Dole Whip is a Dish Best Served Cold. A Sept PTR- 10/2 - TR POSTED!

We are back from Vegas and I am slowly catching up.

So glad to see you doing a Germany TR within your PTR. :)

The steps leading up to the house are so pretty with all of the flowers.

I would like to walk through a salina right about now (picked up a nasty cold in Vegas)...I could use something good for my respiratory system.

I want that ice cream NOW!

Welcome back, Kathy!

The Salina and the ice cream are just what the doctor ordered for that cold! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Gorgeous Pictures! I saw some of them on FB, but certainly not all of them. They are amazing!

I LOVE grapefruit beer. They sell that on tap on F&W. It is a must on every trip!

It has taken me awhile to get over here since my return, and there is so much to comment on...

Sorry I wasn't around to help you with the Disney math as you were trying to decide on your trip. The only equation I know, anyway is

Disney = YES

So I don't know if that would have been helpful or not. So glad to hear the trip is on. I am sure you will make the most of it.

Gorgeous preview pictures of Germany- what a beautiful country! I enjoyed the first post about your arrival- what a nice little tour of the town.

That "spaghetti" cracked me up! So cool. :lmao: In fact, in the theme of your PTR, the caption should be "Spaghetti is a dish best served cold"

Photography 201: Confession time

I dragged my big girl camera to Disneyland and to Hawaii. I took it out of the case (an insulated lunch bag) exactly once. For sunset pictures in Maui. What I need is an intervention from my point and shoot- it is just so easy to take that along, especially on long touring days (DL, Pearl Harbor) and it is definitely a must during all of our beach time. Plus, my family does not give me the luxury of stopping to set up a shot, most of my pictures are taken on the go, literally.

I have a quickie trip to the Beach Club in about 10 days, and it is solo, so I plan to take the camera with me to practice and play.

I thought of you when she posted the picture of Johnny with the grapefruit beer. I remembered you were a big fan and I totally want to try that sometime.

Thanks Mary Ellen!
I really, really hate beer, but I actually had a sip of that stuff without gagging, so it must be really good! :rotfl2: I remembered reading about it at F&W, thought it was pretty cool to give it a try in Germany!

It does take a while to get caught up on everything, doesn't it? Sometimes I still feel way behind and it's two weeks today since I've been home!

In the end, that was the equation we went with! :lmao:

It is a really beautiful place, so different in so many ways. It was great to get to see it again, and I'm so glad Johnny finally got to!

That "spaghetti" cracked me up! So cool. :lmao: In fact, in the theme of your PTR, the caption should be "Spaghetti is a dish best served cold"
:rotfl: Perfect caption!! I love it! Next time (yes, there will be more spaghetti ice cream!)

I totally get it. I really do. I often bring only my phone with me because it's just so inconvenient to bring the big camera.

YAY! Wow that's coming up fast! I hope you do get a chance to play a little! I've been working on the photo classes, but they're just not coming together as easy as the last one did. :confused3

Hello everyone!

How is everyone's week going so far? I've been so busy. It's Action Week here in Sydney which is our week long summer festival. I've been trying to play tourist in my own town and see and do everything I can. I saw buskers on the boardwalk, ate at two new-to-me local restaurants, saw a free concert on the boardwalk (Kintyre, a fantastic Cape Breton/celtic music band, and Jennifer Roland, a fantastic fiddler, was playing with them.) Visits with friends home from away, visits and games with cousins home from away, a long weekend and, of course, some work! :rotfl: It's been fun, but I have to say that for a girl who usually has no life at all, it's tiring! :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I love where I live, and so does the rest of the world. ;) Check out this article about all the accolades my little island has been receiving recently. :thumbsup2

In Disney news, we still have not yet bought our tickets. Johnny is going to talk to his boss very soon (or so he keeps telling me,) to confirm that he can get the time off. We did start to write a few loose lists of plans.

We did start planning our next year trip and even started thinking further than that -- a Disney cruise to Northern Europe in 2016! :lmao:

Anyway.

Re: Camera classes... I'm sorry I haven't started up with them yet! I can't get the lessons to come together for me really easy like the last bunch. I have too much material and I'm having trouble sifting through it.

Let's go back to Germany for a bit, shall we?

Day 2 - Hünfeld & Fulda
July 15

We woke early, despite being exhausted. Still a little residual Canadian time left I'd say. We cleaned up, put some things away and at 8:00 we went upstairs to join Carolin for breakfast of a variety of fresh bread rolls, deli meats and soft cheeses. Then it was time to head out exploring!

Hünfeld was first. This is where Carolin works. We didn't spend much time there, stopping at a gummy bear store (Johnny's favourite German treat!)

Then we stopped at a small accessories store.

