Doing things that can be done at home?

The BIG question I have is...but DO YOU go mini golfing at home?

I haven't golfed at Disney yet, but we did at Citywalk (Universal), and it was *fabulous*. There is truly nothing like it here in Tacoma. :)

Given that we live in western WA, swimming outdoors isn't something we get a lot of at home, so of course we swim (and sit in the sun) while there.

We love to play mini-golf while on vacation but we never do this at home. We love the theming and just the break from the mobs.

We also enjoy dining at Disney Springs. The food at DHS and even AK and MK isn't that great overall but DS has some very good places to eat.

We live in a town of 3,000, 90 minutes from any food besides McDonald's and 3 different Mexican restaurants. Therefore we eat at a wide variety of restaurants with the exception of Mexican. We're foodies so the food is almost as big a draw as the parks. We swim daily, meaning the kids all get in the pool and I go down and watch them. (Without the kids I'd probably rarely see the pool.) It's our afternoon break and let's the younger ones let loose. As for mini golf, dH would like it, but wouldn't consider it unless we were there over 5-6 days, which we never are. We are 45 min from the nearest movie theater so wouldn't rule out a movie if we had an extra afternoon.

We do not mini golf but we do often do other things we can do at home...like watching the Royals or the Jayhawks. We can swim in Michigan in the summer but there is something wonderful about laying in the sun and/or swimming on spring break after a long MI winter. The important thing on vacation is to do what makes you happy. I never feel bad for not using the mini golf coupon but if my family liked it, I would not feel bad about leaving the parks to do it. We do not eat at any places that we could eat at home but if doing so would make everyone happy, we would.

I think this really depends on your likes/dislikes, what your family enjoys, and how long/often you go to WDW. We go annually so our goal is to not overwhelm ourselves with a park every single day. We enjoy the mini golf as those courses are unique to Disney and it provides some fun downtime for the kids!

We live near one of the best water parks in the country, thus we have never gone to a Disney water park. We just can't see what would be for us wasting a day on something we can do at home. Same with golf, miniature golf, movies and swimming.

We always drive to WDW so we add a day to the beginning of our trip where we stay offsite rather than pay the resort prices for a partial day. During that day we do things like mini golf and surrey bikes and Disney Springs. They are all very fun activities and we are able to do them without impacting our park time. So if you have time, I would recommend trying them, the courses are very challenging and fun. But would not sacrifice park time on a short trip.

...until the first time we actually played Winter/Summerland. Then mini-golf became a tradition. For a short trip, probably not. But for us, it's Disney.

I don't mini golf period, I did it once and didn't enjoy it so don't do it anywhere. I don't do waterparks, period. Used to go to Cedar Point in Ohio when we lived there and there was a water park, we went once, not my thing. We go often so yes, we do non park things if we want. We sit by the quiet pool, my kid is grown I don't need to be around or hear a lot of screaming splashing younguns (that sounded grumpy old person, get off my lawn, which I'm not just don't like crowded pools). We don't go to DS a lot, getting to and from there is such a pain and frankly there just isn't much there we are interested in but we have popped over there every once in awhile to see La Nouba or just walk around. We might do a movie if we are in the mood, we have a dine in theater here at home so it's not a novelty but my son has a bad back and it's a nice break for him to not be walking around the parks all day. We resort hop sometimes, just depends on our mood.

We don't have rules about what we do or don't do on vacation. If we want to go to a movie, we will. If we want to go for a ride around the area, we will. We'll eat in chain restaurants if we want. Prepared properly...a burger is a burger, a steak is a steak. Sometimes we don't want to pay for the Disney theming or just need to get outside the bubble. Our only rule is to have fun, relax and enjoy being away together.

What, Tower Lanes Mini-Golf isn't enough for you? :P

We also swim at WDW, for the same reasons as @bumbershoot.

I have a question that is a spin to this thread.

We are planning a 15-16 day trip to WDW, if we purchase the 10day park hopper and water park option, then we still only get 10 days in the park correct? Whether it be theme park or water park
So the in between days we could do resort pool time, DS, Mini golf, etc. Are they closing Disney quest?
I'm just really confused about the waterpark and more option. If we are purchasing 10 day tickets, that seems like a waste to use it on a waterpark, no?! Thoughts?

I only ever purchased that option once and we went with a 3 year old, it felt like a waste to me.

With your WPF&M tickets, you could go to one of the main 4 parks 10 times PLUS 10 admissions to water parks using all within 14 days of your first admission. So, you could do 10 parks, + 4 water parks, and just have 1-2 down days at the beginning and end. Your 10 admissions are not confined to 10 calendar days.

The one activity I will go out of my way to avoid is arcade games. Thankfully, they're becoming easier to avoid at WDW, but I just cringe at the idea of spending time in an arcade when there's a perfectly good one (with better games) near our home. DS is drawn like a magnet to them, and I just run interference every time I see one.

(I also hate running into places where they've got video games to play in the parks. We ran past those Infinity 3.0 consoles in Launch Bay so fast that my son didn't even see them. I'm sure they're great if you don't have the game at home or want to try it out. But we play plenty at home, so I hate the thought of using valuable time playing a game we have at home!)

We do mini-golf, to me it's just a summer vacation type thing to do and we enjoy it. I don't care much for DS other than to eat at a restaurant that I wouldn't be able to otherwise. I don't do movies and I don't eat at restaurant chains that I can get to close to home.

Wow! This changes things a bit. I thought we had a 10day ticket and theme parks/water parks split within that 10days. And we can use the water park the same day as a theme park or no?

we do the opposite. we never play "mini golf" at home. It is a vacation thing. thus making it more special when we go some place that has it.

with the amount of time we have been to WDW. We continuously look for things to do outside the park.

NEVER do we do chain restaurants when at WDW. ewww

Yep - because you have hoppers AND water parks, you can do main 4 park + water or any combination of parks on the same day OR spread them out. Only one I'm not sure about is whether you can go to both water parks on the same day

Mini golf is a must for our vacations. As is bowling, swimming, and walking around DS. WDW, to us, is so much more than the parks. We don't go for the parks...we go for the bubble. Anything within that bubble is fair game.
