OK, so I gotta ask. I keep hearing about this famous Dole Whip. Now, I like ice cream like most people, but with all the yummy snacks that I've read about, what is so special about this? It just looks like pineapple flavoured ice cream.
(Maybe because I'm a chocolate lover, that other stuff seems better from pictures)

That is pretty much it. Pineapple flavored soft serve-type frozen dessert. Chemicals and stuff, I think no dairy products. People have listed the ingredients more than once. Probably ice cream is much healthier. But it is refreshing in the heat and humidity, and something you can't get anywhere else for most people. Warning--the orange flavor tastes like baby aspirin. Gross to me, but if you like baby aspirin, you may like it. I thought the orange would be like orange sherbet, and had with pienapple juice----yuck!!
It you don't like pineapple flavor, you may want to skip the Dole Whip.

Overly sweet with the #2 ingredient being sugar with a unique pineapple flavor. We buy one for the kids and let them try it...they didn't finish it. I took a bite and quickly validated again why I do not get them. Others love it, but for me there are better offerings on property. Overall, it taste just like its list of ingredients

DOLE WHIP INGREDIENTS: Water*, Sugar, Dextrose, Pineapple Juice Concentrate, Coconut Oil**, Stabilizers (Cellulose, Xanthan Gum, Locust Bean, Karaya Gum, Pectin), Silicon Dioxide (Anticaking), Corn Syrup Solids, Citric Acid, Sodium Caseinate (A Milk Derivative), Artificial Flavor, Potassium & Sodium Phosphate, Mono & Diglycerides, Artificial Color (Yellow 5 & 6), Soy Lecithin.

I LOVE pineapple but didn't care for the Dole Whip at all! I was waiting for the angels to sing when I tried my first bite. Instead, I had visions of vomit in 100 degree weather...

I agree. Tried the Dole Whip at MK and not so special. Waited in line forever!
On another note, I recommend the pineapple spear. I tried it at Disneyland it was so so sweet and delicious. Best pineapple I ever had.

I love this thread! I too had high expectations based on rave reviews from the DIS... it was more of a mystery than a disappointment. I thought that I ordered the wrong item. Dole Whips are not refreshing, tasty or even real food! I must say that everything else on the DIS has been very helpful though.

I like pineapple Dole Whip (it also comes in other flavors, just not at WDW), but it seems to be one of those love it/hate it type things. There is nothing inherently special about it...other than you can't get it at too many places outside of Disney (some yogurt shops carry it)...but like anything, if you like it, then you like it. If you only have it at Disney, then it can be a special part of your trip. Kind of like Mickey pretzels, character caramel apples, and Mickey bars.

Haha!! "Chemicals and stuff"..... now when you say it like that I suppose it's not that special!! But- adding some Captain Morgan's Coconut Rum takes the Pineapple Dole Whip to a whole new level and that is special!! You can add some dark rum too!! :thumbsup2

It's the uniqueness. I can't find pineapple dole whip anywhere around, if could I wouldn't waste a snack credit on it.

i like it as a float with the pineapple juice.. but i won't wait 15-20 minutes in line for one and everytime we passed it this past May it was probably a much longer wait.

over the Holidays we stayed at the Poly and my DS12 wold get the self serve whip with his meal when we would eat at Cook's. :)

THANK YOU!!!! I'm not the only one! I thought I was missing some Dole Whip gene or something! It's just like soft serve ice cream--except without the ice cream. I suppose for someone who can't eat dairy, it might be a great treat. But I see these comments that basically say if I don't get my family a Dole Whip, we've deprived them of Heaven on Earth, our trip will be ruined, and there's something psychologically wrong with me!

Doesn't help that there's a seasonal ice cream stand a mile down the road from me that carries it. They carry vanilla, but will mix in any of 24 different flavors for you (same ones they use for the soft serve). Again, great for someone who can't have dairy, but the rest of us prefer actual ice cream. So when I first saw the hubbub about Dole Whip, I was like, "Huh? Really? Is this the same stuff?" It is and I still don't get it!

I've been going to Disney for 20 years. Never had a Dole Whip and probably never will.

I love pineapple and I enjoyed it. We've only ever waited 5 minutes for it so I would probably pass on a 15 minute wait. I've only had it with vanilla and pineapple with pineapple juice poured over. Yummy. I wouldn't order just the "icecream" alone though.

Thank you all for the comments. So sounds like its really just a hyped item. From what you all say, I'm not miss understanding of what it is...and when you see the actual ingredient list...yikes!

There are so many better looking treats out there at DW (ok..not any healtheir but more worth the splurge)...unless want something refreshing. Can't say that our kids are really fans of pineapple anyways.

Thanks for all the feedback. We'll use our snack credits on other things.

This makes me laugh, because I wonder how many would be "shocked" that there is still food out there with chemicals in them, especially at Disney. If you're not shopping at places like Whole Foods on a regular basis, chances are you are buying food with added ingredients.

It's not that special. I'm not a fan. Rum improves them a lot, you can get rum with them at Animal Kingdom now.

We love them as a float, however, we have visited with our parents and they do not like them. We find them refreshing in the heat.

I was very excited to try it after reading so much hype. I love pineapple. I didn't finish it. For me it was meh. I suspect most of the lovers had this as children and developed a taste for it -- nostalgic.
