That's 19.50 a week
That's 1014 a year
and if I live to be 70.....
I will have spent 40,560 dollars on coffee

for now... I'm doing it anyway

I will not give up the following: Hellman's Mayo, Quilted Northern bath tissue, Kona coffee (have a friend who lives in Hawaii and comes home several times a year) and Godiva chocolate (drooling now!) Although to be honest I only eat the chocolate two or three times per year.

I fully believe that you have to spoil yourself every now and then

Traveling. I spend a fortune on it. That said, it's the reason I work as much overtime as I do and I have no intention on giving it up. I don't want to get older and wish I'd seen all the places I'd never been....and now can't because of health problems.

HD cable tv. An extra five dollars per month vs a regular cable box. Sixty dollars a year. And if I live to be seventy I will have spent twelve hundred dollars. Lets face it. Im older than you. And while I can afford to spend more money, I cant afford the fat and calories in a daily starbucks fix.

2 DVRs in my house. One in the LR and one in the BR. It saves me so much time being able to FF commercials that I can justify the expense from a time value standpoint.

WDW trips (not gonna put that here- to embarassing)

but to balance out my bad spending karma-
I switched from Become (a $27-$48 dollar per bottle face product company) to Yes to Tomatoes/carrots/cucumbers (a $5-12 dollar one)
started eating more meals at home and have switched from Moderate & Deluxe to Value for all future WDW trips.

not too bad after you use nonfat milk! I don't drink them but I just went on the Starbucks site to look

I see it this way - going out to one movie costs DH & I about $40 these days (assuming we don't also have dinner and aren't paying a sitter), and that's only 2-3 hours of entertainment. For $30/month, we each have our own Warcraft account and get maybe 30-40 hours a month of entertainment for the price. So its a bargain, right?

I buy the Buffy the Vampire Slayer "Season 8" comics. It's only $3 once a month, but I won't give it up because what's the point of only having 1/2 a series, lol.

LOL! Our toons are like family - our mains even exchange christmas presents. I have a collection of screenshots when they hit milestones (80, flying mount, epic gear etc). Between my husband and I we have about 15 toons (5 at 80) on our shared account so we definitely get our money's worth. I'll be so depressed when the servers finally go down. Counting down till Cataclysm...

I did learn to make my own lattes and bought a machine for $350, but it has saved me much more than that over the last 8 years. I also like the taste of my own better as I have learned to make them the way I like them.

Santa is bringing me the Mr. Coffee Frap machine . I stopped my Starbucks habit and now I can indulge at home and control what is in it !

I love how one of the 1st things money saving articles, books, etc. tell people to cut out is their daily Starbucks coffee. I guess they are figuring -small steps add up- but... They are a good company that treats their workers well. How about telling people to give up factory farmed meat a couple of days a week or something like that?

I agree with you, although I understand why the articles target the daily Starbucks coffee as something to give up to save money. I think Starbucks has become sort of synonymous with "luxury" or "excess" - let's face it, it is pretty pricey for some coffee, milk, & flavored syrup - so its an easy thing to say, "Oh, give up that overpriced coffee & you'll save $xyz per year!"

Also, better quality meat costs more. And telling people to give up their meat altogether would be a sacrilege in the good ol' US of A.

Eating out. No matter how often we say we'll stop, we still keep eating out anyway. So I've budgeted it in, even though we are trying to pay down debt and get some more savings established. If we are unable/unwilling to quit, I may as well accept it and learn to work our finances around it!