We wandered up and down the streets a little but I didn't take many pictures.

Next we moved on to Fulda, a larger (but still smallish) city where Carolin lives and used to work. I love Fulda. It's big enough to have lots to see and do, but not so big that it overwhelms.

We did a little shopping.
10472091_10152291163202989_8385681590744774159_n.jpg

(No, I didn't buy the dirndl. I figured €100 was a bit much for a one-time-wear costume!)

We toured the city. Saw some beautiful old castle grounds and churches.

After a good city tour it was time for a break.

Cafe Ideal is where we stopped:

Yeah. Check out that cake. Easily 10" long and the most amazing flavours you've ever seen.

I tried a Fritz cola. A German brand of cola and SO MUCH BETTER than Coke! Less sugary.

See all that condensation? It was SO hot the whole trip. Hot and sunny!

A few more of the cakes they have available:

We then headed back home. I had to display one of my purchases...

"Go shopping in Germany, come home with a Mickey Mouse sweater. #cantstop"]

We had a great chicken dish for supper that I got the recipe for. Then off to bed early to get ready for the next day's adventures!

I hope next time to have more Disney related stuff to talk about, as well as some of those camera lessons! Have a good day everyone!

Aw, I LOVE gummy bears! Not the ones I can find here, but the German ones. I used to eat all kinds from the gummy bear store near my place in Germany! I had to be careful stopping in there because I always came out with something new.

I don't know about gummy beer though. :crazy2:

Aw, you should have bought the dirndl. You could wear it around the house, just for fun! ;) And on Halloween! And at Disney on Halloween! And anytime you work at a biergarten! See, don't you wish you'd have bought it?! (terrible enablers here on the DIS)

Ah, the cake looks amazing! I loved the soda all over Europe; it seemed sweeter, yet not as biting as soda in the US. I was obsessed with the bakeries over in Germnay; there was a chain bakery right by my dorm and I ALWAYS stopped in there for a Quarkbaellchen or three in the mornings and afternoons (they were like 1 euro for three! How could I pass them up??)! Did you get to many bakeries while there?

I am not a fan of Gummy Bears, but think they are adorable and love the wedding cake of them.

Your pictures are gorgeous. Andy and Des saw a lot of big churches on their trip to Ireland.

I remember you posting the picture of you with the dirndl on FB...so cute (but I don't blame you for not spending the money).

My husband would be having one of each of those cakes.

Love your Mickey sweatshirt (we came back from Vegas with Mickey t-shirts :lmao:).

Can't wait to read more and hear about Disney plans.

Love hearing about your trip! Last year we took the Adventures by Disney Germany tour and fell in love with the country!!! Heidelberg, Waldeck, Alsfeld, Rothenburg, and Munich.... Wonderful memories!!!

There are NO gummie bears like REAL German gummie bears!!! Lol. The displays on the little candy shops in Heidelberg were fabulous! Full football field with both teams, etc. so funny! I had to buy a bunch last month in Germany in Epcot to reminisce!!!

All the gummy bears look so yummy (well except for the beer ones!)

I love it you go to Germany and for clothes you get something Disney!:lmao: This is the perfect explanation for a Diser!!

Can you believe I have never ever ever been to Cape Breton?? Shameful I know... Don't hit!

Ahhh that Gummy stuff is so wicked!!!

Hahaha, I still see Florida when you say Fulda. Disney on the brain.

Oh come now Wendy, I'm sure you'd find many times to wear that outfit. And well done on the photo. It really looks like you're wearing it.

Ok, where IS Cape Breton? :-). My music director at church is a well known tenor there.

DD20 bought a dirndl in Munich. Cost a bit! But she wore it to the finale dinner of our tour and as a theatre major, she thinks she'll be able to wear it again! :-)

North American gummy bears are just not the same. Even the ones in the German pavilion in Epcot are Americanized, not quite the same as the real German ones.

I don't know about gummy beer though. :crazy2:
I think (and hope!) it was just the colour and not the flavour... :confused3

Hahaha it would have made quite the costume for Hallowe'en!

Ah, the cake looks amazing! I loved the soda all over Europe; it seemed sweeter, yet not as biting as soda in the US. Not too many. Usually Carolin got up before us and walked up to the bakery for breakfast. We did stop in a few for some quick snacks and Johnny was totally amazed. He wants to open a German bakery and I want to open an Italian ice cream parlour!

I am not a fan of Gummy Bears, but think they are adorable and love the wedding cake of them.
I like them fine, but Johnny really loves them. The wedding cake was so cute!

Your pictures are gorgeous. Andy and Des saw a lot of big churches on their trip to Ireland.
The architecture over the pond is incredible. We live in such young countries that it just blows my mind the old churches they have.

