DH signs all the papers and becomes the driver.
BUT, we each have credit cards in our own names, but on the same account. So, the number I use when making the ressie is the same as is on DH's credit card. That may make the difference, I'm not sure.

I'd just call them and see what they say...
