So I was sitting here at work this morning and I decided to click on your PTR.

If it's any consolation, I'm totally offsite this trip as well. It may not be free, but it is pretty darn close, so I had to do it. The hotel works out to $21/day!!! How could I not do it? And of course with my AP, my tickets AND parking are covered. Also, just FYI, I and a couple other DISers have a Universal day planned (mostly for HP) on the 21st. Just sayin'.

Regardless... Now to plan a Meet Up actually IN Disney and not MicMac Mall!!

Good morning!

We started our long weekend with Tonga Toast.

We changed it a little. We used our usual home made whole wheat bread, put some banana slices in between them, rolled in egg mix, fried, and rolled in cinnamon and sugar. I made the strawberry compote too. It was delicious, and pretty close to Kona's!

(Hey, we're not going to get there this next trip so I had to make due!)

So! Who wants to hear about Germany?

Day 0 -- Travel & Day 1 -- Bad Orb
July 13 & 14

We were up early and on the road. My cousin was having her bridal shower in Halifax (4.5 hours away) and we were flying out of the Halifax airport. Good timing! So my mother and I went to that while Johnny hit Costco. After that we headed to the airport!

We checked in easy enough and got through security in no time. We stopped at a pub to grab a bite to eat and watch Germany win the World Cup. A great start to a German vacation!

We were an hour late boarding, but then we were seated and ready to get our vacation started.

It was a long flight overnight. I got a little sleep, but it was not very comfortable or restful. It was about 9am when we landed in Frankfurt.

We found our luggage, found Carolin, had some hugs and set out for her parents' place in Bad Orb!

Familiar steps leading to their house:

We had some breakfast, a shower, and went for a tour of Bad Orb.

We got some ice cream (the first of many incredible snacks/desserts)

The salina -- it pours salt water down the walls and you walk through it breathing deep. Supposed to be good for your respiratory system. Johnny did it hoping to relieve his allergies!

We had some supper and Johnny tried his first German beer. Now Johnny doesn't drink any alcohol at all, hates it all. It was a very light beer, grapefruit flavoured. He didn't mind it.

By this time we were absolutely exhausted and really needed to get some sleep. We were lead downstairs to the apartment on the ground floor of their house and given the key. We crashed hard. It was a great way to get onto their time zone!

I'm so glad you're gonna go! I understand all your hesitation, especially about where to stay and about not spending the whole time in Disney but you are going to have a great time!!! And you cool people get to meet other cool people!!

I am too. I have a different outlook now. I didn't really want to go because it wasn't exactly the trip I wanted, but when it was threatened I realized that I did in fact want to get to Disney, even if only for a short time and offsite!

The "spaghettieis" is popular there. Mostly the Italian ice cream parlours had it. It was just vanilla ice cream put through a pasta maker onto a scoop of frozen whipped cream, then drizzled with (usually) strawberry sauce with white chocolate shavings for Parmesan cheese! Soooo delicious!

Loving your Germany report, Glad you finally made a decision on the September trip.
My family had to make a decision too.. unfortunatly ours wasn't as nice..We had to cancel our September Disney trip.. Medical crap going on is getting in the way so looks like it will either be a Spring trip or next October Probably October so we can still do AKL if they do Free Dining.

It is really adorable. It's a bit of a retirement town with an older population, but it's definitely not a tourist stop so it's nice to see the real deal.

I'm sorry that we'll miss each other this trip, and not by very long either! I just added on days to my trip too; I've been updating my PTR pretty constantly since I have something to say about the trip pretty much every day! Even when I don't have an update, I have an update.

Enjoying your Germany trip report; I miss it so much. The town you took pictures of looks so much like Aachen, one of my favorite cities on earth. And, of course, spaghettieis! I think I ate a lot more gelato over there than anything else - there was a nice shop right by the Hauptbahnhof and I'd stop by sometimes.

We used a large, deep frying pan and about a half an inch of oil. I just placed it in the hot oil, then carefully flipped it. Worked pretty well!