I remember you posting the picture of you with the dirndl on FB...so cute (but I don't blame you for not spending the money).
It was cute, and if it was cheap I would have bought it for the heck of it, but I'm just too cheap for that! :rotfl:

My husband would be having one of each of those cakes.
I definitely wanted to try one of everything. Johnny's was really delicious though, I think I might have gotten side tracked there!

Love your Mickey sweatshirt (we came back from Vegas with Mickey t-shirts :lmao:).
Not surprising, some habits just don't die! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to read more and hear about Disney plans.
Hopefully coming right up!

Love hearing about your trip! Last year we took the Adventures by Disney Germany tour and fell in love with the country!!! Heidelberg, Waldeck, Alsfeld, Rothenburg, and Munich.... Wonderful memories!!!
Oh wow, I really wanted to do the Adventures by Disney Germany tour!! Did you write a report about that trip?

There are NO gummie bears like REAL German gummie bears!!! Lol. The displays on the little candy shops in Heidelberg were fabulous! Full football field with both teams, etc. so funny! I had to buy a bunch last month in Germany in Epcot to reminisce!!!
Absolutely! And even the ones in Epcot are manufactured on our side of the water so they're not quite the same.

"SingingMom" ....Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

All the gummy bears look so yummy (well except for the beer ones!)
I think (and hope!) they were flavoured as something else, and just the right colour to arrange in a beer glass. That was my assumption, but I could be wrong!

I love it you go to Germany and for clothes you get something Disney!:lmao: This is the perfect explanation for a Diser!!
Definitely, can't kick that habit! (Wouldn't want to either!)

Can you believe I have never ever ever been to Cape Breton?? Shameful I know... Don't hit!
:scared1: And you so close! Ahh I'm not surprised. Not a lot of action up this end of the province. (But it really is beautiful!) Come on up some time, I'll prove it!

Ahhh that Gummy stuff is so wicked!!!
I wish I had taken more pictures, the whole store was amazing! Also the owner was pretty cool, he was trying his best English for us and letting us sample a bunch of different flavours. :thumbsup2

Hahaha, I still see Florida when you say Fulda. Disney on the brain.
I see it too now and think of you when I do. Then I think of my Mickey shirt.

Oh come now Wendy, I'm sure you'd find many times to wear that outfit. And well done on the photo. It really looks like you're wearing it.
I could wear it to work, kayaking, out to weddings... :rotfl2:

Ok, where IS Cape Breton? :-). My music director at church is a well known tenor there.
I see you're in New Jersey. Ok, you're really close! Follow your coastline north and a little East until you hit the Canadian border. Cross it. Welcome to New Brunswick! From there go East one more province. Welcome to Nova Scotia! (Wave to DisneyKid4Life on the way by.) Now head North until your only option is to cross a bridge. You are now on the Island of Cape Breton. Welcome! :thumbsup2

DD20 bought a dirndl in Munich. Cost a bit! But she wore it to the finale dinner of our tour and as a theatre major, she thinks she'll be able to wear it again! :-)
I think that would be really sweet to wear it to the finale dinner of the tour. Also yes, I can definitely see getting some theatre use out of it!

:beach:

I didn't do a trip report, but if you have any questions about the ABD tour, let me know! Did Germany last year and the London/Paris tour the year before! Aulani this year, but hope to ABD again next year!

Thanks for the directions to cape Breton! ;-)

Oh man! A gummy wedding cake? How do you cut that or do you just scoop?! lol

I love love love your pictures! It looks so beautiful and old worldish! I hope to get there some day! You don't need to worry about Disney content if you have more Germany! Although I am curious about next years big trip! :thumbsup2

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that you had to cancel for September :( I hope the medical issues aren't too serious and are gone very soon. Here's hoping for AKL + Free dining next year for you!

Thanks, unfortunatly the medical issues are pretty big ones. Getting better as we go through.. Both my husband and son are down for the count right now but go back for post surgery rechecks next Monday/Tuesday

I loved seeing all of your Germany pictures on Facebook.

You said breakfast of bread rolls, deli meats, and soft cheeses, and I just yearned to go back to Belgium! I miss that so much.

That cake is crazy! So yummy looking.

Your pictures of Germany and all the food pictures make me miss Germany!

Jill in CO

Drool is pouring down my face over those cakes. Why does everything food related look so much better in Europe?:confused3

We, as Disers, cannot stop when it comes to Disney related merchandise. It's hard wired. :rotfl2: But, it's a cute shirt!

Wow. That is a lot of gummy stuff. :rotfl:
The town looks so charming.
That outfit is adorable but yeah pretty steep price to have it sit around.
Cute Mickey / Minnie sweater!
