Here's our story. We're taking a DCL cruise next *******, with DVC points. We were recently able to modify our flights to stay on several extra days, so we can enjoy the parks after the cruise.

Based on availability, the only studio available is at SSR, for our dates (*** **-**), totaling 73 points. We have 38 points left available to us (to borrow) -- in our June 2009 use year. To get this ressy we'll need an additional 35 points.

I believe my best route to go would be to go to the Rent/Trade boards and inquire about a points transfer from another member. Is this the best route for us to go?

Any other thoughts or considerations for us?

That's correct. If you will not have access to any more points from your own contract, a transfer would be the only option to make that reservation using points. You could see if the member discount is available for your dates and then pay cash for the night's you want.

Good luck! :)

As suggested, you could book the weekend nights with cash through MS. It looks like you would need 33 points for Th, Sun & Mon and 40 points for Fr & Sat. The rack rate at SSR in January for a studio is $295. With the 25% member discount, that would be $221.25, for a total of $248.91 with tax, or $497.81 total for 2 nights.

The cost to transfer the 40 points needed would probably at least $400 ($10 pp) and could be as much as $560 ($14 pp). Only you can decide whether the potential cost savings for the transfer is worth it to you. You can also book the cash nights and then cancel once you have the points transferred (as long as you cancel, i think, at least 5 days before your stay).

Best of luck -- Suzanne

Thanks for the excellent suggestions. Another idea, and please let me know if this is feasible or not --

If I make a ressy for three nights (Thurs, Sun, Mon) with 33 of my points, and then request via the rent/trade boards that someone else make a ressy for me for Fri/Sat nights (at a negotiated rate, etc), could I 'combine' these ressies with MS to effectively get my desired 5 night stay? Don't want a scenario where we have to change rooms twice during the stay.

Yes, as long as it is the same room size and booking class, at SSR there are no "booking classes" like value, preferred, Jambo or Kidani, so as long as it is the same size room at SSR, you should be fine. Be sure that Member Services links the reservations.

NOTE: I am going to edit your specific dates out of your post so it is not construed as a Reservation Wanted post, which would need to be on the R/T Board. :)
