Dollar.co.uk

I doubt any of us will get this :sad2:

It could possibly work for some, I believe some people can log onto the site and see their voucher to re-print, they should/could be OK, the ones I believe are 50/50 are like mine that says on their site Status: Quotation they are probably going thru these bookings and deciding if they have taken too big a hit on them, if they can supply at the quote and not take a hammering, probably smaller cars and shorter trips, they will. Larger cars or long rentals more doubtful they will honour but all guesswork.
In 17 years I have been going to Florida I have had misprices on numerous hotels & flights, every one honoured, the travel industry in general prefer to keep a customer happy at all costs rather than upset them over a web error, I didn't think in a million years they would honour our Biz class £1,700 seats for £465 last August but they did. I have never come across Dollar making an error so will have to wait and see.

Mine says Quotation too :)

Interesting what everyone is posting about the 'Status' on the website. Mine shows as 'In Process', whatever that means. Credit card transaction not showing up yet, but I do have the voucher email...ah well, am not going to cancel USRentacar just yet, so let's sit and see what happens.

Paul

Prices have been revised on their site again today. The rentals I booked yesterday at £274 are now £330 - still cheaper than USrentacar and about the same as netflights.

Had the emails saying on request etc and status is showing quotation.

Not doing anything hasty at the moment as only booked because of the good price and still have another 3 mths before we go!

Ours all seems to be in order. As Wayne says, I suspect that is because we just went with a much smaller car so they aren't taking that much of a hit on them. I have definitely been able to print my voucher, which says nothing about it being a quotation only so I suspect we're probably OK.

Hope the rest of you get the cars you've booked (and paid for). Not sure where they would stand if they have already taken payment and then not been able to supply the car you believe you had booked. I suspect their Ts&Cs would cover them in some way though :confused3

Just my take on this - isn't it often the case with the bigger / specialist vehicles that they are 'on request' simply because the rental companies have fewer of them and need to be more careful when accepting reservations to ensure there will be a vehicle available?

With the compact / economy / intermediate / full size vehicles confirmation can be made automatically because the stock is large enough to be able to cope with the likely demand.

What I'm trying to say is that maybe the 'confirmation' vs 'quotation' difference is down to a query over the ability of Dollar to supply the larger / specialist vehicles, rather than the difference in financial hit Dollar might face.

I made two bookings: one for an Intermediate car for 10 days at Easter and one for a mini van for 5 weeks in July/August. Printed both vouvhers off when I booked and then the following day got the confirmation for Easter but the email saying they would have to check availability of vehicles yada yada ya...... Just checked my reservation on the Dollar website and the status now matches my Easter car; says 'processed' and that payment was received today (23rd January). Still haven't received a final confirmation email from Dollar but fingers crossed. £707 rather than £1035 on Usrentacar or £1051 (but not platinum) is just a fantastic price. Remember paying £145 a week for a mini van back in 2006 with usrentacar. This works out at £141! :dance3:

This is possibly how it works. I thought I had read some full size were at quotation status which goes against this theory but I could be wrong.

Ok, mine is also now showing as 'Processed' when I log into the Dollar website, moved on from 'In Process' yesterday. Credit card (Amex) still not showing the transaction as completed, but hopefully should in the next day or so.

Am still going to wait a week or two before cancelling the other booking I think.

Hope everyone else gets their vehicles too!

Sounds promising Paul, mine is still at quotation only.
No big loss to me if I don't get it, can get a full size for similar price with Hertz. Would just prefer to use Dollar and the bonus of a SUV.

That's good news at least then Wayne. We haven't used Dollar for years in a similar vein to you and Alamo. We had a bad experiences with the pick-up and then got extra charges added at return, but quite happy to give them another try now...time is a great healer, after all :)

Next little look-out is airport parking. We got a brilliant deal at Gatwick last year at the valet place right next to the terminal - 70% off or something, but think that was just an introductory offer.

10 years since I had Alamo hassle, still not fully healed, I might forgive them 1 day:rotfl:

Parking, I am going from Heathrow at Easter, usually drive down same morning but decided this time to look at all options, picked up a Premier Inn near the airport for £29 (less £1.45 cashback) and found a company called Park & Go based in York http://www.quidco.com/park-and-go/ 8% cashback. 13 days Meet and greet £51.73 less £4.14 cashback £47.59.
Total for hotel and 13 days Meet and Greet £75.14
Not sure what they offer from Gatwick but try them.

Thanks for the info. We need 20 days in August, and that's coming out at £103 at the moment (before Quidco). Taking a look at http://www.skyparksecure.com i'm seeing an option of £86 for meet and greet, which seems pretty good - think you need to enter the code 'skyperkz' on the front page to get the rate, but it's a generally available one I reckon.

Just come onto the boards again today to look for carhire deals and it looks like I've missed all the fun! And the deals!

Am seriously considering Hertz - they have the best price for our dates and 10% Quidco cashback.

Anyone know any discount codes?

Bear in mind that Hertz is not on the airport property so you need to get a shuttle bus from them to get to their depot, takes up a bit more time.

Thanks for the links, Wayne. A belated Happy Birthday too! :cake:

Hoping it is April that they move back to the airport - as we're over there late April to mid-May. But we've rented from Hertz before and didn't really find it a problem to get a shuttle bus to their off-site location. We got the car very quickly once we got there.

I only booked this afternoon. The voucher says paid 22 Jan 2010. My Email also says my credit card has been debited. Ther is nothing about it only being a quotation.

I'll see what happens over the weekend. I only booked now because it was a good deal.

Just an update - ours has now moved to quotation status as well.

we'll just have to wait and see.
