Doing it anyway

monthly haircuts & highlights 3 times a year = yearly cost approx $900.00 X 40 years = $ 36,000.00 well spent

Buy a Chick Fila A salad 3 times a week because it's the only vegetable my son will eat! :thumbsup2

love this thread! I would have to say my hair cut and color. I usually spend about 150$ 4 times a year for hopefullly about 50 years...equals 30K and so worth it!

I won't give up buying full priced books at Barnes & Noble. I love the store and I love the feel of a new book. I don't buy tons but I buy a few now and then.

I won't give up my chai lattes at Starbucks either but I did cut way down. They are too fattening so I treat myself to one occasionally and the rest of the time I just drink plain tea. It's not only better for the waistline but I have saved money since plain tea is quite a bit cheaper.

There is absolutely nothing in life that I insist upon not giving up. It's just stuff and it's not important!:confused3

Human-grade, all natural, grain-free kibble for the dogs: $1400 a year
K-Cups (vs. using the reusable My K-Cup): $160 a year

I also don't skimp on my workout clothing - I buy Lululemon at $80 for a pair of capris and $98 for a hoodie (:scared1:), and $60 for my running skirts from Skirt Sports and RunningSkirts.com, and $40 running bras. I figure that for the amount of miles I put in in this gear, it's worth being happy with it! I won't spend more than $10 for a t-shirt normally and buy most of my clothing from the thrift store, but yet I have no problem dropping $100 for a hoodie? :confused3

I won't give up going to the nail salon or Disney the way they make me feel is worth every penny...dollar!

Getting my nails done! It's $15 every two weeks and I'm not giving it up.

I cut corners in a lot of places (independent college student with just DH's fresh out of college income for now), but I will not downgrade most of my cosmetics. If they don't sell it in Sephora, I probably will not wear it. That adds up to several hundred a year on make-up. I also have a one year old blind kitty and I feed her Wellness and Halo food, which is $15-20 per five pound bag, so, not exactly cheap. But she's my baby. =)

I will not compromise on the following: Coffee, perfume, and shoes and handbags. I buy one brand of German coffee, use two scents, one for winter(Guerlain L'heure Bleue) and one for summer(Lalique). I also only buy handmade in Italy/France handbags and shoes. I buy one pair of shoes and one bag a year. I have a budget of 300-500 Euros for each. If I get it on sale the budget does not carry over, this years shoes were on sale at my favorite shop for 49 Euros, and yes they are handmade in Italy. Other than that everything else is up for grabs! I also live in Europe and have access to my favorites at much better prices than in the states. Actually most of my shoes and bags are from the european collections and were never even sold in the states.

I absolutly will no do without my weekly date nights. We can go cheap when we need to but never skip it all together. It is the thing that gets me though the week sometimes (usually the stress stems from a teen, tween and pre-tween DD and all in a 1 bathroom house.) And I feel it is more of an investment then just money spent.

Life is way too short to not have things that make you happy. Balance..it is the key!

These are my extra's that I would hate to give up:

Dish Network- 14 years as a subscriber - 2 dvrs in house, HD package -we spend over $100 a month

Cell phone - had one since 1997- currently spend $50 a month

Internet at home - had since 2000- spend $40 a month for high speed connection

My daily soda - I buy 2 liters on sale or generic in the can but spend $10 a month on them

Our yearly Disney trips- $2000 - $3000 depending on package and airfare

Count me in on the Starbucks addict list.... Peppermint Mochas are like "christmas in a cup!"

Was a bit grumpy this morning (come on, I hadn't had my coffee yet), and when DH said "wow, I didn't realize they were so expensive" when we pulled up to the drive thru I said, "yep, uh huh, grande please." :surfweb:

Also couldn't give up: Cable television (I need my relaxation time before bed), and Disney vacations (however frequently or infrequently we can go).

And the DIS of course! :grouphug:

ETA: I could NOT live without makeup and skincare. I would prefer not to ever give up my Chanel, Dior and Clarins, but if I had to I would. But no make-up? Yikes!

ohhh......I hate to admit this but....... dishnetwork dvr box (sigh) there. my guilty pleasure. I LOVE dvr'ing what I want to watch, and then watching when I want to! I NEVER watch live tv anymore...and it's the one thing I'll pay extra for! it's the onloy reason we have the service at all, since none of us care about cable type channels....sigh.:lmao:
I know...we spend probably 400.00 per year for this,but I love it!
oh...and I love traveling.....it costs money,I know, but I love experiencing things....... but other than that I'm cheap as dirt!:rotfl2:

How many TVs do you have hooked up total?

I have Directv, 3 DVRs and HD and pay $75/month with tax. That is after I haggled a $20/mo. discount, but even at $95/mo it is with 3 DVRs.

I have the Total CHoice plus package, around 250 channels.

Just curious why Dish is higher or if you are getting something you aren't mentioning.

I rarely drink the frozen or iced coffees and prefer the hot, but that is a handy dandy little machine! I wonder how well it crushes the ice? I hate chunks of ice in the drinks. Picky I know......plus, is this just a strong coffee or an actual espresso shot in there?

Santa is bringing me the Mr. Coffee Frap machine . I stopped my Starbucks habit and now I can indulge at home and control what is in it !

2 DVRs in my house. One in the LR and one in the BR. It saves me so much time being able to FF commercials that I can justify the expense from a time value standpoint.

We have two DVRs as well. One for my and DH in the den, and one for our kids in the family room. Pathetic, I know.

Then I am more pathetic. I have 3 DVRs and would like a 4th in the kitchen/sunroom.

We have one in the basement media room, one in the master bedroom and one in the 2nd floor den.

I hate live TV and since you only pay $6/mo for DVR service, no matter how many you have hooked up, you may as well have all of your boxes as DVRs.

I don't consider it pathetic though.
