For this thread, we will consider the Aloha Isle "dining".....

Backstory - we've been WDW regulars for nearly 20 years - and yet, I never had a Dole anything until this year. Not sure why. I am really fond of pineapple (fresh pineapple, anyway). It has probably taken this long because there always seemed to be a line - and I am not a fan of rapidly melting ice cream.

Fast forward - to the Dining Plan - which shouldn't have been a factor, but was - because you can get a $3.99 Dole Whip in pineapple juice on a snack credit.

WOW. I loved it. It is every bit as good as everyone before me recorded. So good, that I had to go back to the Magic Kingdom - and WAIT for Aloha Isle to open my last full day.

What, if changed, would have made the experience even better?

Well, for the Disney people who cruise these boards for customer feedback, I do have a small one - additional details to the WAIT.

I wandered over by Aloha Isle shortly before 10:00 am (park opened at 9:00). Wooden shutters covered the windows. No sign of when it opened.

So - for starters - it sure would be helpful to post a SIGN when Aloha Isle opens TODAY. If it never changes, make the sign PERMANENT. If it varies, have a sign that can deal with it - an inexpensive, useful alternative to ignorance.

Next, a very helpful - albeit, not knowledgable - Disney customer-relations-type person noticed me hanging around. He mentioned that the stand would open at 10:30. Given his uniform, I believed him. After all, he had the means (that is, phone) to ascertain, with certainty, real information - why would he provide misinformation?

Turns out, it didn't open until 11:00 am. Had I known, I could have thought of better ways to spend the next 55 minutes at a greater distance from what turned out to be one of the few, remaining designated smoking sections (about 10 feet away) in the World.

There I stood, waiting patiently, trying to second guess behind which magic door the prize of service awaited. Well, this is not my specialty. Whenever my family asks me which line I would pick - they immediately choose any other. I focus so much on reason that I miss the irrational factors.

Anyway, they weren't with me to save me from going with reason. People started lining up in the best-guess queues and with one sort-of-poky server, I was now about 5th in line for service. I think this was the only annoyed Disney moment I had in 15 days. Not bad, but avoidable.

I probably would have rolled with it better if I hadn't been waiting so long. About 7 minutes later, Dole Whip in hand, I was well past the irritation. Making mental notes about what could have been better - a sign, a queue. Whatever.

In summary - recommendation:
  • sign - service hours
  • queue - anything is better than nothing - especially in an environment where this is handled so well everywhere else

Amen! How annoying.

I guess it speaks to how yummy they really are that we would be willing to put up with such abuse for one. LOL

I have to get one when we go back. I missed them last time when they were not yet on the dining plan. Sigh.

Sorry about your experience in the wait. I'll have to remember that so that I don't stand waiting for an hour as well.

I can't believe you had never tried one. We're going to WDW in Sep, and since my last trip to WDW was in 1989, :confused3 I have been salivating for 18 years for another Dole Whip! They are awesome, and I can't wait to have another one, or two, or three, or ... I'll have 9 snack credits...wonder how many of them will be for DW?
And now that I'm a travel agent for an agency specializing in Disney travel, I won't have to wait another 18 years for DW!

ya know, WDW is not the only place to get a Dole Whip. You can find them on the Dole Plantation in Hawaii. It might be a little out of the way, but the plantation is open everyday 'cept Christmas.

yummmm.....dole whip :goodvibes Although I have never had one, it is a "must" on my next vacation to disney  I am sure it'll live up to all the hipe :dance3:

YUM--we get ours just before Spectromagic & eat it as we're waiting--I want one now!!!

In case I ever go to Hawaii!

You'd think they would have more places like the Aloha Isle in other venues!

so that is what one looks like, i keep hearing about them, we will for sure try one in April!!!!!!

For clarification, I should probably note that this picture is of the Dole Whip FLOAT - that is, Dole Whip on top of Dole Pineapple Juice. You can also get just the Dole Whip - look just like the top half of the picture, in a cup, without the juice.

Wow, YUM is right going there Sept . 21 thru 30, but the first night I'm heading to Aloha Isle for a DW.
Can you get them anywwhere else in the MK? Thought I saw somewhere they are at Polly or is that something different? Man I'm gettng hungry

Hi my DS, DD and I love Dole Whips as well. We try to have one a day when at DW. We are trying the Dining Plan out this trip. Thanks for the information that you can use your snack credit for the $3.99 Dole Whip.

I saw that another Dis member mentioned that you can also get them at the Dole plantation in Hawaii. We were in Hawaii a week ago and I found them everywhere! They have them at the Honolulu airport, and just about any mall that I visited. The Dole plantation puts one in an enormous plastic pinapple cup/container if you want one that big (yes of course)!

My DS and I have a tradition that we get one really late when the park is almost empty and then take it on the Jungle Boat Cruise. I don't know if they normally let food on the boat like that, but when no one is there, they have allowed it. The Jungle Boat Cruise is totally different really late at night, with an empty boat... and a Dole Whip. :yay:

Thanks
Tithonia

My idea of heaven is to get my Dole Whip Float and either sit in the smoking section to eat it (for me, eating a Dole Whip Float while I'm enjoying some second hand smoke is heavenly!) during the parade time, or to get my Dole Whip and take it on the Jungle Cruise (Yes, they will allow you to do that even during busy times) during the parade. Are you picking up on my avoid the parade at all cost mentality?

Its been several years now, but one day at the MK I thought Dole Whip would make a good breakfast ( :thumbsup2 ) , so we asked a CM near the Aloha Isles what time they opened, and she gave us what seemed like a knowledgeable reply. At the time stated, we came back and found the counter windows still closed, so we wandered the shops, came back on the next 1/2 hour .... still closed. Came back an hour later and they were finally opening.

So I agree, a "We will open at xx:00" sign would be very nice!

I also couldn't locate the Egg Roll cart, and thought it was close to the Dole Whips, so asked at the counter and they had no idea what I was talking about. Asked several other cast members in the area, they had no idea what I was talking about. Walked a bit further (toward the Aladdin ride) and there was the Egg Roll Cart! Maybe the CMs don't get very far from the immediate area they work in? (or don't they call it the Egg Roll Cart?)

Of course, the Egg Roll Cart had no egg rolls, nor was it even open...all day. :sad1:

Thanks for the great photo of the Dole Whip Float! I can taste it already! :goodvibes

Other than DW, which other park sells it? Sadly, I've never tried a Dole Whip :scared1: , and after seeing the picture, will have to try it this August.:cool1:

ok, for the newbie, what exactly is a Dole Whip?

It's just pineapple soft serve. The float is the soft serve in pineapple juice. They're refreshing, but I wasn't wowed by my float. Personally I found the soft serve to be quite bland and kind of watered down the flavor of my juice. At WDW you can get it in Adventureland at MK and Captain Cook's at the Polynesian (but no float at CC).
